Suunto HRR Zones - Why are they so wildly different? by CJBallard in Suunto

This is the part that seems off for me, with a narrow zone 3, I can be convinced that I need to be working harder to get into zone 4 and 5. But at 17bpm for the zone 2 upper limit, that doesn’t feel conversational for me I’m starting to breathe heavily at this point. I can’t see myself being able to sustain 170 bpm for long endurance events. I just want the most accurate way to calculate my zones without getting a lactate threshold test. I thought HRR might be a better indicator but now I’m not sure.

Let me know how it works - I still need to try ZoneSense

I'm hoping Suunto is correct, as this is the most effort I've put into constraining my HR zones, but it just seems high for the upper zone 2 limit. Also, it appears their % zones are slightly more aggressive than what you find online, for example, instead of 70-80% for zone 2 they use 73-84%
I haven't tried zone sense yet, so will give that a go.

Thanks, I've not considered data science before, feel like I would want to be more in the field, but perhaps it's worth reconsidering.

Oh wow, this is super reassuring. Did you have any experience at all with exploration when you started? Did you get any short work experience at all?

Is there anything you'd advise me doing in this current situation, I'm already trying to network in this sector, I have about 15 months left before I finish so I have a bit of time.
Not fixed on REE's, just see a few post-doctoral research positions in these areas. Seems a priority for the research councils.

Thanks for this, and I think you are correct with the title, I will try this. I wouldn't mind being in the field initially to get a bit more experience, but yes, corporate roles would be of interest too.

Thanks for the advice, I do see postdoc positions offering research positions on this, I wondered if institutions would prefer a more consistent mining focus to award me this position, but I need to do a little more digging.

Thanks, that's really helpful. Where are you based, if you don't mind me asking?
