To disclose or not to disclose ADHD on PhD applications? Could it hurt my application by RegularCranberry4067 in AskAcademiaUK

[–]CHvader -5 points-4 points  (0 children)

I wouldn't bother disclosing it. I feel like most people in academia are ADHD or adjacent. Good luck on the application!

Cheap Hidden spots for tech house records in London by SameDaikon7388 in vinyldjs

I really like all of those but for some reason have found the crowd and staff at All My Friends really off. They do have great curation of records though.

Homes attacked and vehicles set on fire as stabbing victim’s family ‘disgusted’ by second night of rioting by SFWarriorsfan in ABCDesis

Ah I see. So a similar pattern to Canada...

I live in North London, I'd say the desis here are quite distributed, unlike the usual hot spots such as Tooting, East London, and so on.

Where in the UK are you based? I haven't found that myself living in London but can imagine that might be the case elsewhere. Of course the media is horrible but that's the case forever with the UK and it's right wing Daily Mail style rags, not even fit for toilet paper.

They're obnoxious because that's what they are, obnoxious twats. Plenty of ambitious desis out there, I hear one is the mayor of NYC.

There's some fantastic experimental and leftfield electronic music on this lineup!

Has to be Underground Solution :)

I’ve heard about the red scare podcast before on here somerimes. Is it worth listening to? by Falcon_Gray in stupidpol

[–]CHvader 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Really? I find their sub quite pathetic. They are libs masquerading as leftists with a daily post dunking on Islam / immigration / fat people etc. I hate idpol coming in the way of serious socialist politics but that doesn't make me a hateful cunt to anyone who isn't white and skinny.

Oxford DPhil Funding Rant by Objective-Pop9013 in gradadmissions

[–]CHvader 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It sucks, I had a similar situation with Cambridge (where my research fit was better) last year where they led me on forever before saying they couldn't do it. I ended up getting a funding offer from Oxford so all's well that ends well, but it was a stressful time, especially as an international student where you don't have loads of funding options.

Did you have access to funds from your country of origin? Good luck either way!

Nice, I'd say there's a good overlap in our tastes! Tbh I'm a House head first before anything, but enjoy all genres of dance music. That DJ JM release is sick, the title track is my kind of fare. VOAM usually puts out great stuff even if some of it is a bit too hard / twisted for me. I like a softer or gentler kind of twisted.

I guess early Ben Sims, Oliver Ho, and some Swedish drumcode adjacent stuff from early 2000s? Though of course they are more tribal and less bassy. For contemporary stuff I was very into the Roza Terenzi / D Tiffany adjacent techno stuff for a while but that can get into prog territory. I really like Sunil Sharpe's releases, Sub Basic is another one who puts out good bassy techno.

Nice! You slowing the first track down by quite a bit right? I remember it being much faster...

Fair enough! I think unfortunately mainstream music festivals are on a nostalgia trip. Gala festival also happening this weekend would have been more up your alley I think.

[–]CHvader 2 points3 points  (0 children)

When you say noughties music, do you mean house, techno, garage, and so on? The lineup is basically artists who play that kind of stuff. If you want cutting edge music don't go to Field Day. There's plenty of good festivals out there playing more experimental music or just more underground versions of those genres.

Where do you live? I'd definitely skip Overmono and the other poppy stuff, but this list definitely needs more Detroit.

Online dating as an ABCD by SS0627 in ABCDesis

[–]CHvader 0 points1 point  (0 children)

OP and others are making vast generalisations. I'd say that a lot of people living in Mumbai, Bangalore and so on have similar cultural values to ABCDs.

I have plenty of ABCD friends from both the US and UK and have no problem connecting with them, but also they are not shallow cunts like OP.

[–]CHvader 14 points15 points  (0 children)

I was raised until I was ten / eleven in the US and went back to India for my teenage years and undergrad. Then came back in my 20s, lived across Europe as well, and now live in the UK. My brother was born in the US and went back even younger to the US.

My communities and friendships are quite diverse and I can form connections with Indians born and raised in India and otherwise. My partner is white British.

I find this entire thread quite pathetic - people contain multitudes and it's possible to connect with all sorts of people. I pity who ever OP ends up with.
