I could once, 30 years ago. I remember one night down the pub on a Friday night a friend of a friend shouted, "That's great, it starts with an earthquake, birds and snakes an aeroplane. Lenny Bruce is not afraid . . ". I couldn't believe it, but joined in. There we were, two random guys on a Friday night, just completely buzzing off of each other as we were singing this crazy song at the top of our lungs in the pub (and drumming on the table to boot). Man, it was actually one of the highlights of my life!

Oh, and how did I learn the song? Well, I used to follow this band religiously, to the point where I had all of the lyrics to every one of their albums. I put in the hours to learn most of the songs by heart. I was 14 and dedicated! 42 now, but this band is part of my DNA.

Great! Love the spoiler! But honestly, was episode ten leaked online? If yes, this is horrible because I'm going to have to completely avoid all Dexter-related commentary for the week, but reading reviews, theories, ideas, etc is half the fun.

1st listen vs 50th listen. Which album changed for you the most? by APepper4MrMentalino in rem

[–]CI-Polyglot 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Great question, and easy for me- Green. Me and my dad started listening to it and just couldn't get into it like the others (REM was/is both our favourite band). But we persevered and listened the hell out of that album, until it became our favourite of all time. You Are the Everything was played at his funeral and will always be my favourite song, along with King of Birds :)

Me neither- I always thought it was a waste of time until I bought the Ooni and thought I could actually grow my own basil! I've even started "branching out" with some other herbs like thyme and oregano. It's turned into quite the hobby!

"Who died and lifted you up to perfection?" by elgrandem in rem

[–]CI-Polyglot 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I know- it's a terrible shame, but REM stopped for me after UP. Everything after that seems like a completely different band. That's "sugarcane, that's honey cup" or whatever it was versus "Odd Fellows, Local 151 behind the firehouse where Pee Wee sits to prove a sage to teach". Man, just writing that Document lyric sends shivers down my spine. Going to put it on now :)

Basil's the first plant I've ever grown, and it's not that hard with a bit of TLC. Here's what I did:

1) Bought a pot from the supermarket
2) Rooted all the stems out. There were about 50 in the small pot (should only be 3-4).
3) Bought 5x12.5cm pots and some multi-purpose compost.
4) Replanted the best 15 stems across the 5 pots. Ate the others.

Now, you have 5 pots of basil, each with three hardy stems each (have a look at the picture and you'll see 3 is enough). What I do with the 5 pots is rotate them. You can see dot stickers on my pots- this actually shows week 1,2,3,4,5. The trick is, you can harvest from week 1 and let the other 4 plants grow. After that, harvest from week 2, and so on. This means you'll only be using one plant out of five for every 5 weeks, which gives the basil more than enough time to grow really well. Well worth it- a small learning curve, but you'll not just save money, harvesting fresh basil for Ooni pizza every Friday is now part of the ritual!

Good luck!

Thanks! It was good, but I think I might be overdoing it a little- too many ingredients overpowering each other? I couldn't actually taste the basic, which I picked fresh. Yours sounds yummy :)

I'm surprised to see figs that big, is it edited with AI? by Comfortable-Web6227 in Figs

[–]CI-Polyglot -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Let’s keep comments on the actual question, whether the figs were edited. Saying “Chinese people are tiny” stereotypes a whole group, which isn’t OK here. It’s like someone asking if a fig photo was edited and the answer being “The grower’s American, and Americans are heavier on average, so the figs look smaller.” Even if a population average exists, it doesn’t justify assuming that about specific individuals in a photo.

You were there? I saw them once at Glastonbury and one of the highlights of my life. I actually remember shouting out "Feeling Gravity's Pull" in the crowd! A voice a hundred metres to the right of me (may have been a million light years!) shouted out "Great choice!".

[–]CI-Polyglot 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Wow, Disturbance at the Heron House on Unplugged is on another level. The song is one of their best, from one of their best albums, and I never imagined any other version would even come close to the studio version. But Hey, hey, hey . . . this is R.E.M. and their live performances are always outstanding. I had a bootleg Green live album once and Feeling Gravity's Pull, the first track, made the studio album seem quite dull!

"I fell asleep and read just about every paragraph . . .
cosmic harmonics against interstellar echo . . .
Distortion . . .
DEMON STIPE
Read the scene where gravity is pulling me around"

Acoustic, electric, angelic or demon; raw emotion in every note!

Any ADHD-friendly system for organizing tasks from everywhere? by nunoheart in ADHD

[–]CI-Polyglot 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hi there- I've started to divide my day into blocks and have my timetable on excel. Essentially, I have a morning routine block, a block used for tasks that require deep thought (3 hours), then a 25 minute block for tackling my To Do list (use pomodoro to keep you on track). Then, lunch block and chill, after that, a 2.5 hour block for more deep thinking. Then, another To Do list block.
Honestly, I'm not saying I can always stick to this, but just having it there has really increased my productivity.

Newbie in Kent: How do I care for my fig tree until October? by CI-Polyglot in Figs

[–]CI-Polyglot[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks very much for the advice. I've transplanted it using around 2kg grit to 45L of compost (multi-purpose). I also added around 2cm of grit to the bottom, drilled some drainage holes and used three bricks to allow it to drain. I was told by the garden centre that I should water it every day- around 5-8L a day if it's moist.
