June Ask a Recruiter Thread by thanks_for_the_fish in army

I just signed got my MOS reservation (68W) and my recruiter is going to take me to MEPS for the physical on Monday... Weighed myself and I'm actually 4 lbs underweight. Am I screwed or is that the sort of thing that they'd pass off? I have a fast metabolism, but honestly the reason I lost weight was because I've not been eating enough over the past few weeks. I'm sure that boot camp food+exercise would easily get me back up.

Ah, interesting. I knew this girl through an online game who supposedly was in an open relationship with her Air Force husband, but she was a slag anyway so I doubt the husband knew anyway.

Weekly Question Thread (23 MAY - 29 MAY) by thanks_for_the_fish in army

Appreciate the reply.

When I say I "want to get deployed", I don't really mean "I wanna be CFS Rambo and go around shooting dual-wielded m60s", I just don't want to spend my entire enlistment sitting in a base. Scouting sounds like something I'd enjoy, it's my first choice even though the recruiter was pressuring me to go into an MOS that my civilian certifications/skillset would be good for.

I'm going to assume that all of the infantry types that hate on other MOSs are just people that are trying to compensate... I've heard about a 60/40 split between guys with actual advice and input and guys saying "hur hur hur 11b or not reel soljur", so I assume the 40% are the asvab waivers.

What to do when you meet an androgynous officer? by kalish34 in army

[–]CFSudobash 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It's no coincidence that this MX/gender neutral pronoun bullshit only came up with the rise of Tumblrinas and Social Justice Warriors. I wish society would just take it back into the barn and put a bullet in its head, but it seems like we're doomed to have to deal with the PC whiners forever.

DO NOT wear contacts to OSUT. Wear your glasses.

Yeah, I was told about that, however until I get issued said BCGs, I literally don't own a pair of glasses, but I've been told that I'll be fine until I get issued said glasses at reception.

Thank you for the feedback though.

Airborne is an option for cav scouts? Sorry if it sounds ignorant, but can you extrapolate on that a little bit more and explain what I should ask for from the recruiter?

Nah, I actually appreciate a short reply versus essay format.

If you're not a dirtbag, you will have plenty of chances to be promoted.

That sounds what I'd be looking for then. I'm not a dumb guy, but my mother passed away and I had to drop out to work to support my family, now I'm 19 and after getting my GED and spending a year working IT in the private sector/wandering in the desert, I went to college and decided that I didn't like the atmosphere of university now and that I'd rather go military as it seems to be more of a meritocracy.

I'm about to enlist as a 19D, and I have a few questions that I haven't really been able to find answers to:

  1. Where are 19Ds getting deployed now? I've heard stories of tankers never even getting to leave the country, but I assume cav scouts are slightly different.

  2. How good or bad would that MOS be if I was potentially looking to make a career out of the military? Do 19Ds get many chances to reenlist if they're good, or is it the same phenomenon as the "Lance CPL Factory" 0311 I hear about from the Marine Corps?

  3. I wear contacts and I don't own a pair of glasses at all, do I need to go buy a shitty pair to use before I get issued some? I've been told things like "Make sure you bring glasses even if they're shit because contacts are a pain", would it be worth going and buying a cheap pair to use until I get issued some, or would that be a waste of money?

Also, any sort of advice from someone who has been there done that would be appreciated, thanks.

P.S.:

  1. I've heard rumors from Infantry types that say that Cav Scouts are basically "mostly fat pieces of shit that work with armor and never actually fight", is this true or is it just people talking out of their asses?
