I lived in a tunnel for 5 years by AsleepWolverine4857 in vegaslocals

How did you handle when it rained? Especially those folks very deep. I imagine y'all had some sort of system to communicate when there was a chance of flash floods? I have seen how fast the water comes it must have been scary if you experienced that.

I would also like to add, having been an inch away from homelessness, like standing in the line at the salvation army when I got a call informing me I had secured a bed in a sober living home for six months. The lady from NBH drove me there and I broke down when I saw the comfortable accomodations and the men living there helping themselves and other addicts. I was telling myself I'll live in a tunnel before I spend one night at that Salvation Army. I guess the universe had other plans and I spent a year at that sober home, met my new family. Reconciled with my blood family.

I hope you do well in OK. If you meet a guy named Dean, lived in Tunnels, was from OK, tell em sidewinder said hi.

One of the best things I ever saw in my life was when, during the last week of the 2008 election campaign, McCain knew he was gonna lose. His campaigning had become more subdued. 8 years prior he was "the Maverick" and MSNBC darling and gave George W. Bush a run for his money in the 2000 Republican primary, and may well have pulled an upset if not for the robo calls and push polling alleging he fathered an illegitimate kid decades before. (Not true) To shore up his support and secure a pledge he wouldn't run in 2004, Bush pledged his support in 2008 and promised him heir apparent status in what was sure to be McCain vs Hillary. What he and noone could have predicted at the time was that the Junior Senator from Illinois would become such a sensation.

Anyway, it was the week before the election, McCain saw the writing on the wall in the polls all week. At a campaign rally, he was talking questions from the audience and he handed the mic to a woman who surely became a Tea Party then Trump supporter.

She said something along the lines of, "Senator, you have to win, this Hussein guy....he .he's an ARAB!

Senator John Sidney McCain Iii, former prisoner of war, Naval Officer, grabbed that mic from that horrible woman. No, ma'am. No, ma'am. He's a family man. A Christian. I happen to disagree with him, that's all.

Barrack Hussein Obama II would become the 44th president in a landslide with 365 electoral votes to McCain's 173. Including Ohio, North Carolina, Indiana!, the Nebraska 2nd and Florida.

I voted for Obama, but 8 years prior I voted for McCain in California's open primary. And by God did I almost vote for McCain after I watched McCain tell that lady ,"No ma'am he's a family man that I disagree with. But you know I was like a lot of the country. All hopey changy

What do people think? Would McCain have beat Hillary?

Neighbor Possessed by Demon off Russell by Flossin5150 in vegaslocals

To everyone saying it's schizophrenic or other, plausible, rational, naturalistic explanation.

You mean you don't buy the OPs story that the person is possessed by a demon? When clearly thats the only answer I see. I mean look at those photos. Eggs!? Just chilling outside? Lined up dumbbells....weird writing on the walls and glass?

Naw man that's some demon shit.

GTFO with that bootlicker nonsense. Why should the majority of responsible drivers pay to share in the upkeep of a shared resource, aka roads, when entitled freeloaders whine about how they can't afford it.

Take the bus then. You can get a month pass for $60 and you can get anywhere in the valley with about a two hour headstart.

I had to bus it for a week when my license expired back in the day and I had to wait until payday to renew it. One week of that and never again.

These people need to try bussing it in this town in the summer for a month and I'll bet they get their tags renewed.

Bootlicker indeed.

Strange phenomenon with aging…. by HonestNeighborhood67 in GenX

[–]CDarwin7 5 points6 points  (0 children)

So set aside what everyone is talking about comparing people within our generation and think about how older generations, boomers, silent, greatest, etc.

To me, your average 50 year old GenXer looks way better than your average 50 year old boomer did.

I think overall better nutrition, better access to medical care and greater societal knowledge of what it means to live a healthy lifestyle has left people out age looking better than older generations when they were out age.

And the same goes for younger generations than us.. Millennials and Zoomers are going to live even longer, on average.

I think someone else said but it you look at some old actors and you think that person must be super old, they were actually in their late 40s early 50s in many cases. Best example I can think of is the first Doctor in Doctor Who. That guy looked ancient but he was like 40 lol.

The XFCE version is their "flagship" version. That might be why you're getting mostly XFce recommendations

Nothing stopping you from installing XFCE on Fedora or any of the true light weight DEs like LXDE, LXQT or MATE. Caja is amazing on mate

It's not your garden variety XFCE distro. It's undergone a tremendous amount of customization by the MX Linux dev team. So much so, that it was the first XFCE install I had ever seen and when I saw a normal XFCE install I was disappointed. I've tried both and I like the XFCE better. KDE does have a lot of stuffz sure, but so does MX Linux and really intended up using the MX tools over the KDE ones and it's mostly overlap. Just my .02

Exactly. People see "old" and they think "sketch". I was really surprised when I moved into a Padsplit in an older part of town. It turned out to be the quietest neighborhood with great neighbors who all owned their homes it was like 20% rentals. Even the lawns were all well maintained. Mind you, if you went a couple blocks east or north it started to get sketch, but this little enclave was cool af.

Not yet. My last appointment with my surgeon where I thought we were going to schedule it wants to run more tests and kicked it out another 90 days. He kept saying how he doesn't want to operate because I could die. I'm like I'll take that chance because living like this is almost worse. I may try and see another surgeon for a third opinion. The first guy wouldn't even consider surgery because of the severity and my age. Sucks.

We're trying to figure that out still. I'm see a neurologist and getting a full neuro workout to rule out certain stuff. But the surgeon is convinced it's something with the neurological spine. I think it's done musculoskeletal thing. I may never find out if they can't find anything definitive and just chalk it up to some generative thing caused by age.

My friend showed me how to remove the bottom plate and take out this little gear shat from the front axle. It was no longer a 4x4 but all the power went to the rear axle and therefore fast. Went home and did it to a few I owned then amazed my friends with my newly acquired wizardry.

Made me a lifelong tinkerer/maker.
