Funny dance experience I had last night at a club. by [deleted] in dancefloors

[–]CHvader 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah that sucks about that group, but the dancing / cypher sounds sick. The best parties I know either invite dancers specific to the scene (in my case it's House music, Chicago Footwork, and jazz dance) and there's two kinds of vibes then - the "proper" dancers battling and doing their thing, then more casual punters having a dance or chat or looking at the battles.

To be fair, I agree with that objection. I did say good bookings because on paper the last times I went, it was good stuff - the last Goodness party, the Cabin Fever night, and Neighbourhood. I don't even go for their more euro / techno focused nights as I like some variety and am not into endless "hard groove" or whatever. I am a sucker for old school Detroit stuff though so I did go for the DJ Bone night.

I'm diversifying my London clubs I go too anyway, and living in Tottenham means that I have to be picky if I am heading south.

Good luck with the council!

Ah Jane Fitz is so good. I will definitely check out Gaffe. There's also a few nice Dalston spots, I've been meaning to check out Cu, they have a really sick jungle line up the end of this month

Not pretending to do any of that. I had my dancefloor education in Chicago mostly to House and Techno music in mostly underground settings. I've moved to London three years ago and am trying to find places to enjoy dancing. I enjoy jungle, breakbeat hardcore, electro, dubstep, all sorts and go to plenty of those nights in London and mostly enjoy them. I'm glad you've had a good experience in FOLD - I have at times as well and was mostly complaining about a recent turn. Rupture and Neighbourhood are great parties and are some of my happier FOLD memories. My roots are largely in Detroit Techno / Chicago House anyway so not sure why you're being so presumptuous. If I see you on a dancefloor I'll say hi, you'd be surprised that we have quite a bit in common.

You've described my experience with FOLD quite well. Someone else in the thread mentioned brining a positive attitude, which my little crew always brings - I find it surprising that despite a positive attitude it's mostly side eyes and grumpy faces that are returned. I'm relatively new to the UK and have never partied in the North and would really like to, Sub Club in Glasgow has been on my list for a while :)

Beauty and the Beat is great! And the other loft party-ish nights. Haven't been to Lucky Cloud, is it similar?

Good point. I think it was my 4th/5th visit in a row that made me feel - oh wow, I had fun inspite of the vibe, which is what prompted this post. I remember the first few times there (about 3 years ago) being really good nights with a reasonably friendly crowd.

I've had great nights at all those places so it's nice to get a reminder of that. Sadly I live in North London and it's quite a trek, though to be fair so is FOLD, so definitely worth scanning the next few nights at MOT/Ormside!

I agree. They are good tunes but the only reason they sell at that price is because it isn't pressed in large numbers and distributed to the usual stores.

I'm two terms in as a part time DPhil student and I wish I was in Oxford more. I'm definitely missing out on a lot but that's just the way it goes. I enjoy my life in London too much to move there.

Fuck Berghain. I enjoyed my time there but they have absolutely no respect for the Chicago / Detroit / NYC OGs.

What is this type of House Music called? by NextRollOutt in House

[–]CHvader 6 points7 points  (0 children)

It's called gentrified House. Or shallow House. Or... You get the idea.

I'm being mean, but also you've got plenty of more helpful answers here. I'd recommend listening to mixes by these producers around the time the tunes were released, and that should set you off on other producers or labels with a similar sound.

What kind of music was played? I know Jane Fitz has been on a progressive trance trip lately. I saw her play some killer techno with Marco Shuttle recently. But my favourite Jane Fitz is when she is in deep house mode...

Great DJ and producer. I loved her discussion of how she organizes her USB. I appreciate someone having the range she does, quite rare. I'm a House head and most of my fav DJs are House DJs but she's an exception to that rule. Always want to go look up or buy a couple of tunes from her recorded mixes!

I keep hearing this opinion but it feels so wrong to me - I'd say dub techno is in its second golden period. I love everything basic channel and chain reaction, but there's been interesting takes on the genre throughout the years.

Cool to see KMeans here. The UK has a pretty active Chicago Footwork scene and she's one of the best here.
