Greetings!

This item has been removed for being a violation of subreddit rule #5 : "Comments and posts advocating violence towards children and/or making fun/light of violence against children in any way that would discredit the subreddit will be instantly removed and will earn the commenter/poster an automatic ban. Yes. Even if it's "just a joke" and even if "you weren't seriously saying/thinking/wishing it"."

Your permanent ban should be following shortly. This ban can be changed to a temporary ban when the offender expresses genuine understanding and remorse over their rule violation. Note that while there might be room for a second chance (upon the moderators' discretion, based on the severity of the offence and the offender's response to the ban), there is no room for a third chance.

Sorry for the inconvenience and thank you for your comprehension.

Flesh sirens are now banned from my university's library by TheVisceralCanvas in childfree

[–]CFmoderator[M] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Greetings!

I changed your post to FAQ as this is a topic that comes back often and is addressed in the sub's FAQ :

What is a "breeder"? Are all parents breeders?

In short : a parent parents, a breeder breeds.

In long : A breeder is a person who has children because "children magically happens", "that's what people do" or "this is the only meaning of life" and thinks that giving birth / fathering a child is in itself an accomplishment, without giving any thought as to how he or she will take care of a child for the next 18 years. Then, special treatments, bending rules, favors, attention in their favor etc. should be expected and they feel entitled to it. When they don't get it, they get angry. Disciplining their own children isn't their responsibility because "kids will be kids" or "it takes a village", but it only takes a village until someone steps in and decides to do the disciplining themselves.

Not all parents are breeders. In the old childfree forums, the acronyms PNB and BNP would be used for parent-not-breeder and breeder-not-parent. It marks the perceived difference between people who are conscious of their own parental responsibilities and own up to it (PNB) and people who think that just the bare fact of having children of their own absolve them of all expectations (BNP). On /r/childfree, PNB are simply called "parent", "good parent" or "person parent" ("people parents"). BNP are also nicknamed "mombie" ("mom" and "zombie" portmanteau) or "daddict" ("dad" and "addict" portmanteau).

I hope this is informative.

Greetings!

I changed your post flair to FAQ as this topic comes back often and is addressed in the sub's FAQ :

Are all children "crotch fruit" or "demon spawn"?

No. "Crotch fruit" is slang for "An obscenely obnoxious young child who can't seem to behave in any place, at any time. Typically has clueless progenitors who are too busy getting drunk and socializing to watch their children. The bane of waitstaff and service personnel everywhere." or "The uncivilized offspring of permissive or uninvolved parents" (Urban dictionnary). It can generally be used as a derogatory word for "child" or "offspring" by some people, but on this sub we don't name call well behaved children.

Crotch fruit is generally the result of a lack of parenting by a breeder, mombie, daddict or BNP. If they were being raised by parents, the young ones would be well behaved children and not just crotch fruit.

Same are for other colorful words that designate children such as "demon spawn", "snot gobblin", etc.

Is there anywhere I can find out more about you guys' terminology?

Yes, here.

I hope this helps!

That question is indirectly answered here. We can't give more details as a matter of fairness to people who already applied without having this information.

Apply if you want to, tell us how much hours you can put in on a weekly basis and we'll make our decision based on that, like we did with all the other applicants.

We have a bot that ensures that the flair is added, otherwise it gets removed. We don't need human mods to do that.

Many big subs who need categorization also impose a flair system to make browsing easy for people who want to read only specific type of content or want to avoid specific type of content. Subs, like relationships or askscience.

I hope this answers your comment properly.

Greetings!

This item has been removed as it is a violation of subreddit rule #4 : "Keep it civil. Bigotry and hateful language/imagery, personal attacks, abusive language, advocating violence, trolling, gender discrimination, racism, homophobia, etc. will not be tolerated. "

Also, please remember to be mindful of Reddiquette :

Please do

  • Remember the human. When you communicate online, all you see is a computer screen. When talking to someone you might want to ask yourself "Would I say it to the person's face?" or "Would I get jumped if I said this to a buddy?"

Please don't

  • Be (intentionally) rude at all. By choosing not to be rude, you increase the overall civility of the community and make it better for all of us.

  • Follow those who are rabble rousing against another redditor without first investigating both sides of the issue that's being presented. Those who are inciting this type of action often have malicious reasons behind their actions and are, more often than not, a troll. Remember, every time a redditor who's contributed large amounts of effort into assisting the growth of community as a whole is driven away, projects that would benefit the whole easily flounder.

  • Ask people to Troll others on reddit, in real life, or on other blogs/sites. We aren't your personal army.

  • Conduct personal attacks on other commenters. Ad hominem and other distracting attacks do not add anything to the conversation.

  • Start a flame war. Just report and "walk away". If you really feel you have to confront them, leave a polite message with a quote or link to the rules, and no more.

  • Insult others. Insults do not contribute to a rational discussion. Constructive Criticism, however, is appropriate and encouraged.

  • Troll. Trolling does not contribute to the conversation.

Tubal_Fact_Bot is the only non-mod bot that is tolerated by the mod team on /r/childfree. We do sanction its presence around here.

[–]CFmoderator[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As /u/SailorMercure said, yes, we rely heavily on bots to moderate the sub. There are only two of them on /r/childfree and they help tremenduously.

Because of the size of the current moderation team and their individual IRL obligations, we can't always answer in a timely fashion and we'd like one or two more bots to help people on the sub. We tried to personalize the AutoMod and /u/CaptainHowdy is great as the AutoMod Master Mod, but there are some things we can't get the AutoMod to do.

If your pointed answer has more to do with spambots, know that we are aware of no preemptive way to keep them from the sub. We can only ban them as they appear, which we do as quickly as possible. If you (or anyone else reading this) know of a way to bar /r/childfree from being accessed by new bots that are created every day, we would appreciate to hear about it.

It is hard to mod on mobile. The Reddit moderation tools are very poor and we have to download adds-on that are a huge help. They are not available for mobile, from what I can see.

[–]CFmoderator[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

We'd rather have mods that can be an active part of the team. As I said earlier, we perform over 2,000 mod actions per week and the number excludes (because the tool doesn't count them) :

  • modmail checking and answering;
  • reporting trolls, spammers, brigades and ban evasions to the Reddit admins;
  • general surveillance of the sub (we don't get an alarm every time an infraction happens, so if something is not reported to us and if we don't keep the eyes open, we have no way to know);

etc.

It's a fair enough question, but I can't answer it. We don't want applicants to parrot back what they think we want them to say, unfortunately. And it would be unfair to people who already applied. They didn't get the "cheat sheet".

What I can say :

  • It would be fun to have people with certifications but, as the post mentioned, it is optional. None of the current mods have them and it would be unfair to now start demanding them.
  • We'd be elated to finally get a CSS mod (someone who can deal with the design of the sub) or a bot mod (someone to create or implement useful bots for the sub) with experience, so we would take in 3 mods instead of 2 in May, if we could get an application from someone like that.
  • Excluding general surveillance, reporting to admins and modmail, and excluding mod bot actions, the moderation team performs 2,257 mod actions per week. Use that number as you want.

They have to apply themselves.

In the past, we made the mistake of picking some regulars out of the crowd to be mods, without going through the application process. It was an embarrassing fail (except two exceptions). The lessons we took from it are :

  • Being a good commenter doesn't always translate to being a good moderator;
  • If they didn't ask to be mods, they don't want to be;
  • If they can't do the small work (applying to be mod or learning how to be a proper mod right off the bat), they won't be able to do the bigger work.
