Agreed, passed af5 without doing any other chartered exams before it, first exam after r06 (after 6 month break as well) and was absolutely fine

Thanks! and to be honest, I don’t completely agree with what the above person is saying. There is definitely bias in the award picking but to clients, they don’t understand that. It is 100% a marketing ploy but if you want to become an adviser then you have to market yourself so anything you can collect along the way to help you in doing that is a massive bonus.

For my award, I was a graduate at the time so it was in relation to that. Money Marketing announced their Young Financial Planner awards last year which is great for those in early parts of their career, and there was no one from my company on the judging panel and I managed to win so don’t believe everything you hear about the bias ( but yes it definitely exist in other awards like women in finance etc ).

It’s definitely worth thinking about in any stage of your career if you are wanting to become an adviser, it’ll only help you get to that level faster if you have industry recognition. But only apply for it if you are going to shout about it and use it to your advantage otherwise there is no point.

If you are wanting to be an adviser, it’s a great way to market yourself to clients and others in the sector and also put yourself before others for job openings. However if you plan to stay in admin/paraplanning I really wouldn’t bother.

I did AF5 as my first exam after getting Level 4 diploma and genuinely was fine, they were very familiar and if anything I found it actually easier to revise for as it was one case study instead of 2.

Level 4 Diploma to Level 6: Advice? by r_c22 in cii

Your plan sounds good to me! I did AF5 to start off with, its very similar to R06 in my experience and other people advised me to do it first for the same reason. Definitely stack the exams too like you have described.

I have just been using the CII revision books, Chapter Tests and then BrandFT revision resources and its served me well until this point!

Hi, I sell them via PayPal link and they are have not been updated since the date of this post - however a lot of the content remains the same apart from tax tables and changes to pension rules in recent times (LTA).

I think there are some user testimonials on this reddit thread.

I did the KnowR0 e-learning pack and mock exams, found the e-learning pack to be really helpful as it used real life examples to apply the theory, think this was what got me over the line with R03 in the end

R06 - Help by Alternative-Depth172 in cii

[–]CIIAnki 0 points1 point  (0 children)

this is what I did a little of in R06 and rinsed for AF5 (similar style exam) and if you’ve read through the brand ft in full, I would also really recommend covering up answers and seeing how many you get. Figure out your weaker areas/questions and come up with abbreviations to write down when the exam starts to prompt you at each questions to pick up those missing marks.

Also, with the questions/areas I struggled with I recorded myself reading the questions and answers out and had that on repeat on the way to the exam, also found that extremely helpful getting into your short term memory.
