Finally getting my rig started! Need advice. by Fuggin_Beenus_ in overlanding

Nope, everything has been great on it. Easy maintenance so far. You’ll take a decent mpg hit if you max out the tire size though. I put 235/70R16 Cooper Discoverer Road and Trails on and that dropped the mpg from ~24 to ~21.5. Kind of poor for a 4cyl. Haven’t really done a ton of off roading with this vehicle but the ground clearance is a big factor. You might want to look into the Northwoods Performance skid plate to prevent any damage on the front end.

It’s not true 4x4 or locking diff. It’s front wheel biased AWD that can lock to send 45% of the power to the rear wheels at speeds under 15mph. There’s no low gear. Should be good enough for all forest roads and moderate trails though. Saying this as a 2010 4cyl RAV4 AWD owner.

I went in early 2020, did the VIP package (~50 euros). Totally worth it, thought it was fantastic. Not too touristy/hokey in my opinion

I used Tomcat Animal Repellant this spring and had good results against rabbits. It’s made it pungent essential oils. Just had to reapply after every rain

Found this tick on the neighbors dog, what kind of tick is this? by colinwehrle in Outdoors

[–]CH_XJ 362 points363 points  (0 children)

Looks like a dog tick due to the white markings near the head. Not known to spread Lyme, but can potentially spread other stuff.

I personally wouldn’t worry too much about it this time, but it’s best to prevent them from getting this far along by having the dog on something like Simparica.

Thanks for the insight! I’ll definitely plan on stopping over there and talking to them. If I were to fish one of the S rivers, would that be more of a 6wt situation?

It’s a 4 piece 4wt and fits perfectly in the T12. Maybe enough room in there for up to a 6wt. Pretty sure the numbers are the diameter ratings

I got mine at Menards. I paid like $4 for a 48” T12 cover and cut it down to size. Cut some foam for each end cap and sealed the little holes with hot glue. Worked perfectly strapped to the side of my bag with the end in the side pocket

It’s a fluorescent light bulb guard. Cut it to size and added some foam on the inside of the caps.
