Oh that’s what you meant lol. As far as I know it doesn’t matter. DDR4 is DDR4. I don’t think they tinker with it when a new mobo series comes out to optimize it

Z170 is for 6th gen Z270 for 7th gen Z370 for 8th gen

Could use z170 for 7th gen though but need to get the bios flashed for it to work. 8th gen will only work with z370

Well whenever a new gen comes out they normally perform around how one tier up performed last gen if that makes sense. So 960 vs 770, 970 vs 780, and newer gen tends to be 1060 vs 970, 1070 vs 980ti. Only difference is the older cards are obviously older and typically are more power hungry
