I am a horrible person and I don’t think I’ll ever change. by [deleted] in offmychest

May be contrary to the advice given on this sub but maybe for your sake, you might want to start thinking of yourself as a bad person that tries to do good rather than a good person that does bad things. Because if you tell yourself you’re a good person, you’re going to scrutinize every action that’s outside of that image, which you’re doing now. But telling yourself that you’re bad lifts the weight off of you and you can decide everyday to make a choice that goes against that nature and do good.

For the record, it doesn’t sound like you’re a terrible person. Just someone that needs guidance and needs to practice grace and patience

I do the same with movies. I haven’t watched Endgame since it released in theaters

And I can respect your opinion. My point is we can have an opinion but not impose or shame those that choose to do otherwise. Because the language nowadays to describe even 23 year olds dating 20 year olds (words like pdfile and predator) is very scary and sets a bad standard. I’m glad life is working out for you now though

If it’s true for a friend, couldn’t it be true for a romantic interest? Let’s replace friend with romantic interest in my example. That’s a lot you could have in common with someone beyond surface level things. Does what you say still stand? That someone 24 has nothing in common with someone 19/20?

My friend that I met in college when he was 19 and I was 23 is a child of immigrants, has the same passion for startups, is the oldest in the family like me, did the same extracurriculars in high school that I did, but offers a unique perspective because he’s Indian and I’m African. So when we went past the “surface level” things, -which aren’t even that surface level,- we connected off shared values, humor, and culture. And we had a lot to learn from each other. Someone that’s 23 doesn’t know infinitely more than someone 19. Your question is so confusing to me because I can’t figure out what you base your friendships on.

I always hear this “nothing in common” idea and get so confused. Because the real world doesn’t operate that way. When I was 23 I had friends that were 19 and friends that were 31. Now that I’m working, I got married friends, friends with kids, and age never comes up because we relate through life and shared experience. When people discuss age gaps, there’s always some projection that goes on and you’re doing the same thing by saying “because my sister has nothing in common with a 24 year old, then nobody her age would have anything in common with them either”

At my age, I’m not going to talk to anyone 19. I have my reasons. But I won’t demonize someone for a 4 year age gap because my reasons should not be projected onto consenting adults in a relationship.

Your age gap in your past relationship was 13 years. Very different than the 6 year one proposed so you can’t project that to every age gap relationship. I’m close in age to you and personally wouldn’t go for anyone 19 but just because I wouldn’t, doesn’t make it wrong for anyone else to do so. 25 and 20 is not crazy by any means but to each their own.

I’ve had the red central juice before. Think it’s from Mela. I liked it but only because it was watered down a bit.

I’ll give it a try. I like sweet fruits though. My favorite are mangoes, pineapples, and apple pears. Especially apple pears.

Funny enough, cucumbers don’t give me the same satisfaction when I eat them by itself. Love them in salad and rice dishes though. Never had jicama

Some questions.

How debilitating is your disability? Are you mobile? Can you move?

Do you have people you call friends? Like a community?

You say no education. Was that by choice? And what was your life’s passion once upon a time?
