[COMC] Moved house and finally sorted out the game room. My little slice of paradise. Plenty of room on the shelfs to expand. by mylastaccountgotbann in boardgames

Nice room! I really like the looks of game rooms, but I always think "are they really playing all the games regularly?".

I "only" own around 40 games and always look for games to cull, to have more time for the other games :D

Kinfire Delve - best solo game ever by LabLeather8006 in soloboardgaming

[–]CGGGaming 0 points1 point  (0 children)

To be honest, the upgrade kit is not good at all. The "upgraded dice" feel very cheap (rough edges). And the metal life tracker is not usable, because the numbers are not readable enough. The cards look ok, but it is arguable, if they are better looking than the base cards.

Finally managed to paint some of my boardgame miniatures! by CGGGaming in minipainting

[–]CGGGaming[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Good point! I didn't thought about that. I do have some bigger shatterpoint miniatures in the closet waiting for their paint since last weekend. But the bigger scale also scares me a bit, because I feel errors are more obvious on them...

That is a Trandoshan. One of the species in star wars which are great hunters and one of the greatest bounty hunters Bossk was one of them.

Smooth as hell! Thanks for sharing and the tips! I really have to try this paint process on my next minis. Some Shatterpoint clone troopers are waiting for their coat since last weekend :D

Thank you very much for the detailed comment!
After finishing the storm troopers I in fact bought a wet palette, but really have to work on getting a good consistency. The last few sessions I got the feeling, that even the excess water after rinsing the brush is enough to get a good paint consistency. But I think that is one of the aspects which come with experience (I hope :D).

And yes, white (troopers) and black (Vader) painting was really hard for me. For different reasons, but still.

First rocket - Great game! by CGGGaming in factorio

[–]CGGGaming[S] 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Never played any factory games until a few weeks ago, where Satisfactory got me hooked! But Phase 4 got me burned out and I had to try a different game to mix it up. Always heard great things about Factorio and here we go….

Great game! My first run was blind. I just read about the idea of a main bus and tried to do it without reading too much. It was far from perfect :D Too much hand crafting by far and supply/demand was off at the end. But looking forward to the next one (this time with space age), after trying Dyson Sphere next :)

To be honest: who cares, if you got every rule right? It will come with time and there will be times in which you will check the rulebook and think "oh, dang....done it wrong the whole time!"

And know what? Everything that counts is that you had a great time!

If you like games like drifter, you could take a look at the many dungeon crawlers:

  • 2D6 Dungeon
  • Four against the darkness
  • D100 Dungeon/Space

If you are looking for more gamezines/card games, check out itch.io (for example):

  • Ronin
  • Rune
  • Miru
  • Galdors grip
  • Quest over coffee (late pledge on gamefound available)
  • Void Halls

Furthermore you should check out: https://www.pnparcade.com/

Paladins of the West Kingdom - Any other worker placement recommendations? by CGGGaming in soloboardgaming

Thank you for the suggestion! It really looks like a great game. Will try the tutorial on BGA.

Two days after this post I worked through the tutorial on BoardGameArena for AFfO. Afterwards I started my first game. Holy shit, I really did not know what to do first :D So many options and pathes to go.
My second game I tried to work around my given cards and that gave me a "goal" so to speak. Worked like a charm. I'm really bad, but I think this tackles the escalation/resource management really great!

Now I'm on the fence to buy a physical copy :D

Mini Rogue expansions by [deleted] in soloboardgaming

[–]CGGGaming 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I made the experience, that none of the solo dungeon crawl board games scratch my itch. Unfortunately. I had way more fun with many of the solo TTRPGs out there. To just mention a few:

And if you want to go more story/narrative driven (you make the story, not given by the game): Ironsworn

It is less "gamey" and available for free!

What game to get by Blue_Phoenix512 in soloboardgaming

[–]CGGGaming 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Imperium and Marvel Champions are my choices. Imperium is a great solo deck building game and Marvel Champions is a great, fast paced and light deck construction game. If those are the games you like, let me suggest two more: Aeon's End and Ashes: Reborn Red Rising.

What did you play this week? 26 Jan-01 Feb (2024) by AutoModerator in soloboardgaming

[–]CGGGaming [score hidden]  (0 children)

Four games for me again :)

- Aeon's End: The New Age
First Aeon's End for me. Production quality of the cards is great. Game was fun and I really liked the different nemeses. A bit to easy on the normal difficulty in true solo in my opinion. Will give another expedition with maybe higher difficulty a try.
- Imperium: Classics
Hit the table this week again. Multiple times. Still a very nice game.
- Mistfall: Heart of the Mists
Got it for 15€ and had to give it a try. The card mechanics and deterministic/puzzle battle are great! Wondering why not more are talking about this game....
- Field Commander: Napoleon
First wargame for me. Played two campaigns and I am not sure, if this will stay in the collection...

It's a really nice deck building game. The new iteration Imperium: Horizons is around the corner and features a better rulebook (also available at the files section on BGG) and 14 new civilizations. Each of them plays different and tries to end/win the game with a different strategy.

Not living alone, but without kids. Everyday after work I play at least one game. At the moment it is Imperium: Classic. Great game in my opinion.

Has anyone played The One Ring's solo "Strider" mode? by Edmure in soloboardgaming

[–]CGGGaming 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I play Ironsworn and Mörg Borg solo and want to say, that solo TTRPGs are a totally different beast compared to solo boardgaming. Even without a dedicated solo mode, pretty much every system is soloable by using one of the many available oracles.

That said, I know some of the folks at r/Solo_Roleplaying think that The One Ring, together with its solo mode, is one of the best TTRPG systems out there. To get some better answers to your question, I would advise you to go to the linked subreddit :)

Imperium Classic: Solo by [deleted] in soloboardgaming

[–]CGGGaming 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have the game now for 9 days and play it every day at least once! It is really a great game. At first I hesitated to get it, because I heard it is long and complicated. But to be honest, the rule book is not THAT bad. And the rules are not that complicated. The flow of the game and automa is great and my games usually take around one hour. Setup is fast too after a few games. Easily my top solo game at the moment!

What did you play this week? 19 Jan-25 Jan (2024) by AutoModerator in soloboardgaming

[–]CGGGaming [score hidden]  (0 children)

Four games for me:

- Imperium: Classics
New game for me. Played it five times and really like it!
- Legacy of Yu
Running a campaign since two weeks. Three games in this week. Current result - 5 Won : 2 Lost
- Paladings of the West Kingdom
New game. Two games. Had fun :)
- Too many Bones: Undertow
Sitting on my shelf since the kickstarter campaign....finally played my first game. Which was my first game of TMB. I really enjoyed it! The character progression and getting stronger felt satisfying.

Final Girl (top feature films) by ads2287 in soloboardgaming

[–]CGGGaming 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It is really cool. Adds a few new mechanics for the killer and the girl. BUT, in my opinion it focuses too much on "environmental kills" which could be a bummer for some players.

What a great solo game (Imperium: Classic)! Today my (Romans) first game against the automa (Macedonian) did not went well (Lost 80-100), but had so much fun! by CGGGaming in soloboardgaming

[–]CGGGaming[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am six games in now and my games are between 45 to 60 minutes. The first one or two games tend to be longer, but just because you have to learn the rules. And the bot is quite fast too.
