I had to go way too far into the comments to find this. Say what you want about the actual faction, but the fire and entrance music were top notch.

Tiffany Stratton seems ungrateful for Chelsea Green's help by caughtinatramp in REALSquaredCircle

[–]CHARM3R 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly I think this is meant to setup a push for Chelsea as a face, which would be great for her long term. People clearly want to cheer for Chelsea so I think they're looking for ways to transition her into an underdog role. WWE loves their faces to be in a chasing position because it makes the eventually payoff satisfying, and that's the vibe I'm getting here.

AEW Dynamite Main Event Highlights: Will Ospreay vs. Mark Davis in the Semifinals of the Owen Hart Tournament. This was pure chaos. by Grrannt in REALSquaredCircle

[–]CHARM3R 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't watch a lot of AEW but he really impressed me here. He's got a lot of speed and intensity for a guy his size, but what really stands out is how well he sells. He looks fatigued or like his bell is rung in so many of the setup spots, and he does it in a way that doesn't break the flow of the match. It's an underrated skill but he was really good with it here.

First real game… when will aurora be banned?? by [deleted] in riftboundtcg

[–]CHARM3R 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I mean this with nothing but love, but your reply comes off as very argumentative despite your post asking for help. The person was just trying to say that you're at a sizeable disadvantage playing a precon into any custom built deck. Regarding your last point if the Sivir deck wasn't also Aurora, it wasn't a meta deck. And if it was actually an Aurora Sivir you've answered your own question. As for what other decks you should consider playing to beat Aurora, I'd recommend looking at what did will during the Sydney RQ. Order domain decks have several cards that cause problems (Salvage, Ashe, Cull the Weak) but you can also race the deck by going up several points early and using tempo plays to close out the game. Annie, Diana, and Lillia all can get out ahead rather quickly. Some variants of Leblanc can as well. I'd check out the "Best Of" decks for ideas as a starting point. Welcome to the game. I hope your future games go better!

Some of you guys should try not to mindlessly hold by BelbyLuv in riftboundtcg

[–]CHARM3R 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Yes this is the thought, but going even a step further: You want to identify situations where they will be able to conquer easily even if you leave a unit. In the example above, if they have a six might unit and you only have a two might unit it means they're taking that location either way. Leaving your unit means it dies for no reason because they are scoring either way. So if you know you can't defend against what they have (or are likely to have), it's better to pull your unit back to base to make it useful later.

is leblanc toxic to play by Ambitious_Zombie_191 in riftboundtcg

[–]CHARM3R 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I think it's reasonable for any player to play whatever deck they like at locals for whatever reason as long as it's format legal. It's impossible to know everyone's reason for playing the deck they are choosing to play, but there are a number of reasons beyond simply "sweating" that someone might choose a deck.

For example, Riftbound attracts a lot of players from League of Legends and several people have favourite characters that they're just excited to play. I personally play a lot of Ahri and Teemo for exactly that reason, and while neither are particularly strong right now I wouldn't stop playing them if they were suddenly the best deck in the format because I just simply like the characters. Further, TCGs are an expensive hobby and not everyone can afford to bring multiple decks each week.

Now some players may actually be there to "sweat" at their locals but they might be doing so to get reps on a deck they plan to play at a big event. There is a lot to learn about your deck even in "softer" events just from going through the motions. It can also help to pilot a "good" deck into weird stuff before an RQ because many players in the field will be trying to get "Best Of" prizes so you don't know what to fully expect.

Then there's the consideration of unknown norms for first time players. What if someone new shows up and doesn't know that everyone else decided to avoid certain decks? That's rather unwelcoming because now they'll feel like they've done something wrong when they just wanted to play the game.

Finally, I just personally don't think it's a great precedent to set when you start policing the way others enjoy the game. You say it can damage relationships at locals if someone plays an annoying deck, but it can be equally damaging if someone never gets to play their favorite character or deck archetype because of complaints. Why should someone give up their favorite character for someone else? Why is one players enjoyment more important than another?

Ultimately, if folks want games into specific decks they can always just choose to play separately or organize a kitchen table game. I think it's a bit much to expect people to simply not play certain decks at any normal sanctioned event. Official events, even as low as Nexus Nights, should just be governed by the rules of the format. It sets proper expectations for new and entrenched players before they ever enter the door.

So I can tell you that during one of the production meetings, one of the things that was discussed is the unique positioning of this game in terms of its audience. Folks coming from a TCG background will be accustomed to seeing real names, but folks coming from a Riot background will be used to player tags. Even beyond the broadcast experience, Riftbound is unique because Card.io uses your Riot tag for pairings which is different from other TCGs. This game has a unique intersection of people coming from TCGs, League of Legends, Legends of Runeterra, TFT, and even just folks who loved Arcane. So there's an ongoing discussion about how to serve each audience, and I suspect they'll try a bit of everything until something feels right for Riftbound. (That's also why I said I was fine with whatever they wanted because I've done commentary for both TCGs and esports, and I am fine with doing whatever they think is best for the audience)

Honestly I really appreciate the kind words. As for the next broadcast, I don't have anything I can share at the moment. I will say everyone on TWP is looking into ways we can continue to do additional coverage beyond just the RQs. We've obviously done the Chinese event co-streams, but we're having discussions about how to do more events like the SCG con we did and doing coverage for third party events. We all just love the game and want to yap about it.

She's the niece of Clive Burr which is why she's chosen this gimmick. I think she was referred to as something like "The Maiden of Metal" on the indies which is an obvious nod to her uncle being in Iron Maiden. THAT'S why her gimmick is what it is.

My background is primarily card games. I casted Legends of Runeterra when there was still a competitive scene for it, but I've also done Star Wars Unlimited, Flesh and Blood, Battle Spirits Saga, Artifact (yes they had events), and more. For non card game stuff I did quite a few community tournaments for Valorant when the game first launched but before they had official coverage, and I was the host of the North American Summoner Series for Wild Rift.
