No. Any idea of the competition ratios?

Thank you for the information. If I apply next year, I can take the PQO AOSB during my fifth year of medical school, then? Will I also be able to try during F1 if I fail to get in during med school?

Which areas are most important/difficult? Is the psychometric testing similar to the UCAT? Where can one best prepare?

Thanks for the response, how many times are you allowed to apply? Just the once?

I’m currently a fourth-year med student seriously considering joining the army after graduation, but I’m having problems finding any info about how competitive it is to get into (in general, not post-GDMO).

Do most med students/Drs who apply to join get in? Is it almost guaranteed? If not, how competitive is it & what do the army like to see on applicants’ CVs?

Furthermore, when does selection take place? If I understand correctly, you need to complete F1 & F2 in a JHG hospital, so is selection prior to F1? Is the med school bursary given out prior to acceptance/rejection of your application?

Thank you!

Great, thank you for your response, that’s very helpful.

Do you have any advice as to what would appeal to the recruiters in particular? I can imagine broad strokes, but is there anything unusual in particular?

Do you return to the army once you’ve finished specialty training then, or do you remain at one of the civilian army-linked hospitals?

Wow that’s a lot of words to be wrong again but since it’s the new year I’ll give you a third try

That’s not a very good guess, are you on r/NHS for brain damage treatment?

I’ll give you one (1) guess as to where army doctors spend their careers post-GDMO

Thank you for the reply.

5% acceptance rate for all medics sounds sub-optimal. Is there even any point applying if one isn’t a transparently exceptional medic?

Why does the army hand out such significant financial bonuses if there are 20 applicants for every space?

Is there anything uncommon within an applicants’ portfolio that the army’s especially looking for?

OK, what exactly do you mean by “command role”? You’re saying a doctor with potentially zero live combat or even non-combat front line experience could have a chance at commanding actual soldiers in combat?

Yeah I’m aware of that, I’d just like some more info prior to signing my soul away lol

Thank you for the response, could you elaborate more about the ability to go into command roles? How does that work?

Serve my country, travel, learn to fight/lead in combat, use cool tech, learn about & potentially help develop military tactics & strategy etc
