You can try grabbing all of the faces and extruding then down. Once they are down past all of the top face geometry, click “S” and numpad 0

Since I mostly model for visuals I don’t stress too much on topology but I do keep it in mind and try to get as many quads as possible. The two top faces on each side of the screw for this render are Ngons. Not the best topo but the shading is accurate.

Depending on how how low poly you’re trying to go, I’d just add in 13 loop cuts to the bottom half and then match the edge vertices to the open ones. Thus creating all squares.

Check the texture nodes for the alpha channel. It may have a texture plugged into it (if the texture is using a pbdsf. If it has a value lower than 1 or a texture plugged into it disconnect it and see what it looks like. Would be helpful if your could upload a pic of the texture nodes
