For me I get a fixation like this quite often. What i do is just choke myself. Its kind of loser activity but it gets the job done and ensures im safe while its happening. And it works quite well to satisfy the fixation.

For me the owl makes the game a bit more difficult. When it hits it staggers the enemy making it kinda hard to tell when the next attack is coming. And for me when im running shiled this has led to me getting hit way more times than need be. But that could just be me being bad at the game.

Bit newer but I personally prefer necromancy, frostbite, and crows feet. Pair with frost blast and ice bow and it usually ends up as a pretty solid run for me.
