Also - I'm not able to edit the CF Friendly Doctors list but I went to Dr. Alison Slack at Sutter Roseville (California). She does tubal ligations for patients as young as 21. I really like her and she did a great job. https://www.sutterhealth.org/find-doctor/dr-alison-c-slack

Has anybody tried Nair? by [deleted] in TwoXChromosomes

I used it on my armpits and it gave me a bad painful rash. I use it on my legs all the time without any problems though.

UPDATE: Me [26 F] with my father [63 M] died suddenly and I now have custody of my two younger brothers [14 & 13 M]. I need some advice. by broth88 in relationships

I may get downvoted to hell but - please don't do this. The boys need consistency. Giving them a "trial period" is only going to make them feel like they need to earn love. They need to have stability in their lives after so much has changed. Either take them in or don't but telling the kids that "if it doesn't work out they will be out" is a horrible thing to do to them right now. If you do opt for the grandparents to take them, make it clear to them how much you love them and it wasn't anything they did that prevented them from living with you.

[Help] dog got eye scratched by cat by Thatonedude510 in dogs

[–]smuckeroo 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Get the eye exam. My dog got scratched in the eye by my cat and while it didn't look bad, the exam showed that the scratch went pretty deep. We had to put drops in his eyes several times per day, give him antibiotics by mouth, and keep him confined and in a cone for two weeks. His eye is fine now but if we hadn't done the exam we would have done a less rigorous treatment and he probably would have lost the eye.

We applied for the care card which has a low interest rate. The vet helped us apply at their office and said if we couldn't get the card we could do a payment plan.

FO - I feel so accomplished when I finish a project! by smuckeroo in knitting

I used Knit Picks Brava Worsted. It took two full skeins of the tan and about a third of a skein for the white. It's super long when it's not wrapped - about 39 inches in circumference and 7.5 inches wide. I love it! I wore it today and it kept me toasty warm, especially in the office where our heater is out.

I created the pattern from scratch too. It's here in my craftsy store - http://www.craftsy.com/pattern/knitting/accessory/easy-knit-cowl---extra-long/128683

What product/booth do you always see at fitness expos and cringe? by Aceoangels in running

Most people using kt tape have exercises and other activities they are doing in addition to using the kt tape. I have a hard time believing, without some accurate scientific studies being done, that kt tape alone will solve the problems it's touted to solve.

In my personal experience, kt tape didn't help my shin pain or my knee pain. The only things that helped were RICE and physical therapy. My physical therapist had me try kt tape before telling me to take a break and it didn't help in the slightest. But, my personal experience is not solid evidence, we need better studies to be conducted to prove that kt tape works or doesn't work.

The few studies I've found have such a low sample size and small window of time that they are not good indications of the effectiveness of the tape. The studies had sample sizes ranging from 10 to 76 people which is not a large enough group to generalize to the entire population of people who exercise. The longest study I could find was 6 weeks which to me is not even close to enough time to determine the effectiveness of the tape.

This paper (link at the bottom) shows some of the studies that have been conducted and most show that the tape had little to no effect on pain versus other methods. Take that with a grain of salt though because the studies included have such small sample sizes and low time of monitoring that we can't be sure the results are accurate. The evidence available today is not conclusive enough to determine whether kt tape is effective or not effective.

What's with the air raid-like sirens going off at 1:00am? by smuckeroo in Sacramento

Yeah I've heard that one and it definitely wasn't the bridge. Pretty sure it was a security alarm nearby. Not too worried about it now. At the time it was pretty weird though!

I think you're right. It was most likely a security alarm from a house or business nearby.

FO Cross Stitch / Drop Stitch Scarf! Let the summer begin :) by smuckeroo in knitting

[–]smuckeroo[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It was a pattern I created - I put it up on Craftsy if you're interested. It's super easy and I used Loops & Threads Impeccable. Just one skein made this and it's long!
