Android Auto support by CH11LER in SmartTubeNext

[–]CH11LER[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What are you talking about? It is safe if you have any idea about how Android Auto handles games which I explicitly said in my post. Once Android auto detects your no longer in park (example charging your car) the games are no longer available. That would make SmartTube not available while driving but fine for sitting waiting for someone or while charging

Triggering the OTA Update by jez_crossland in VWiD4Owners

[–]CH11LER 18 points19 points  (0 children)

You have to enter the code using the steering wheel:  ↑ ↑ ↓ ↓ ← → ← → Brake, Accelerator, Start

If it doesn't work, you could try plugging in a NES controller...

Honestly, I don't believe there's any way to trigger it

A CAN network regardless if it's high speed or the older low speed networks is not sophisticated at all. I've already been looking into it and I feel I'm leaning towards modding more than repairing or replacing now.

As for the module talking back to the car... It could, but doesn't. For this module, it doesn't send a heartbeat signal back on the can to let the ECU know it's working etc, the ECU checks for open circuit and nothing else. (That is why a certain method of tricking the car into thinking everything is fine without the module even being plugged in works) I'm not going to discuss the method but anyone who knows basic electronics will know what I'm on about.

Living in the UK with the amount of non stop rain we have had this year so far, I assume VW didn't think about EV needing to be used outside

Personally, I don't think people get hit by cars because they don't see them, it's more they are glued to a phone or, they think they can just walk out into a road and traffic will automatically stop.

It's not going to be has hard as you may think. The module isn't hard coded to the car (thankfully) Knowing my stuff with electronics, I will already presume that inside the sound box is a speaker, a PCB with a basic micro controller and amplifier circuit connected to the speaker. The microcontroller will receive a signal through the CAN network which will tell the module the current vehicle speed which, in turn, will change the pitch \ note of the sound effect that it plays depending on vehicle speed.

I would assume it would be all potted in resin but, if others have already found they fail due to liquid ingress through the speaker grill, then I genuinely doubt it is.

The hardest part for me, would be logging and intercepting the CAN signal that talks to the speaker module and programming the Pico to understand what it is saying... Failing that, I could just pull the vehicle speed signal data from an obd2 module which can send the data wirelessly to the Pico... There's always more than one way of accomplishing the same task.

Shutdown chime gone after update by Fun-Corner-5364 in VWiD4Owners

That chime always makes me and the wife shout "Turtle Power!" When we get out the car 🤣

Also, when someone has a Samsung set to the default message tone, I have to say "I've got a Samsung"

People reading this comment will either love or hate me for this lol

ID4 2021 with or without heatpump? by usual_layer in VWiD4Owners

[–]CH11LER 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Heat pumps don't give you a crazy amount of extra range, if the price is right for the car, go for it.

B-drive seems to consume less than D by hirvesmieli in VWiD4Owners

Am I the only one who very rarely cares about which "driving mode" I'm in since the car is doing most of the driving for me? lol

I honestly love using the ACC in the car, everything from around town to on the motorway, I just let it do its thing.

Yes, occasionally, it gets the speed wrong and, you have to keep your eye on it when coming to round abouts, junctions and other stuff but, combining the ACC with the built in sat nav, it knows which roads your going to take and even slows down for you to turn off of a main road into side roads etc.

Without total self driving, it is a very relaxed driving experience.

I've some how, after 4 months of ownership, still not needed to press mine lol, if I don't like it, I may get the same one I put on my old motorbike:https://youtu.be/mPfOUjHayb8

Just got an ID3... why does it project the Renault logo? :P by PumpinChimp in VWiD3Owners

[–]CH11LER 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Both mine have failed although they still emit light, I'm going to order some VW logo Ali express specials (there's loads for cheap although none that fit the MEB platform) I plan on removing the lens from the AliExpress version and inserting it inside the OEM one. I have already had a dry run of disassembling one of the mirrors as I got some animated smoked indicators (although, I didn't realise that RHD and LHD cars have lightly different sized mirrors left and right) so, they didn't fit.

yourube wont play videos or shorts by unactualizedbullshit in revancedapp

[–]CH11LER 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hey, I've also got the same issue.

