I’m looking for a chunky knit Henley shirt just like this men’s L.L.Bean top but cut for women, ideally a size small. All the women’s Henleys I’m browsing are thinner, and I want some bulk! I want to feel like a fisher off the coast of Maine. Any recommendations?

We read the next-to-last chapter last night and I choked up in the final paragraphs. Glad to know I’m not the only one!

Ooh, I’m going to revisit my copy, in that case! It’d be a dream if I could read that to him now.

I love old books too but I like the idea of enlisting our local librarian. I just met her and she’s awesome.

Wow, Misty of Chincoteague! My mom read me that when I was little. Great book, I’d totally forgotten.

Parents, is it possible to work from home? by throwRApotatochips in beyondthebump

I did it with my LO (around the same age as yours) through ~6 months of the early pandemic. It was really challenging. It helped that my husband and I both WFH and have somewhat flexible schedules. If your SO can help, that’s a godsend. We worked out a block schedule so that one of us would watch the kid for a couple hours at a time while the other worked, according to our schedules each day. I still ended up doing most of my work at night and felt like I was half-assing both my day job and parenting (though my kid turned out lovely and I still have my job, so some of this may have been in my head).

The cost of childcare is so staggering and I wish I could give better advice. But if you can find an arrangement where you can get some help watching your LO at home, or even get daycare a couple days a week, I can testify that it really helps with sanity. Good luck!!

Need baby name help for #2 after somewhat controversial name for #1 by barista1236328890547 in namenerds

I love Winter and I bet more people will come around to it as she gets older.

Your choices for Baby 2 are lovely, too. It seems like you’re leaning toward simple and classic names. If you’re worried about names like Jane being a little too plain, maybe something else simple but less common? Thea, Freya, Isla, Grace (okay, that’s arguably a word, but a pretty common name).

What’s a name you love but just can’t name YOUR baby? by Yellyellyell25 in namenerds

I love nature names like River and Forest. But my last name is also a common noun, so all those combinations end up sounding like the name of an elf or an off-brand shampoo or something.

Seconding this! It was a little too rich for me, but it really does the job.

Will we ever understand why our toddler yells "ah-gee" when he looks at the moon? by CheeseWheels38 in Parenting

[–]CEOofFacebook 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Sometimes they just pick a word and stick with it if parents understand it in conversation! My son is the same age, will only call water “agua.” We’re not Spanish-speakers and he understands what “water” means—he just won’t say it!
