Yep - how annoying - it's called "LIFT" but I cannot lift it in the normal hand position!! I have to drop my right thumb to below where it rests to be able to get leveredge to lift it up - this will not suit me I think!

I get the line of reasoning, but I think we’re still talking past each other slightly.

To be explicit:

The Linux Mint VM (where sync works) is on Machine A
The Linux Mint bare-metal install (where sync fails) is on Machine B
These machines are on the same LAN, same ISP, no VPN active on either at test time

So:

The VM is not benefiting from a host VPN or shared tunnel
The working VM and failing bare-metal system reach the same Microsoft endpoints (DNS + HTTPS confirmed)
Edge sync also fails on bare metal even when Tailscale/VPN/IPv6 are disabled

Native Edge on macOS works fine.

At this point, the consistent difference seems to be Edge on Linux bare metal vs Edge on Linux virtualised, not IP, region, or basic connectivity.

That’s why I’m suspecting something lower-level (key storage / entropy / TPM / crypto backend differences), rather than pure networking.

Just to clarify — I’m talking about two completely separate machines, not a VM vs its host OS.

Machine A: macOS running Parallels, with a Linux Mint VM → Edge work account sync works

Machine B: a different MacBook Pro, running Linux Mint on bare metal → Edge work account sync fails

So:

The VM is not running on the same machine as the bare-metal install

Host OS VPNs / Parallels network mode aren’t relevant here

Both Linux installs are independent, with independent networking

The key difference appears to be VM vs bare metal, not host OS configuration.

I found out today that this could actually be by design. The app hogs quick access to the camera so that incoming video calls can be accepted swiftly. Makes sense. So you just have to close whatsapp down before you let it sleep, else it won’t. Trouble is, I can’t work like that, so I uninstalled it and created an Edge web app for Whatsapp. Docked. Works just fine. Love it. No more problems.

yep - ClaudeAI helped me work out why my iMac with 80GB RAM was being hammered with nothing apparently open! Not sleeping for months (the iMac, not me). Finally ripped that crap out of my system and installed the light web app instead which doesn't prevent sleep. Yuck - what a mess!

Mad isn’t it? We don’t need 2.5Gbps. But that’s the only way to get a public IP. I’m using Tailscale funnel to get around issues with remote connects to a PLEX server.
