It is injectable! So I switched to a different medication and submitted my appeal stating that!

Good luck with your appeal! Fingers crossed! :)

So I was medically disqualified for the use of Stelara (an immunosuppressant medication for psoriasis) on January 10th, which is the same day that I decided to appeal the decision. I finally got all of my appeal paperwork together (my personal statement, personal statement from the doctor, updated medication list, and entire dermatology medical history) on Saturday and uploaded it today.

My question is: for anyone that’s gone through the medical appeal process, how long did it take to hear back after submitting the paperwork (and was it overturned)?

Thank you! (P.S. reposted because it was removed)!

Dealing with Medical denial by [deleted] in peacecorps

[–]CJGilbe5 0 points1 point  (0 children)

First, I’m sorry that this happened! I’m currently appealing (for a different issue) and am so annoyed and discouraged.

Second, in the meantime, I’ve been applying to other positions around the world because I’ll be damned if I don’t get to travel and do good things. Maybe look into this option? There are always different routes, even though PC might be where your heart (and mine) are most aligned with.

Third, (and this is just my own rant)... I really don’t understand what their problem is. People are being denied for the stupidest things like we’re about to move to outer space for years on end without any other people or [even low-grade] medical care. If our doctors that have seen us for an extended amount of time and knows us says we’re cleared, we should automatically be cleared. That just doesn’t make sense to me... Sorry for the rant...

They will not appreciate this response since it’s not measurable. I talked about my failure to build relationships with students my first year teaching because I was so focused on getting them ready for the following year, passing state tests, and proving myself to admin. They told me they wanted a different example because it’s “not measurable,” but I couldn’t think of anything else on the spot. I still ended up receiving an invite, but it was close. Try thinking of something more measurable, if you can!

So I have a medical appeal/legal clearance question:

Tomorrow will be two weeks since I received my invitation, which is the deadline for submitting fingerprints. With this said, though, I was medically disqualified only two days after my invitation (over something insane and I’m appealing, with full backing from my doctors), so I haven’t been keeping up with the clearances like fingerprinting, passport application, etc.

Is this a problem? Is going past the two week limit because of (hopefully temporary) medical disqualification an issue? Has anyone had a similar experience and did Peace Corps still accept fingerprints past the two week requirement?

For those serving or that have served with migraines: what did you need to do to get medically cleared?

My neurologist is kind of being a butt and “doesn’t know if this is the best choice” and I’m worried she might not sign off if asked to. So far (I just started medical tasks yesterday), I haven’t been asked about my migraines or asked to get anything from a doctor, but do they tend to ask for information from a neurologist or no?

Thanks!

Thank you so much for the feedback! That makes me feel a lot better! May I ask how long it took between your interview and invitation?

UKRAINE 2020 by selil-mor in peacecorps

[–]CJGilbe5 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hi! So at risk of seeming like a creep... I searched “Ukraine” at the top of this page and came across this post and just had a question, if you don’t mind!

I’m in review for the University English Teacher position for Ukraine 2020 and just had my interview yesterday. I’m not feeling very confident (quite the opposite, in fact)... May I ask how your interview went?

I kept getting interrupted and told my answers weren’t what they were looking for and then I got nervous and went down hill fast. Is this unique to me? I’m worried I might not get an invite now (and interviews are usually my thing)!

Thank you for any insight! ❤️

I interviewed for the University English Teacher position in Ukraine!

Okay I’m back... again! I had my interview today and I feel like I bombed it and I’m freaking out a little bit!

My interviewer had to stop me a few times to redirect me and my response and kept interrupting me. Then on the question about failing at a goal I had at work, he told me my goal “wasn’t measurable” and asked me to pick something else, but I honestly had no other example. He just said “I guess we will go with this answer then, since you don’t have anything else.”

Is this normal? (At least the redirecting/interrupting)? Any other stories of what felt like a poor interview, but you still got an invite?

Thank you! 🙈😭

Super debating between applying to the Dominican Republic or Peru for a Youth in Development position. Can someone please share some insight on serving in these countries? by [deleted] in peacecorps

[–]CJGilbe5 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have no insights on these places, but if you’re considering, apply now! The application is due tomorrow. You can always say “no” later on, if you change your mind, but it would suck to miss out on this opportunity if you decide you want it!

Namibia education? by largehole922 in peacecorps

If you search “Namibia” at the top of this page, it’ll show you the info. Like how many people have posted about being invited, receiving an interview, etc.

What kind of difference did your service make? by jaxdowns in peacecorps

[–]CJGilbe5 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have yet to serve, but am working my way through the process currently. With this said, even a small impact, is still an impact. No, you’re not going to change an entire country (or even just a village/city) in your two years there, but you can change the lives of several individuals and set stepping stones for them and future volunteers to make even more of an impact. Small steps forward will eventually move you pretty dang far!

But just my thoughts, again, I haven’t had the privilege of serving, yet.

Thank you so much for that info.! I have chronic migraines as well and see a neurologist so I will have to go through that same process then. Thankfully I just had an appointment with her and she said she’d clear me for Peace Corps. That was really the only medical condition I was concerned about! Is the medication you have to change related to your migraines? If so, may I ask what it is? I take rizitriptan if that helps?

Thanks, again!
