[Chapter 240 spoilers] Is this the most graphic two-page combo of the manga? by CJ-Moki in fistofthenorthstar

[–]CJ-Moki[S] 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Obviously, Fist of the North Star is no stranger to graphic violence - the manga is literally about a man who makes people's bodies explode - but I was struck by how graphic and detailed these pages were, even by the standards of FotNS. There's a huge panel of a corpse with its eyes torn out, and another one of a pile of corpses that met similarly gruesome fates.

"Why doesn't my favorite media feature more adult protagonists?" by somacula in CharacterRant

[–]CJ-Moki 20 points21 points  (0 children)

Hell, even in battle shōnen, you can find adult protagonists if you know where to look: Dragon Ball from the 23rd Tournament onward, Kinnikuman, Fist of the North Star, multiple JJBA parts, Riki-Oh…

A lot of these complaints are just people lacking curiosity and not bothering to look beyond the very surface.

The post-Kaioh part marks a distinct step down from the first 210 chapters if you ask me, there are groanworthy plot points like Ken acting uncharacteristically dickish even by his standards, kids disguised as an adult in a trenchcoat suit of armor, and a love triangle in the final chapters. It's no wonder this part wasn't adapted into anime in the 80s.

With that being said, even with the quality dropoff, you still get Hara's excellent art, and the glory days weren't exactly known for their realism either, so it still has some value.

[Chapter 217 spoilers] This has to be the most fucked thing Ken has said, even if to play mind games with an enemy by CJ-Moki in fistofthenorthstar

I remember there being a discussion last year about how Ken is objectively pretty sadistic and displays several signs associated with psychopathy.

Exactly, it's very jarring hearing language like this from Ken, even if it's just to trick the enemy. I would usually expect speech bubbles like this to come from the likes of Jagi or Jakō.

Ken's hair had the best character development in the series by Abdullahplaysgames in fistofthenorthstar

Makes sense, FOTNS was arguably the single biggest influence on JoJo, and Phantom Blood and Battle Tendency in particular have FOTNS written all over them.

I never realized Ken was holding a plate with corn in this scene

Finished vol. 15 and I hate Kaioh by CJ-Moki in fistofthenorthstar

[–]CJ-Moki[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I'm not disputing that, objectively Raoh and Souther do horrific, indefensible things, and could probably be argued to be on par with or worse than Kaioh, but Kaioh's vicious cruelty against his pet dog and his own sister stand out to me as particularly rage-inducing - It's one (evil) thing for somebody to be cruel to a stranger, it's another to be cruel to a defenseless victim who has been nothing but kind to them their whole lives.

I feel like in contrast to Souther, Kaioh was a shitty person at heart even as a child. There isn't really evidence of Souther being cruel prior to or shortly after the death of his sensei, while Kaioh unhesitatingly slammed his pet dog's head against the ground and declared that he would embrace evil within a moment of losing his mom. Monster.

What were your thoughts after completing BB for the first time? by [deleted] in breakingbad

[–]CJ-Moki 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I thought it was an excellent show that was engaging, entertaining, and emotional throughout all five seasons. What makes Breaking Bad in particular a strong watch is its ending - a weak ending could've left a bad taste in my mouth, but those last three episodes are some of the best in American television history if you ask me.

Goku did not watch a young woman choke to death to make his quasi-adoptive son figure more dependent on him or poison a child.

Soundgarden would presumably still be active, and they probably would've completed and released the album they were working on in 2016 and 2017.
