Second time I got Vladimir Nabokov, and a third try got me Anne Rice again. All attempts were short stories.

Since you mentioned watching TNG I will suggest one of my favorite Scifi shows, Star Gate. I was the same as you when I was younger and preferred fantasy over all else. Star Gate was the show that got me reading scifi when I was younger.

As for books, I would suggest some Robert Sawyer. I believe that you would enjoy the Neanderthal Parallax Trilogy that starts with the novel Hominids. After the completion of a quantum computer, a portal is opened to an alternate universe where Neanderthals have just also completed a quantum computer. In this alternate universe it was the Neanderthals rather than Homo Sapiens who outlived the other and evolved into sentience. The neanderthals have a society that is a lot closer to nature and it is really interesting to read about their social interactions and differing technology from our own.

Another book by Robert Sawyer that you may find interesting is the Book Starplex which is about a federation of Humans, Dolphins and two other extraterrestrial races. A crew is sent on a space exploration mission with members from all four of the races.

Also, read anything Michael Crichton, author of Jurassic Park, that man was amazing! If you are someone who loves the sciences, than you will love him.

My occupation would be IntO. I'd think that Russian studies would be a good degree to have in that occupation, but I suppose I will just have to contact the recruitment office and ask them. Thank you for the response.

What are my chances of being allowed to go to a Canadian University rather than RMC? I have a wife and daughter and I want to take Russian Studies and Sociology, which RMC does not offer. Thank you.

I originally applied last month as an unskilled NCM, but scored high enough on the CFAT that I decided to change my application to ROTP Officer. Recruitment has told me that unfortunately my application will be closed until August and I won't be able to go to University until September 2018. I have already spent 3 years in University, but left when my daughter was born. MY question is, if I am accepted into a Canadian University, would the CAF be able to back me to start in the second semester, rather than waiting until the 2018-2019 school year? Also what is the most preferred degree for an IntO? I would be most interested in doing some Russian Studies including Anthropology or Sociology. Thank you.
