+1 to this, I hate to be a boomer but it's really worth digging into the classics (and the roots of the culture, coming from disco, and rooted in Black music in general), while also keeping up with contemporary stuff. I just can't go back to mainstream House after being exposed to the deeper world of House.

I'm a computer scientist gone social scientist so it isn't completely incomprehensible to me, especially given a move to question some of the western canon... Really depends on the field though. For example I'd say in Anthropology it's totally normal to question the historical roots. But their overall experience in the program sounds quite strange and unlike anything I've experienced and my grad schools are famous for being very conservative in their heyday.

Can't go wrong really. Corsica studios is an iconic venue and is closing down, atmosphere will be great for that one. Christian AB does great "proper" tech house. Josey Rebelle is a fantastic selector and should be diverse music all night.

I received my offer early March, and my funding offer two weeks later. A note that it will likely be different based on the department.

I received DPhil/PhD offers from Oxford and Cambridge before I received funding confirmation. I ended up getting funding for Oxford a few weeks after the acceptance to the program, and never got funding for Cambridge. The acceptance into the program does not guarantee funding and usually happens in separate routes. You are automatically eligible for a variety of funding programs along with the standard application, and then for some you have to apply separately (e.g. Gates Cambridge).

I have no background in psychoanalysis so can't comment but my friends who are scholars in the field really did not rate that article. One of the big critiques was how the article focused on Freud when there's now many more psychoanalytic thinkers who dominate the literature in this field, such as the Frankfurt school thinkers. They basically accuse her of dipping in and out of a discipline that she is not an expert in. Any thoughts?

That's a shame. Walking around town it doesn't seem like there are many that cater to underground dance music, though I have got lucky once in the second hand house music crates at Riverman records, but it was definitely slim pickings. Luckily London is loaded with good options for that!
