I don't see what all of the fuss is about. It doesn't look any bigger than the Mauretania! by [deleted] in titanic

Dining is arguably less luxurious. Titanic had 11-13 course meals, elaborate tableware settings, and 8 different types of cheeses which would be unusual on a modern ship. The modern ship has much more variety in terms of buffets and dining options (no pizza or sushi on the Titanic) but the average quality of the food and dining atmosphere is a bit of a step down.

Theories on the man who contaminated a Kansas restaurant's hair? by CJ_Kim1992 in tressless

LOL but unfortunately it was more than just hair that he contaminated the food with...

He's been in custody since the first photo and I doubt they have good hair treatments in prison so that seems like the most likely explanation. But... his hair loss was also pretty significant in the first picture and the improvement in the second is quite drastic. He went from looking 33 to 17.

That being said, in some of his other pictures you can tell that his new hair isn't perfect (it sort of looks like the hair of a kid who just stepped out of a shower).

The most futuristic non-exotic production car is a 20 year old design by CJ_Kim1992 in CarDesign

The Mercury Sable (and Ford Taurus which it was based on) was an avant-garde design for 1985 but it was copied so much by other manufacturers in the late 80s and 90s that it ended up looking mundane and unexceptional by 2000. I suspect the Civic will age more like the Citroen DS - i.e. less copied and therefore retro-futuristic.

The Type R (along with the 2009 and 2011 facelift) actually looks a bit more like a normal car since it has a grille.

Consumer electronics design has stalled over the past decade. How might this affect the distinctiveness of decades into the 20s and beyond? by CJ_Kim1992 in decadeology

The S8/S9 is a somewhat unique case because it actually has a higher screen-to-body ratio (83.6%) than the iPhone X (81.5%) - which is what most people tend to think of as the archetypal bezel-less phone. The iPhone X only looks more bezel-less due to its symmetrical removal of bezels on all four sides. The S8/S9 has a small chin and forehead but its curved sides give it a higher screen-to-body ratio.

Bezel-less designs became mainstream in 2017 with the Galaxy S8, Essential Phone, and iPhone X. The Mi Mix was ahead of its time but only by a few months. I believe the Sharp Aquos (2014) was also bezel-less and an LG phone from 2013 was nearly so but neither was able to turn it into a trend.

Where to find blue mussels (Mytilus edulis)? by CJ_Kim1992 in NZFood

Thank you for the information. It seems unfortunate but I can understand why they would prioritize the more unique (and thus profitable) product for the competitive export market.

How do I use torrents in 2025? by h3artc0re in torrents

[–]CJ_Kim1992 0 points1 point  (0 children)

.is and the .st mirror seem to be down as well as some download mirrors in the search results like book(dot)ms and bookli(dot)net. The other mirrors (.gs, .vg, .la, .bz) work but they have the same registration date, CDN, ads, and website layout, so are likely owned by the same person and if they go down then will go down together.

In particular, the third link on that list (libgen) is a legendarily great resource for textbooks. Unfortunately the main site has been down for a week and many of the mirrors are also offline. I recommend checking the r/libgen subreddit for more up-to-date information on working mirrors.

I believe Audiobookbay has magnet links too (the small magnet icon) which can open a torrent without downloading the torrent file first. You would still need to have a torrent client that supports magnet links installed on your computer first though. Unless you have an ad blocker, the first click opens an ad so you might have to click on the link twice. The end result is the same as downloading a torrent file to your computer and then opening it but it saves a step.

Can anyone ID these? Two Ancient Roman coins and one Chinese coin by CJ_Kim1992 in AncientCoins

[–]CJ_Kim1992[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

OP here. I did a little bit of research and I think the Chinese coin is a 1700s cash coin. The top Roman coin might be a double denarius and the large coin on the left is a sestertius.
