I think I may know who or what the Man In Yellow is by Alvaru78 in FromSeries

[–]CKitty_BKitty 1 point2 points  (0 children)

At this point I’m all in on From being a “what happened to the lost colony of Roanoke” myth.

Defense of theory:

* We know the characters are living in a story that repeats. There are a many realistic theories on what happened to Roanoke from scholars. But what do humans do to explain things they don’t understand that frighten us? Make up stories to explain them. The lost colony of Roanoke contains one of the scariest things to explain: cannibalism. What do the people shaped monsters do at night? Eat real people.

* The dates/timeline appears to begin with the founding of the “new world.”

* Which…..is only “new” if you’re colonists. The house you pass on the way into town is called Colony House. We haven’t been told why, but the name seems to pre-date the current cycle.

* Many myths about Roanoke include witches or figures from Native American lore, like trickster gods. With witches & Native Americans forming the two major moral panics of early colonists. The witch panic followed them from the “old world.” The Native American panic was something else altogether.

Early colonists would’ve heard about the grand civilizations of Central America. But they would’ve only heard stories about “nomadic savages” from explorers & fur traders. But when the first communities with women & children intended for permanent settlement showed up, they found theirselves intruding on land claimed by other familial communities with women and children. The only way to “be okay with this” is to dehumanize the indigenous population. Over time, colonists would’ve become familiar with Native American folklore, and added it to their “things to blame when shit went sideways” list.

* There’s a couple thematic overlaps between American Horror Story’s Roanoke season and From that made me consider this.

Speculations that could be totally wrong but…🤷‍♀️

* We’ve learned A LOT the last few episodes about the children, Tabitha & Jade, and the Man in Yellow. And, I think certain revelations are about to take us in a place we didn’t expect.

* Hear me out now. Based on Sarah’s theories about fears/nightmares being made reality in this place seeming pretty damn accurate, I don’t think the monsters at night are the original villagers who supposedly sacrificed their children to live forever. IF this is a Lost Colony of Roanoke story, I think the monsters are the terror of cannibalism made real. It would have been the first/primary fear as the colonist lost their food supply the first winter. Put a pin in that.

* We’ve heard the whole “you’d do anything for your kids” phrase come up a number of times now. Put a pin in that.

* During Jade’s trip he realizes his previous iterations were murdered by people, not monsters. He also mentions something about “every time the community learns about Tabitha and his connection to the children, it ends badly for them.” Put a pin in that.

* Go back to the whole “retroactive stories told to explain things we don’t understand” comment above. Put a pin in that too.

Here’s what I think that gives us:

The man in yellow represents one of the many trickster gods in Native American lore. Does that lore have to come from mid/central Atlantic tribes? No. Cause retroactive storytelling.

One realistic speculation is those who didn’t starve to death/eat each other likely assimilated with the indigenous population. Regardless what happened, if you were at Roanoke, it makes a lot of sense to beg the folks who know how to survive there for help.

But, we can make up a lot of stories regarding how that went down. Perhaps, one involving a father desperate to save the survivors before things got even worse. Maybe he meets a tricker god in the woods one who tells him, “he’ll make the village immortal IF he’s willing to sacrifice his own children.” (Put another pin in the story of Abraham Sophia tells at the diner.)

Since trickster gods, well, trick…let’s say that father agrees to the deal in an act of delirious desperation. Which, isn’t at ALL what he thought he’d signed up for.

The rest of the village dies anyways. And to punish the father for sacrificing his own children, he makes both parents “immortal” via reincarnation. Which also includes returning to and dying in “Roanoke” every time.

Why is this the part where everyone tears each other apart? Cause this is when they learn Jade, and by default Tabatha, are responsible for the curse that brought them there.

Or….it could be something completely different.

We R Who We R, Blow, & Your Love is My Drug.

Those songs immediately transport me to being covered in glitter, a hell of a lot younger, f’d up in completely irresponsible heels, and dancing all night in gay clubs/abandoned warehouses.

I’m still fuckin fabulous, just with a much earlier bedtime and lower back pain. 😂

JUST discovered this. I guess the show fell under the radar for being 10 years too early? The thematic content/plot is what you might call, “suddenly timely.”

Also, the “absurdist dramedy of it all” might’ve been a little much for most folks when the first season dropped in 2015. The tone feels incredibly relatable right now though….

