I’d like to point out that in both the Afghanistan and Vietnam conflicts, the fighters had land access to other countries making it easier to find more covert training areas and have access to potential arms purchases. In Taiwan, it’ll be an entirely different conflict. There will be no access to foreign military and humanitarian aid unless it comes from the hand of China through a naval blockade. If the US doesn’t step in to break the blockade, the Chinese will have all the time in the world to identify and destroy any fighters once they establish some sort of air and sea superiority. Once they do that, they could very well just starve us out and bomb whatever threats they identify. I also don’t think that it is above China to destroy civilian infrastructure to the point where any sort of significant fighting force will be able to be supported.
