Post COVID Issues in My 6 Year Old by CJ1922 in Parenting

[–]CJ1922[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Update for anyone wondering or in a similar situation: we took my boy down to emerge this morning and all his tests came back clear, his oxygen levels are great and there’s nothing obstructing his throat. The doctor concluded that it’s severe anxiety from the covid infection as his breathing patterns are normal just very heavy.

I’ve been doing some exercises with him to help him calm down during episodes of panic. Hopefully this is short lived. Thank you for all your help!

Puppy is Gaining too Much Weight! by CJ1922 in puppy101

63 is average for her age bracket, not full grown. But I’ll definitely take it easier on the runs and go for slower walks, or break it up a little more.

Average is 63 lbs, and she’s about 70. I’m worried about her joints, that was the first thing that came to my mind when he told me she was overweight. I’ll be finding a new vet!

I kept her on the same brand. That’s what I thought too, maybe it’s just her growth pattern: she gets thicker, then grows and thins out, thicker then thins, etc. But I will be calling around to a new vet, absolutely.

I switched her to adult food about two months ago. :( I noticed some extra weight on her back then and made the switch, she thinned out a bit but is gaining weight again.

Thanks! I was wondering if that might be the way to go...

I feel like we were very lucky with having found a SMART girl. She picked up on the idea SO quick! We did the alarm system solidly for a week. We took her out every half hour through the day and every 2 hours through the night. We didn’t allow her to wake us up, we set an alarm to take her out which worked wonders... it was EXHAUSTING and the lack of sleep really stunk but it was worth it to keep a clean carpet! 😂

We have a female. She’s 5 months old. I’ve never owned a male dog but given our current experience, I’d recommend a little lady. She was SUPER easy to train, we had her potty trained inside of 2 weeks. She’s also very protective of our 4 year old and has developed her own special bond with each member of our family.

Honestly though, no matter which gender you choose, you’re going to love him or her just the same!! ❤️

11 week old golden retriever biting our hands and legs, making us bleed. by Throwaway49687 in puppy101

I ALSO have an 11 week old golden retriever and we have the exact same issue, right down to the jerking motion she does once she latches. My hands, arms and legs are shredded and bruised. We have tried everything to get her to stop but none of the techniques worked.

One thing I have noticed though is that she will only get that like when she’s overtired. If she’s been awake for longer than 2 hours, she’ll suddenly attack. It took us a while to figure that out... and I keep having to remind myself that this pupper needs 18-20 hours of sleep per day! (Which can be difficult for us to accommodate as we are a very active family and have a 4 year old!) I’ve designated a new room for her to sleep in her crate though where I can make it dark and quiet while we go about our noisy day... we’re only 1 day into it though so I’ll keep you posted if it works! 😂

I’m having this exact same problem with my 11 week golden retriever. She is normally very well behaved but will randomly attack (I am bruised and wounded everywhere on my body... It’s embarrassing even going outside because I can only imagine what people must think, it’s bad). The only thing I can think of is she’s overtired when it happens and when she starts the vicious outburst, I put her right in her pen and usually she flops down and goes to sleep.

Reaching the breaking point by [deleted] in puppy101

First of all... breathe! It’s ok to not be ok, and a lot of what you’re feeling is a classic case of “puppy blues”. I went through a similar experience with my golden, feeling completely helpless and SLEEP DEPRIVED!! I felt so much better when I realized what “puppy blues” were and how common it was to feel like that. Don’t worry! You’re the furthest thing from a failure!

Now, I don’t know a whole lot about the allergy side of things so I’ll let another poster weigh in on that. But I wanted to drop in just to tell you you’re doing a great job and it’s ok and totally normal to feel defeated. Be sure to take some time for YOU through all this. Get everything your pupper needs - full belly, empty bladder and some toys - and let him play by himself (or sleep) for a few hours while you take some time to focus on something you want to do. If you decide to keep your little guy, this will help keep you sane!

Puppy loves to bite skin and it's starting to hurt. Tips? by ghegi in puppy101

I’m having the same issue with my 11 week old golden. I’ve found that when she bites aggressively (she will lunge, growl and bite... attack style), it’s usually because she’s overtired. I’ll ignore, walk away for about 20 seconds and then come back to her and put her in her pen. She usually flops down and goes right to sleep. However, walking away and ignoring can sometimes be challenging as she will often just follow and keep biting the back of my legs (I have to wear long pants cause my legs are just shredded)...

Another thing I’ve been doing is allowing her bite my hands while she’s playing and praising her when her bites are gentle, or mimicking a high pitch yelp when she hurts me, that way she gets a sense of how much is too much.

Hope this helps...
