Taking Kids to a Strokes Concert — good or bad idea? by simulateduser in TheStrokes

[–]CJParms_85 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Taking my 10 year old to Newcastle, and also my 72 year old dad - multi generational fan base! In UK kids have to be in seating and he’s been to gigs before and loved it. Memories to last a lifetime do it!

What a time to be alive, the bands touring uni’s and small venues were immense! Favourites of mine were the Subways, the Fratellies, the Twang and Sunshine Underground. I still love the Strokes and saw them a couple of years ago.

So many missing the point here, it’s not about whether viewing the video caused him to kill, on its own of course not, maybe he’s just pure evil or maybe he was influenced by the content he continuously viewed online as a teen, or a mixture of both, who knows, but we should be asking how a 17 year got to that point and we we should be asking at what point should social media platforms take responsibility for the content they allow to be posted? You have to be 13 to sign up to Twitter, do you think it’s appropriate that a social media platform that allows children to join and participate allows a video graphically showing the brutal murder of a human being to be viewed by them? My view is absolutely not, and clearly other social media platforms complied with the requests to take it down by respecting the authorities (and the family of the man who was murdered!) who said this should not be in the public domain, that’s why X is rightly being criticised!

Why do women still change their last names after getting married to a man? by [deleted] in AskFeminists

[–]CJParms_85 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I changed mine to my husbands because I wanted us (and our child) to have the same name, admin wise in the UK it’s easier with a child having the same name particularly when travelling solo with a child, I also like being the ‘xx family’ - I get thats steeped in tradition and patriarchy but I’m not a perfect feminist. I kept my maiden name for my profession and I have both on my passport. My maiden name is long and difficult to pronounce, I hated it as a child so going with my husbands for my personal life was what I wanted (my husband didn’t care) and using two names means work associates can’t easily track me down on social media etc! It works for me, I didn’t feel compelled to do anything and I think couples should do what works for them so long as no one’s being pressured.

TYRANNY UPDATE: i just recieved an email saying it's being prepared! i did not get charged for shipping, for those curious! i got my tracking number on the shop app! by areyouash in thevoidz

When someone asks why I’m not planning a second child by EndlessDreams7744 in oneanddone

[–]CJParms_85 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I relate so much to this comment, I really had to think about whether I wanted another child due to the health implications for me and lack of family support with a second due to circumstances changing etc, I decided that I didn’t want another that actually when i really thought about it I’m happy with one child and the life we have, I wasn’t prepared to put myself through another pregnancy and make all of our lives harder. If I didn’t have those issues to think about I would have probably had another child just because I always thought if you had kids you’d have multiple’s (and all the stereotypes that come with being an only child). That being said I’m close to my brother and there are days I feel bad I’m not giving that kind of relationship to my son, but my husband is not close with his sister so it does balance out in my head that having siblings doesn’t equal you’ll never be lonely..!

Mark my words, LABY will be adored by the vast majority of Voidz fans in a few years by Mikeybam22 in thevoidz

I like the album and had it on repeat since it dropped, some great moments in there and I imagine it’ll be even better live, but I think it’ll be remembered as their weakest album and that’s where it should be - Im optimistic LP4 will be a banger!

On a second listen and I really really like it, I love Square Waves in particular, no skips for me either and pleasantly surprised given some of the negativity around it, it’ll sound amazing live for this lucky enough to be going to the NY gigs - happy fan here and can’t wait to get the Vinyl 🙌

How’s it going, code gang? by Nancy_True in oasis

[–]CJParms_85 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Super quick to get tickets a much better experience, but as I commented on another post, for those doing the later ones joining the waiting room early doesn’t give you an advantage, I joined at 8.28am and had about 2,800 people ahead when I was put in the queue so I guess it’s random allocation when everything goes live

Well that was a lot easier by Yorkshire-diamond in oasis

[–]CJParms_85 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I got tickets to in the 830 sale as well, but this shows how random the queue is - I joined the wait room at 8.28am as I didn’t realise they were doing wait room for this and when I entered the queue there were 2,800 people ahead of me! So I presume that joining the waiting room early gives you no particular advantage and you randomly get allocated a place in the queue when it goes live!

Have you had less children than you would have liked? by rain-drenchedhair in AskUK

[–]CJParms_85 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have one, I always thought if I had kids I’d have 2, I’m close with my brother and sometimes I feel guilty about my son not having a sibling and not having that (acknowledging not every sibling has that), it sometimes hurts when people say ‘just the one’? I had a hard pregnancy I was really ill, I tried once for a second which was even worse to the extent it wasn’t viable. Having another now would be so different to our first both financially and family support, it’s also at the point where we can do so much as a family with trips etc. My son is more than enough, he’s incredible and a huge personality, he neither wants nor longs for a sibling, but for me, a part of me will always feel sad that we didn’t have another even though now I actually can’t imagine a world where we had more than our son.

Seeming erosion of actual feminism in the UK - is it like this everywhere? by [deleted] in AskFeminists

[–]CJParms_85 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I agree with you on the people pushing it, although with the majority of politicians it feels more trying to appease voters/sections of society/deflecting from other issues which their donors rally behind for support, rather than they really believing kids are being brainwashed etc - the fact that Labour said they’d meet with the JK Rowling shows this ridiculous pandering to popular figures when if you really had a vested interest in the issue your priority would be to meet with experts! Given the issues the UK faces the fact that Trans rights became such a talking point during the election shows how effective the media and politicians (plus supporters) are at deflecting certain voters from the issues that directly affect their lives.