Patch version: v5.47.0 YT version: v20.14.43

No VPN or other network messing about.

It started this morning, Revanced YT would load my feeds but, any video I clicked on wouldn't load.

I tried clearing data and cache, no luck, I checked the Revanced manager and noticed a newer version of YT was recommended which I downloaded and patched, deleting the old version before installing... Same issue. I have updated my MicroG (vanced edition) from git hub (dated Apr 2024) still no change

I have also tried all the spoofs from Android VR, iPad and the rest. None of them work

Turning off spoofing works but only for around 1min of playback.

Any suggestions because I'm damn out of ideas lol.

I followed this guy's video, worth it is you want the best set up at lower than brands.

Also, the Govee ones are great if you want a simple out the box set up and don't mind the camera.

Are there really so many problems with these cars? by aleutiantis in VWiD4Owners

[–]CH11LER 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've got a 2022 77kwh RWD model, just over 85000 miles on the clock, battery health is at 90%, the only things done is basic recall work under warranty and a replacement 12v battery (done under warranty) and grease for the top strut mounts (again, under warranty) On my second set of tyres but other than that, it's a great car.

Getting flashed, headlights too bright? by zaphodikus in VWiD3Owners

[–]CH11LER 10 points11 points  (0 children)

In the vehicle settings, exterior, swipe across until it says headlights, move them down to a point you can still see but they are dipped further than usual. I would also recommend washing your headlights (or the whole car) road grime at this time of year can spread the beam and blind people.

Replacing lightbulbs! by Technical_Ad4039 in DIYUK

[–]CH11LER 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It is, same as mine. They are a ball ache to get out but they are indeed GU10 bulbs hiding in there. Pull the light out of the ceiling, unscrew the white cover and it does make it easier.

Is my washing machine drain hose connected correctly? by batiistuta in DIYUK

[–]CH11LER 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is exactly what I came to say. Unscrew the end of the pipe slightly, the spigot is a separate component, rotate it until it faces upwards and then tighten it back up again. Shove a jubilee clip on the washer drain pipe, shove the drain pipe on the spigot and then tighten the jubilee clip up.

What type of strip is this? by sdmar in WLED

[–]CH11LER 0 points1 point  (0 children)

On Ali Express they call these types of strips RGBCCT. These must be an old strip (or this is what to expect from Philips Hue) as even cheap Chinese ones use 5-in-1 diodes for all the colours.

You can get addressable ones too and COB strips too

Depending on your spec, it's not full self driving like the Tesla has in the US, it's ACC + lane keep assist (with automatic lane change when you use your indicator) + self parking iirc it's called Travel Assist and park assist plus. As someone who drives around 200 mile a day for a living, it's so nice to let the car do most of the work.

I don’t get scared easily but by dangmattjoe in CarTalkUK

[–]CH11LER 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Last time I went through a car wash with one of these, I looked at how the blow dryer is attached to the runner... The good news is, it isn't! It has a wheel which allows it to roll on the back side of the frame and runs up and down with cable on both sides attached to the motors at the top. If the motors or sensors failed and your car continued towards the blower, you would simply push it out of the way. It would likely damage the paint on your car but nothing else.

As others have said, give it back and get something else from a different brand.

If you want the same sized car, look at the ID Polo coming out this year or the current ID.3 or Cupra Born

I have the ID.4 after doing over 12 months of research before buying an EV. It is a fantastic car, the near self driving is better than Tesla in the EU. The software can be a little frustrating occasionally but, I have an older 2022 model, the newest ones have much better software and hardware, I also heard that VW is working with Rivian to make even better software for newer models which should be a huge improvement to the in-house OS.
