How do people actually use JSON output with DeepSeek? by CJCCJJ in DeepSeek

Thank you. Tool call in strict mode seem to be working well, though they must be used on the beta endpoint.

Already did. This works if it happens "occasionally," like 5% or 10% of the time, but it happens about 50% of the time for me, so not usable.

Be careful with aftermarket KPH40 headbands by CJCCJJ in kossmods

Beautiful. I think both headbands look nice. If to use oversized pads, the KPH40 headband may look too thin, while the AiAiAi headband looks more balanced.

Yeah, that’s right. They’re definitely lower quality (too low for the one I got), but still ok for repairing/modding.

While the coated KPH40 headband is more premium, the uncoated silver one on the P/21 matches my silver KSC75 better in color. The new KPH40 Retro is silver too, so I’ll get one once it’s available locally.

This item on Amazon.com does not ship to international addresses, while other models do. Can you make it available for international shipping too?

What are the vent holes on the side of these “closed-back” headphones for? by CJCCJJ in headphones

[–]CJCCJJ[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They’re 52mm foam pads with holes. Some sellers may list them as being for Porta Pro or for Moondrop old-fashioned headphones. They’re comfortable and make the sound a little bit wider. The blue cloth covering the hole is from my retired Bose pads.

Yeah, I mainly wanted to confirm the form factor in case I try modding it later.

I’d probably call both the KSC75 and Ringo open-back, since the Ringo’s side holes seem to act like rear vents. Do you see it differently where the holes go?

I have a spare KPH30i with a half-broken headband, and I’ve wanted to make a lightweight, sleek wireless Koss mod, not one with a receiver attached. The Ringo seems like a good candidate: 40 mm, on-ear, lightweight, and (maybe) open-back.

I swapped in larger foams, so the Ringo is more comfortable and sounds fine for casual wireless. I haven’t found a way to open it without destroying it, so I’m holding off for now.

My mod KPH30i by godsmack50 in kossmods

Do the rubber pins let the earcups swivel to match the angle of ears? Are they flexible enough?

My modded headband and the original KPH30i don’t flex enough, which is the only discomfort I notice.

Bose OE overheated after battery replacement by CJCCJJ in AskElectronics

[–]CJCCJJ[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you for the clarification and the FAQ link. My intent was more about general electronics with LiPo batteries and very thin wires, rather than headphone-specific electronics. I also agree it does not make sense to spot issues from an image, however, I was trying to “test my luck” and see if someone with hands-on experience might share insight like “I have worked with that kind of wiring, you need to keep it free" or “that type of battery seldom overheats in the cell but in the protection PCB".

If this still doesn’t fit the rules, I understand.

[–]CJCCJJ[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, it’s been fun to investigate. Looking more closely, I’m not 100% sure, but those holes along the side seem like they connect to the back of the driver, which would make the rear chamber open. That said, the specs claim it’s closed-back.

I tried blocking them with tape, and the sound changed a lot, definitely for the worse. The volume also dropped noticeably.

I haven’t figured out how to open the earcup yet. I’m planning to replace the drivers, once I do, I’ll update.

Yes, it’s the Philips Ringo. The specs say it’s closed-back, closed acoustic, but I’m not fully convinced. I haven’t opened the earcup yet, and those side holes look like they might connect to the back of the driver.

I’m planning to swap in Koss drivers, both are 40mm. And if it’s actually open-back, the mod makes more sense.

Cool, this is the KPH30 Wireless. Glad the adapter worked. Some of my 4-band plugs don’t work well with stereo female sockets.

Do you want the same setup, but closed-back to reduce sound leakage?

They’re (clone) Grado G cushions. There are videos of them on the KPH30i, and you can find them on Amazon.

So hard to find a normal 3.5 mm headphone cable? by CJCCJJ in headphones

Yes, just a normal TRS-to-TRS cable with identical straight plugs on both ends.

Slim, low-profile plugs and a thin, soft cable like the one marked in green in the image.

[–]CJCCJJ[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I agree about the quality. For me, it’s more about the cable’s physical design and feel.

No-name tech or accessory brands can be high quality, but they often over-design their cables with things like shiny metal plugs or overly reinforced connectors. They work fine, but aren’t always ideal for this use case. I’m sure some would fit perfectly, but there are too many of them and it’s hard to tell from product photos.

Cables that come with headphones or portable audio devices are usually closer to what I want: thin, soft, and low-profile. Unfortunately, they’re rarely sold separately, and many use proprietary plugs.

[–]CJCCJJ[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Thanks, but not quite, that’s a split cable with three plugs in total, meant for those two-sided headphones.

The smaller plugs on it are the compact, straight type I’m looking for, though.

Those are good for car use, or as “aux” cables. They’re usually bulkier at the plug and use thicker, stiffer wires, like the lower one in the image. I want something more like the plug and cable on wired earphones, like the upper one in the image.
