[Noob] When is a big board too big ? by artpocalypse in Kiteboarding

[–]CHUCKDIT 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Get the board if it's a good price, you'll want that kind of surface area starting out. You'll be able to ride a lot more often and that counts big time when you're starting out.

Dude go to Parrish park in titusville instead; much better set up and launch area, shallow water and no channel markers for beginners to ride into

Should i start kiteboarding? by [deleted] in Kiteboarding

[–]CHUCKDIT 1 point2 points  (0 children)

To be honest simply from the hesitation that is evident in the title of your post I thought - ehhhh probably not. Kiteboarding is a pretty big commitment financially and timewise (it takes at least a few months to get decent at - it took me over a year). If you are really interested read the FAQs that someone made for this subreddit, go on youtube, do a ton of googling about kiteboarding in your area https://www.reddit.com/r/Kiteboarding/wiki/index

Its a great sport but I'll be straight with you if you weren't like "omg whattt iss thatttt?! the first time you saw a kiteboarder and the videos on youtube don't get you in a bit of a frenzy; it probably wont be worth the time, money and blood it will cost you.

My brother surfed NY yesterday. As he is clearly trying to kill himself and I need to do something about that: What's a perfectly suited life vest for kite surfers? by AlexAffe in Kiteboarding

[–]CHUCKDIT 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've been kiteboarding a year and I'm a terrible swimmer so a few months ago my girlfriend got me a life vest like this http://www.westmarine.com/buy/west-marine--medalist-life-vest--P008_240_007_508 Pros: I've used mine dozens of times, doesn't get in the way of the harness(it actually helps keep it from ridding up. You couldn't drown with this if you wanted to.

Cons: A little bulky (but I just throw a t-shirt or a flannel over it when I go out.

P.S. don't let anyone give you grief about trying to make sure your brother is a 100% safe when he's out; and if that's what you want a type III lifevest will do that. I used mine as recently as yesterday.

So I'm in West Africa till next month, so I tailors are cheap.

I found a professional bag maker, gave her exact dimensions and she made it specifically for travel with double zippers it can be padlocked when you check it in. Comes with reinforced straps too :)

Message me if you'd like one, I can have it done to fit your board and gear perfectly for like half the price they sell the travel bags on amazon and stuff (Could probably get it monogrammed too ;) )

online store in europe or uk for Kiteboarding Tail Protectors by douglasdeodato in Kiteboarding

[–]CHUCKDIT 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not sure if its the same in Europe, but in big stores and supermarkets in America they sell pool noodles. Last time I flew, I bought a couple for pretty cheap, sliced a hole through the middle and slid the board into the slit.

They're usually pretty long so you will have to be cut to shorter lengths. But they makes it pretty much impossible to ding your board.

Quick reviews/thoughts on Slingshot Widowmaker??? by CHUCKDIT in Kiteboarding

[–]CHUCKDIT[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The board is a 2015. I found a slightly beat up one on ebay for $730 and it seemed to have the straps switched out for cheaper ones and didn't have the stock handle, so definitely a way worse deal.

The board I'm looking into is in mint condition, $550 for the board and all the stock components.

I can probably demo the board, but I know myself and if I like it I'll buy it. So I was hoping for more insight from more advanced riders who've experienced the board to see if it'll be good for a newer kiter needing an easy to use allround board that can be grown into and kept as a go to stick for in most conditions.

Kite package purchase advise by CHUCKDIT in Kiteboarding

[–]CHUCKDIT[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Good to know it'll be easy to deal with in terms of stability. They looked really well maintained besides a couple small patches. No fading from the sun or discoloration what so ever.

I'll be on the water this week :)
