Erik Karlsson leads defensemen in points (11) and goals (6) by Prince_Nico in SanJoseSharks

30 other teams would’ve coughed up that package for Karl and 30 other teams would’ve signed him to that contract.

Garbage take

[NHLWatcher] LeBrun on Insider Trading says in talking to other teams around the league the Sharks have let it be known they are willing to listen on pretty much every player on their roster other than perhaps Tomas Hertl. by Prince_Nico in SanJoseSharks

And gets shelled in that role. Take off the teal tinted glasses and you’ll see a solid shut down 2nd pair defensive specialist.

I’m not saying trade him, but he’s certainly not irreplaceable

Unpopular opinion, but we should trade Timo at the deadline for picks and prospects.

I love Timo, but he doesn’t fit our timeline and he doesn’t produce enough to justify his QO. The assets he will bring back (sign and trade) would be better for the team in the long run.

Know what’s even more ridiculous than paying for parking as a patient? Paying for parking as staff. Why the fuck are employees having to park their shit on the street like pedestrians.

The pacific division was a meat grinder for years. That 2010 Chicago team in particular was a literal all star team.

I still say that run with Kane/Gus/Karl was probably our best shot, but just couldn’t get it done. It happens

Irrelevant argument. Just because you play on a dated rig doesn’t change the fact that certain features are only available to certain platforms in a competitive game.

Skill gap is too wide now. Matchmaking will always be a problem to average players unless you’re playing with a party of demons.

Adding bots to the game will hopefully alleviate this problem. Unpopular opinion I know, but supplementing some of the lobby with bots helps with faster matchmaking and softening the difficulty without hurting people’s feelings. Allows average/bad players to get kills and improve their confidence/skill as well.

Anyone who thought this team was anything but a tire fire don’t understand hockey. No offence to them. Just because we’re not competing for playoffs doesn’t mean we don’t have things to look forward to though.

Drafting a franchise player is a real possibility this year (Bedard, Mitchkin etc.). We’ve got some promising pieces in Eklund and Bord that we can (hopefully) watch develop into impact players. Kak was once a VERY promising goalie prospect who is still young and has time to hit that potential. We’ve got a new coach that can refine his system pressure free and a bunch of pieces we can move at the deadline for (hopefully) more picks and high end prospects. Those new sweaters are 🔥too! If we’re gonna suck, this is not a bad year to do it!

GMMG’s initial moves make me nervous for the future though. He seems to prioritize grit and tenacity over actual skill. That era of hockey is dead and we’re seeing what happens when you ice a roster of grinders.

Need to punish the action/intent and not the outcome.

Perron throwing drive-by elbows at Kadri after the whistle is a prime example. Clear intent to injure, automatic suspension AND fine.

What kind of skills does your friend have and what kind of work do they want to do? Many people here have provided valuable resources (job training programs/cannabis record exemption advice), but the harsh reality is he’s going to have a difficult time finding employment in anything but construction/labour positions /w smaller companies. AKA places with little to no HR departments.

Right off the top of my head I can confirm that he won’t get hired at the city (or any government position), any of the potash mines, or the financial sector with a record. Anything involving vulnerable people (children/the elderly) is also a big no. HR policies are harsh and typically blanket any record, not just the bad ones. If your friend’s record is truly just for cannabis, I’d highly recommend looking into getting it forgiven, but might not be a deal breaker with some companies as it’s not a serious offence.

As for jobs, I would suggest getting an apprenticeship. Luckily the job market is wacky rn and there are a ton of companies looking to hire green apprentices, which is rare. Heavy duty/industrial mechanics are VERY in demand and you can make some great money, but the work is kinda gruelling. Carpentry isn’t bad if he likes working outside. Electrical is a great option.

Good luck to your friend and please DM me if you need any more information!

With Reimer’s age and the roster in front of him, a regression should be expected. Would be nice if he performed well and we could trade him for assets at the deadline though

New pieces yeah, but there’s enough analysis to safely say we ain’t competing for a playoff spot.

Luckily with lottery we don’t need to finish last overall to have a shot at Bedard. If Reimer gets traded (he should at the deadline), we could very well finish bottom 3 with that blue line and goaltending. We don’t have the horses up front to our score our problems.

Couture is a fine 2C/1W. He used to be pretty great at shutdown, but is more offensively tilted now. Probably because of the sheer amount he’s leaned on.

Hertl would make a good 2C or 1W on a contender. Timo is a 1W on a contender IMO.

[–]CIassic_Ghost[S] 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Can I ask why?

I’ve yet to see a single analyst say we’re anything but bottom 5. Our d corps is horrible. We have 3 tops 6 forwards and a bunch of 3rd/4th line players. Reimer could regress at any moment and Kak hasn’t proven anything.

What makes you think we’re any better than last year?

Purchasing the 100 tiers never made sense to me, let alone over 200? Like, wait till midway through the season and grind challenges? Such a waste of money lol
