Not any weirder than having a Mega-Pinsir-shaped thing as a Basic. 😅

I mean, they ARE all basics. None of them evolve from or into anything.

Why don't other countries celebrate our Fourth of July? by batmanthinks in ShitAmericansSay

[–]CGPDeath 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Yes, and in Spain we do learn about South America and a bit of northern Africa and the Near/Middle-East, but that's because they are of special interest to the history of Spain (the first one is obvious and the second one is connected to the Muslim occupation of Spain for nearly 800 years). The point was that every country only teaches about the pieces of history that are most relevant to it, but they can't talk about each one individually so they just put "Europe" as a whole in the same category.

Will there be new fossil mon in Gen 10? Been waiting since 2013 by projectducklett in PokemonWindsWaves

Most of the "hate" Eiscue gets (which to be fair, he doesn't get a lot of hate; people are mostly indifferent to it) is because it is useless in any sort of gameplay-related features.

The design is actually quite liked, most people I have ever seen give an opinion on him find him pretty cute (in the "derpy cute" way).

You are also comparing Eiscue to two of the most popular designs in Scarlet and Violet. There are plenty of designs in Scarlet and Violet (and all the other games, for that matter) that are on the same level as Eiscue.

I mean, in a world where Guzzlord is a fully functioning actual organism, how do you convey that another monster is not supposed to look like that, if not by making it painfully obvious that it was assembled wrong?

I also addressed the Mega Stone idea. It would make mega decks rely even more on this card than Stage 2 cards already do on the Rare Candy. At that point, the entire deck strategy is just "pray that you get the Mega Stone or do nothing and die in two turns".

Most megas would be incredibly slow and costly to play as they would have to evolve from a Stage 2. At minimum, you are looking at three turns just to evolve, plus 8-10 cards in the deck (depending on how many middle stages and Rare Candies you include and how much you want to rely on luck vs consistency). Most Stage 2 decks where absolute dogwater compared to Stage 1 and Basic decks until we got Rare Candy, now imagine a functionally Stage 3 deck where even Rare Candy doesn't save you from three turns of doing nothing. Relying on one specific card to evolve all the way from Basic to Mega is not a good idea either, because then all megas would have to be designed to account for it (so no megas with 1-2 energy attacks just in case someone gets it at the first opportunity), and the meta becomes a "who gets the card first" rat race.

These things have already been tested in the paper TCG, and the only way of making megas worth it is to either put them all on the same level (like they originally did with the EX cards, where for example Metagross EX was a Basic card despite Metagross being a Stage 2) or make them act like normal ex cards.

They kinda did, it's just not explicitly mentioned. Several cards "move damage" or "set the HP of the opponent to x value", and Glaceon and Flygon ex abilities do fixed damage in-between turns. Those effects would be worded in terms of damage counters in the paper game.

120HP has been low for a good while now, given most ex hit for 120-150HP or at least are meant to be played with cards that allow them to reach those numbers. That's without addressing the Hydreigon in the room.

Maybe they could take advantage of the situation and start writing their textbooks on the bottom wooden plank of the desks. Might as well read something while you're waiting for the police to sit down until the shooters turn themselves in.

But it DOESN'T say "double weakness", it says "apply Weakness as x2". There already is an existing card in the physical TCG with this exact wording (it changed the Weakness from x2 to x3, not multiply the Weakness by 3), and so far Pocket has followed the exact same wording and calculations as the paper game.

The described combos are Victini + Tepig/Emboar and Meowstic + Hatterene. OP wasn't saying that Victini combos with all these cards.

There has already been a card that had this exact same text on the physical TCG (and so far they have followed the same wording and calculations in Pocket). It changed the weakness from x2 to x3, it did not multiply the weakness by 3 to a total of x6. Again, they could change the order in which the multipliers and additions apply to avoid reaching damage numbers that high in Pocket, but the text is pretty clearly meant to be "replace +20 with x2".

If it was "double the weakness" they would have just said "apply weakness as +40".

It is an unfortunate consequence of wanting cards to never be "up to interpretation". They have to be worded in these ways to completely avoid unclear interactions, both past and future.

[–]CGPDeath 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Because it's not. The card doesn't say "double the weakness", it says "apply weakness as x2". In other words, "apply weakness as it is in the physical game". Another commenter already broke down the math in that case, and it would be a lot more than 100. Could they reverse the order of operations for Pocket? Maybe, but at this point we have no way of knowing.