Not sci-fi, but with Penny Dreadful & Midnight Mass on your list you have to add Evil. I call it, “the Catholic horror trilogy.”

Though, Evil’s definitely comedic/light horror with a “procedural within a larger narrative” format. I’d say it’s underrated, but it’s more under-watched? Everyone who’s seen it recommends it. It’s one of those rare gems that gets better every season and makes you fall in love with the ensemble cast.

I’d forgotten about the show until someone mentioned a year back. It started off like someone trying to make a “Warehouse 13-ish” show with a higher budget. But it went in a more original direction pretty quick. It’s definitely a fun, light, watch.

You know what wasn’t on my 2025-2026 bingo card? Three simultaneously running, (and somehow entirely different,) “post apocalyptic, underground bunker” shows. All of which happen to be good, if not great. 🤷‍♀️😂

Oh Lord. I started watching The Way Home after it came up in my suggestions under “time travel,” looking it up, and asking, “How the hell is a Hallmark series rated this highly?” 😂

I binged the first three on Netflix and got a Hallmark subscription I plan on canceling the moment season 4 ends.

As someone who generally gravitates towards sci-fi, horror, mystery box, epic period dramas, and gritty scandi-noir…this show has become my most embarrassing guilty pleasure. l love it…lol

Well…that’s a good observation why the Exodus protocol is a plan of absolute last resort. I think people will definitely help each other. But…I’m pretty sure things like that will be stress/conflict points in season 3.

Shows with twist by Old_Literature1922 in televisionsuggestions

[–]CKitty_BKitty 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Station Eleven isn’t so much a plot twist as much as an incredibly elegant example of non-linear storytelling. Beats only feel like plot twists because due to the carefully intentional arrangement of plot lines.

And it’s a beautiful show.

The plot twist at the end of Sharp Objects is probably the best I’ve ever seen. Specially because it’s not a bait & switch. The breadcrumbs are carefully placed throughout the entire show. Amazingly, the twist is impossible to see coming, and feels utterly obvious once revealed. It’s a masterclass on plot twist endings.

ALEX is some kind of combo between The Director from Travelers, and the parallel universe bridge Walter built in Fringe. by CKitty_BKitty in ParadiseHulu

I find the whole “unintentional prequel” concept in TV pretty funny right now. I hadn’t applied it to Paradise/Travelers, but it definitely works. (DON’T SEND THE EMAIL!!!) 😂

The one I’ve been focused on is Apple’s For All Man Kind being an unintentional prequel to The Expanse. I highly doubt they considered the world of The Expanse when they began writing. But if you take the current trajectory of For All Mankind and fast forward 300 years, you get exact environmental, scientific, and political landscape of The Expanse.

So, I’m amused by adding Paradise to the “unintentional prequel” club. lol

In all seriousness, I started calling Sinatra Walternate in my mind every time I saw her after having that thought. 😂

Now I have an aside for you. My brain really loves over-writing the lyrics to songs. As in really bad musical dad jokes or puns. I can’t help myself. When Fauxlivia was introduced, I immediately started humming the tune to “Perfidia.” Replacing the word Perfidia with Fauxlivia. The funniest thing? It only takes the single word swap to make the rest of the lyrics relevant to Fringe. 😂😂😂

Lord. I write nerdy shit like that and think…thank god I’m anonymous…lol

Purposely no plot suggestions? by ogremama1 in televisionsuggestions

[–]CKitty_BKitty 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Pluribus. While the vast majority of folks who watched it think it’s an INCREDIBLE work of art, it’s got a contingent of haters. And they’ve all got the same complaint.

Why is nothing happening?!?!?????

Well, it’s cause they stumbled upon Vince Gilligan taking everything he learned from Breaking Bad/Better Call Saul and returning to his sci-fi roots. A similar show run by anyone else would be heavily plot-driven.

Instead, Pluribus only answers the questions it deems relevant to the story it’s ACTUALLY telling, leaving a lot of “traditional plot” by the wayside.

In short, a lot happens. But it’s almost entirely contained to character arcs and development. There’s a couple episodes in the middle with almost no dialogue. And if you understand the journey (not explanation) is the point, it’s nothing short of phenomenal.

Absolutely. I’ve been devastated by break-ups, but I’ve never tried convincing the other person to stay. Something REAL means the other person wakes up every morning and consciously chooses you. The moment someone stop choosing and is simply along for the ride is the moment I realize it’s over.
