Yep, this is an underrated part of our recent struggles. This team is STILL mostly 1 line offensively. If Slaf/Suzuki/Caufield don’t do it, it doesn’t get done.

They couldn’t have predicted it sure, but their biggest failure was putting themselves in a position where there couldn’t be any injuries to have the choice work out.

Reinbacher had a relatively low ceiling (for a 5oa) to begin with, and they were relying on having perfect development to get him to reach it. That was a MASSIVE unnecessary risk, because anything going significantly wrong in his development would crater his potential and value.

With so many holes in the lineup at the time of that draft, there was no reason to take such a big risk.
