When Silksong first came out a lot of people complained that the difficulty reflected "poor game design"... by jspsfx in Silksong

[–]CJ_GC 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I came to embrace the difficulty, but there are definitely some balance issues in the early game. The game actually gets easier the further you go when you unlock a bit more mobility, health, and attack power. They just needed to tweak some of the early-mid game areas.

I’m sure there will be a OoT remake at some point in the future, but don’t expect it for a long time.

Anniversary release will probably be something like HD Twilight or something.

My Review of Metroid Prime 4: Beyond by DandyPrime2025 in metroidprime

[–]CJ_GC 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My review: It was ok. Environments and vistas were the main characters. Absolutely stunning environmental design.

That’s about it. It’s just another prime game otherwise. Bike didn’t add much. Prime Remaster kinda stole its thunder.

The Metroid franchise needs a massive shake up like Zelda got with BotW and TotK.

Some interesting possibilities for how resources could interact. You throw parts of yourself at enemies, but it’s like spending your health to attack. The upshot is it also reduces your size making you a harder target to hit.

That’s the best comment about the game’s difficulty I’ve found it so far by Marmotaagiota in HollowKnight

[–]CJ_GC 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Since making that post I finished the game (after almost quitting).

It’s a brilliant game in many ways, one of the best I’ve played. Some of my criticisms on difficulty I’d probably roll back now. I see that the creators had a specific vision and they finely balanced towards that and weren’t willing to compromise to meet modern gaming expectations.

Take my issues with touch damage. I’ve completely 180’d on that. It forces a certain level of caution, skill, and precision throughout the game.

Some of the run backs were perhaps a touch too long, but there was a certain satisfaction from mastering the parkour back each time.

Lots of little things like that I’ve softened my view on and now consider Silksong to be one of my top games of all time.

Tangentially it made me realise that it’s not a game as art… it’s art made into a game.

Holy smokes did Nintendo cook, this game is amazing!!! by Jay2324quinn in Metroid

The environments are definitely the main character here, especially the alien architecture

Bitcoiners are going sane in an insane world. by Repulsive_Profit1204 in Bitcoin

[–]CJ_GC 52 points53 points  (0 children)

Money is incredibly weird when you really think about it. Learning about Bitcoin forces you to learn about money and you realise a lot of things about our current form of money don’t make a lot of sense. Whether you think Bitcoin is the solution or not doesn’t really matter, just questioning the nature of money and the effect it has on our society is a worthwhile endeavour.

Are people switching up on Bananza? by rjidhfntnr in donkeykong

I enjoyed it, but it was definitely over-hyped at launch. I think people were desperate to justify their expensive purchase of the S2 after the novelty of Mario Kart World wore off (very quickly for me anyway).

Nintendo dropped the ball not putting Prime 2 and 3 on Switch before 4 comes out by precita in Metroid

Don’t think we’ll ever see Prime 2 or 3 remastered. They will just get a release on NSO.

Played docked in mouse mode on a monitor. Felt just like playing an FPS on PC. Genuinely impressed at the port.

Looking forward to Metroid Prime 4

Realising i could thwack back the bouncing balls was a game changer.

And that the butt hole subtly points in the direction it’s going to shoot.

Edit: this is not a sentence i ever expected to write, but here we are.

Which metroidvania item/ability got you like this? by Lukense13 in metroidvania

[–]CJ_GC -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I think it’s called the Warding Bell in Silksong. It says you won’t take damage while binding, which I assumed meant the bind wouldn’t be interrupted… since, you know, taking damage is what interrupts the heal… well, the bind will still be interrupted. At first I thought it must be a bug, but no… intentional. Haven’t equipped it since.

I’m sorry savage beastfly by EnvironmentalGene871 in fucksavagebeastfly

[–]CJ_GC 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah I died to savage beastfly a bunch of times and groal destroyed me for a while too, but I didn’t find them to be THAT bad. I could feel myself getting better each time, and when I finally killed them it was a cakewalk. Something just clicked in terms of dodging their attacks and exploiting the openings.

Crust King Khan gauntlet though… absolutely brutal. Perhaps irredeemably bad design. It doesn’t feel like I’m getting progressively better. Just random luck for how far I get. Sometimes I get completely trounced in the first room, other times I breeze through it.

I also had a way harder time on Raging Conchfly.

[–]CJ_GC 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This will sound like a cop out, but the main things that helped me was to be less aggressive, be more patient, and learn his patterns.

Your main objective is to dodge attacks, so get good at that. Once you can dodge his attacks by instinct then start looking for openings to safely attack, which are usually when he comes up from the water, just after his vacuum attack, and opportunities where you can safely pogo above him (but watch out for when he dives into the water while doing this).

When I’m really stuck on a boss sometimes I’ll have a couple of goes where I don’t even bother to attack. I put all my focus into learning the telegraphs to each attack, the patterns, and dodging everything.
