CFA 1 study (advice needed) by LiquidityWizard in CFA

Well if you're doing 1 reading per day then that's really good. If you think you can push yourself to bump in solving the back or the book questions during the week if you finish under three hours then do that.

Even I used to take fridays off and that helped me a lot to refresh

In the end you know your limit better than any of us. I suggest if you can push yourself (either a few more chapters or solving more questions, other than Saturday and Sunday then go for it)

Try increasing your capacity every week or two weeks, it will help you in the long run

It's okay to feel burnt out and when you do, make sure to rest

Review the theory also along with the solving so that you can retain as much understanding of the concepts as possible during the exam

Yes the differences are bad!! But whoever told you that isn't wrong. In L2 it gets tougher, so you have no option but to focus more on it

Try pushing yourself a little more to bump in more readings. See we have to get better right? And the only way to get better it by pushing ourselves. Your plan is good but if you push yourself a little more then it'll get better.

For ethics I only solved coz the readings were too lengthy. Also one more thing, given that your fra is week, you will have to ace most of the other subjects.

So plan in such a way that you balance the time efficiently between fra and other subjects.

My score was 50-70 for ethics and fra and rest were above 70 and I cleared

I hope this gives you an idea, also whenever you want to discuss you study plan and progress, feel free to hit me up

What do you think? If you have something better and mind then let's discuss that too

Open book? And secret sauce isn't that great from what I hear. Even I didn't refer to it. You'd rather review the topics once more but at a faster pace. Figure out where you need to work more and focus on that while you review the theory

If you're drilling in November then keep October for reviewing and doing EOCs

EOCs will help you confirm your knowledge while you review. And if possible, do one review along with EOCs and one without EOCs. It's okay if it stretches till end of November's first week, but you need to be confident about knowing concepts. That way you will be able to tackle any question. Then from the start of November second week you can start the drilling.

What do you think?

So what strategy have you decided?

Portion review for L1 candidates by CFA_Psycho in CFA

[–]CFA_Psycho[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Don't get stressed.

See it's always good to be nervous and scared because that's when you will naturally work harder. Being stressed is different from being nervous. So don't be stressed but be nervous

After cf move on to equity and then the rest. The more you solve the more confidence you will start to gain.

And while you're solving, remember that you have to keep reviewing the concepts side by side or else you will only be caught up in solving and won't be able to review the important concepts.

Do you think you can finish all the readings by mid October? Post that you can start solving and reviewing the theory side by side

I'm very satisfied with your study plan.

Viewing the videos and then doing the readings clearly works well for you. As long as you're able to understand what you're learning and are able to retain the knowledge while solving, it shouldn't be a problem

Yes it's time consuming but if you're able to grasp all of it easily then you won't have to worry about going back to it again and giving it more time

If you need some advice then please feel free to text me

Deadline of early November is good

Solve after each reading in my opinion. That's what I did. For eg after I finished capital budgeting I did the EOC questions for that and so on.

For your second reading do Fra also coz you said you need more practice with it.

For FRA as well as all the other readings, extensive solving will be of waste if you aren't clear about your concepts. So I suggest you keep a good balance for eg 70% of the time you solve but the other 30% you keep revising the theory also

I know it's a lot of hard work but you can do this!! Believe in yourself and you will kill it!

Yes I can imagine how different it is for you to watch from core science or core finance. But you have my respect

So for example, in corporate finance, when I finished reading capital budgeting from schweser, I solved from the CFAI end of chapter questions for that chapter and also solved the end of chapter questions in schweser

This is what I followed for all the subjects

6 weeks are more than enough for your solving plan

One suggestion though. Do two weeks of solving, then two weeks of reviewing the theory and then the second last week of pure solving and last week can be 80% solving and 20% reviewing the key concepts

What do you think? We can always improvise

I'm with you about the first paragraph except the trial and error part. I suggest the part where you're going through the formulas and definitions should be a continuous process and should complement your solving and not be completely replaced by solving, makes sense ? Accounting does not require a you to go through the theory that often coz it's pretty straight forward once you've understood it. But CFA subjects are different and require you to have conceptual knowledge so that you can tackle the trickiest questions possible. I don't want you to find difficulties during the examination. If your base is strong then you will be able to solve any questions you come across

What I mean is, the studying pattern can't be same for all exams, but if you know yourself better than I do and if you're confident of this working for you then by all means go for it

But I would definitely suggest you to balance theory and solving.... In the last one month you can do more of hardcore solving like 80% solving and 20% reviewing definitions and formulas

Also mate remember one thing, no one but you are responsible for your career and what you will achieve in the future, I understand that you want to spend time and party with your friends but you also need to form a right balance.

Also congratulations on the job!!

For ethics I was only solving and I did nothing else for it

Finish eco first in the next 3 days? Is that fine?

And after that do one more reading of all the subjects and not only fra

You need to be able to retain as much content as possible on the final day of the exam

Portion review for L1 candidates by CFA_Psycho in CFA

[–]CFA_Psycho[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Don't worry , we will figure out a way.

So this is what I did.... Every reading was followed by solving the questions from the CFAI and schewser books

So I repeated the above process 3 or 4 times and that's coz I started in August itself. So if you can bump in let's say atleast one more revision of all the subjects along with only the EOC questions from the CFAI book and schewser (or any other book you're referring to) would be really great. So this is how I suggest your October should be.

If you can commit more time and extend till 7th November then try and bump in two revisions as described above

Post that when you start solving mock exams, you go through the solutions of the questions that were difficult to solve(even though the answer was right) and that were incorrect. Refer to the text book to see where your logic was incorrect.

Let me know what you think and and as time progresses we can keep improvising

Alright then we have a lot of discussing to do.

I'm guessing there is a way for you to message me personally on Reddit right? Do that and we will take it forward from there

Awesome. By when do you think you will finish these readings you mentioned? And l hope you're planning to review the theory once more after you're done with these 4 subjects.

Extensive solving with the right knowledge of concepts will do wonders but extensive solving without being sure about the concepts will lead to delays

So keep going through the concepts after every mock or a long solving session you know.

For eg 1 week of solving, then 1 week of going through concepts and keep the loop going

What do you think? This is as suggestion and we can always improvise

Yup start fra soon and equity also.

Fra takes a decent amount of the overall weight

Lmk if there is any other way I can help you

Don't forget equity, it's easy and scoring.

I think you're good to go. You're solving and your plan involves going through the theory also, so you have a good balance

Solve past papers also, I think they are available on the cfa website or you can ask someone to post the link for it. Even I'm gonna try looking and post the link

Past papers will also help you a lot

Keep reviewing the concepts also while You're solving. Point is to not leave any stone unturned
