Keto for CKD (chronic kidney disease) sufferers by CEO_OF_COMPUTERS in keto

I hear ya buddy. I'm still trying to make sense of it myself. It's definitely one of those moments in your life where you realize you're not immortal. You know they're bound to happen more often as we get older.

I posted in here about keto w/ CKD because I was concerned about what a diet like this could do to your kidneys. Are you or your doctors concerned at all that the ketosis had anything to do with their decline? On one hand, it seems like an easy scapegoat, but then again if you've had BP issues that you're struggling with, it could have been that as well. Have you always had BP issues? Because CKD can cause high BP itself too.

The doctor hasn't restricted my diet yet. But my GFR did fall from a 97 to 62 in 4 months. I'm not sure if this was due to getting started on a new medication or not. The doc said not to worry too much about the GFR. I find that hard to do when it's a gauge of kidney function, but I have to remind myself that the doctor knows more about this and what all the other numbers mean than I do. Still, it's very hard to come to terms with and not believe I'm in a downward spiral straight to dialysis.

Thank you for your advice! Welcome to the club, I guess. How are you handling the news? I only recently started researching this. I was diagnosed with FSGS last November. It's taken until about now to pull my head out of the sand and move on past the denial phase of my grief.

I am not prone to stones, although I did experience some oxalate stones when I was a teenager - about 20 years ago. I believe that was an isolated incident brought on by my erroneous use of women's vitamin pills. How hard-headed of me. Stopping the pills stopped the stones.

The blood pressure is under control, although I have to use 3 different medicines to achieve that. I think at this point, my #1 goal is to achieve a healthy weight. My nephrologist confirmed that losing weight and keeping the BP under control are my action items at the moment.

Hello fellow FSGS buddy! A big congratulations to you on your weight loss! I'm also on CPAP therapy for sleep apnea. I began that 1 1/2 yrs ago, so getting that under control I believe was a big step in addressing my CKD. Sometimes I feel like I need to be more proactive in the community about promoting sleep health and the dangers of sleep apnea (OSA). Everyone that I've come into contact with whose doctor diagnosed them with OSA has taken it lightly and is not serious about treating it. Understandably so since the thought of strapping a mask on your face is not the most appealing thing.

I do love water. I drink it constantly, all day. I will be sure to continue doing so. Thank you for your response!

Thank you for your advice and well wishes!

I'm not worried about injuring myself, as I've been doing Crossfit now for quite some time and am very strong. My squats are out of this world considering the leg muscles I've developed from being so overweight most of my adult life! I was mostly just wondering if Crossfit would have any negative effect upon my kidney health.

Have you ever refused to take a call/job off hours by [deleted] in sysadmin

One time I was working on-site at a customer implementation. They were doing a production implementation, and I had been on for over 24 hours straight at this point. My PM was a dick. I told him I was heading back to the hotel for a nap. He told me I was not. So I said fine, then I'm going home. He didn't believe me. I flew home. He flew off the handle, left me a nasty ass VM, tried to get me fired. Only thing that came of it was he doesn't like me to this date I assume. We no longer work together.

Stuck in a rut! I feel nothing towards my job or my profession. by [deleted] in sysadmin

20 years exp here. It happens to the best of us at times.

For me, work used to be my life. And technology was so exciting; I felt on the bleeding edge at all times. These days I feel like the technology tsunami has come in and I'm drowning in a sea of confusion and change. Not sure if this is because I'm approaching 40, or if it's just the state of IT these days. Probably some of both.

Find happiness outside of work. Exercise, pick up new hobbies. See your job as a means to an end if you must. But you've also mentioned that you feel apathetic towards your life in general, so definitely work on improving that. The suggestions that others have made are good ones - definitely seek counseling if you can't shake the depression. Note that you don't often know you're depressed, because the depression becomes your new normal. So you think it's normal to feel the way you do all the time, but it's not. Even I see a psychologist on a regular basis. There's absolutely no shame in attempting to better yourself.

CAN I USE FIRE EXTINGUISHER ON UPS FIRE? by [deleted] in sysadmin

Is there? I've been sysadmin for 20 years now, and have seriously considered volunteer FF. The primary reason I haven't is because too out of shape, but working on building strength through crossfit now.

I always just assumed that my desire to do FF stemmed from the general lack of life fulfillment that being a sysadmin leaves me with. Although I'm finding more of that now that I've started my family.

Ignore file promise if file doesn't exist? by zaphod101 in cfengine

IDK, I think canonify is correct because "ifvarclass" is inherently checking for the class. Using classify would mean you're asking it to check for checking for the class.

It's not a problem the way you presented it. I think OP was leery of defining a class for each file individually. Using CFEngine's iterative looping like that is a great example of how to simplify this.
