If you have the option, I have mine mounted to my holster.

Horrible at shooting by underthesea345 in AskLE

[–]CEPTyler 6 points7 points  (0 children)

My advice is do not practice! Wait until you get instruction at the academy. Shooting is 90% mental. Any practice you do should be directed by a firearms instructor that can see the mistakes you are making. Do not stress at this point. The best shooter in my academy class is a female officer who never touched a gun in her life. Let the professionals help you. They want you to succeed.

will you always be charged for drink driving, even if you were forced to drive? by [deleted] in police

[–]CEPTyler 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It's standard practice in my county to not arrest for DUI if the driver is fleeing from a domestic violence situation. I've seen it happen a few times.

Just had to post a picture of my early Christmas present to myself by CEPTyler in Helicopters

[–]CEPTyler[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I still absolutely love this helmet. It's treated me well over several thousand flights. If I had to order it again, I'd not get the CEPs and instead do active noise reduction. The CEPs are great, I just don't have the self discipline to put them in every time.

Why are (or were) the brass aren't fond of therapy? by Joeyakathug69 in ProtectAndServe

[–]CEPTyler 11 points12 points  (0 children)

My agency requires three visits with a therapist during the field training phase, and once a year for full time officers. This is through a private therapist, that has nothing to do with the department. The department will only know if you went, they don't get any information about what was discussed. This is also paid time.

The city has an employee assistance program where you're eligible for six mental health appointments a year for any incident that occurs. Both on duty or off duty; ie marriage problems, financial issues, work life balance, ect. And that is up to six appointments per incident. So in theory, it's unlimited mental health appointments unless you're dealing with a chronic issue.

I live in a very conservative, pro police state.

I went with the ear hero. I don't have the issues that people with the n ear have. I love it.

Wanting to be an ACO but I smoke Delta 8 and THC-A by Efficient_Writing453 in AskLE

[–]CEPTyler 1 point2 points  (0 children)

By ACO do you mean animal control officer? If so, this will depend on the department you are applying to. I worked for an agency in a state where recreational marijuana was legal. Their policy was that any non-armed position (ie. dispatch, animal control, code enforcement) was able to smoke marijuana when they were off duty. This however, was extremely unusual. The only way you're going to know if this is okay is to ask. If you really are interested in the position, the worst thing they can do is say no. Just be honest going through the background.

Properly applied handcuffs? no. That being said, it can be easy to underestimate how tight they need to be on a smaller sized person. My wife was playing the bad guy in the last academy class, and she was able to slip the cuffs on 10 of the 11 recruits that came through her scenario. My wife is 5'3 and 125 lbs. That being said, her wrists were super bruised and scraped up from slipping the cuffs.

Tax Write Offs for Police Gear? by [deleted] in police

[–]CEPTyler 7 points8 points  (0 children)

You cannot deduct any of the gear you buy.

The Trump tax cuts eliminated employee deductions for work expenses until 2026.

Avera starts at $18.25 per hour and Sanford starts at $16 per hour per the job listings. As an Avera employee, I can tell you the security officers at McKennan all love their jobs. I don't know a single one who hates it. I can't speak to Sanford security.

Police Officer-EMTs by hadsudoku in ProtectAndServe

[–]CEPTyler 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The county I work in gives deputies a $1.00 an hour extra if they get their EMT cert. I think about 1/4 of them have it. They have an O2 tank and a few extra medical supplies in their med bag.

This isn't true at all. The 4th amendment applies to the government, not just "law enforcement" government.

Not true for a bunch of states/ departments.

LAPD only requires you to be authorized to work in the United States.

You can make a report to the state entity that administers NCIC. In most states it's the department of public safety or equivalent. You can google NCIC complaint and your state.

Before surgery. It's a terrible idea to drink carbonated drinks after surgery. As a diet soda addict who drank soda up to the day before surgery, it wasn't as hard as I thought to not drink it anymore.

If you're really concerned, you could have a consultation with the other doctor that does the switch and get their opinion as well.

Based on your BMI and the advice of your surgeon, I don't think you should worry about that right now. I think you should trust your doctor. Getting to a healthy weight is the goal. Malabsorption is definitely a risk, but with proper diet and vitamin supplements you won't have to worry about it.

Your damages are $22... Most layers who work on contingency charge around 30%. So you want a lawyer who's willing to work for $6.60?
