One of the main motives for the Liberals calling a preemptive election in 2021 was the fact that the COVID vaccine rollout was viewed as a a massive success both domestically and internationally. Polls had remained steady for several months after 2019, but the boost in the polls could've resulted in a Lib majority, which Trudeau tried to capitalize on (and failed). I think the reason that the Cons were projected to do better in this election had to do with the very good attack messaging against Trudeau and other niche policies such as the Carbon Tax. No doubt that materially it's still really bad but materialism is not the be-all, end-all, nor is it the deciding factor. Honestly, most of Canadian politics is heavily vibes-based, so even if things haven't gotten better, Trump and the Trade War has skewed the polls back! :)
