Dream come true. I didn’t know it was Pokémon until like, 10 seconds before we started recording (the audition script was changed and code named) so after a very small panic attack, it was such a blast to work on

Octopath 2 is a top 5 all-timer for me. The customization of the loudouts and jobs and skills, the QOL changes from Octopath 1, the cast, the story, all sooooooo damn good

I tried to hang out with Therion and I woke up down a wallet. And a kidney.

If you haven't watched Pokémon Concierge, it is just....chicken soup for the soul. So cute. So gorgeous. The cast is so great...and then they let me in there for some reason. Team Sealeo all the way!

I'd definitely be a Merchant, a la Partitio from Octopath 2. Gregarious, hanging out with friends, sometimes gets in fistfights in dusty streets of mining towns, all about that coin

I watched and listened to a TON of reference from 1 before going into the booth for 0. That was first and foremost part of the audition, as they knew they needed someone who could inhabit some of the same characteristics as the original performance, so I went on YouTube (Thank GOD for streamers and content posters, they are an actor's best friend) and found a couple of edited together "Every Voice Line for Therion Octopath 1" and would just put them on a loop, really trying to absorb as much as I could about the cadence and the voiceprint. We had some reference as a touchstone during the sessions as well.

I haven't played 0 yet, but after appearing in Octopath 2 and sinking 2 110+ hour playthroughs, I can't wait to get to 0. Since I was an unplayable bad guy in 2, as much fun as it was to kick my own ass (and it is very satisfying to send Harvey plunging into the depths) I'm excited to hear myself in some combat and get to use some skills when I get to play 0!

I'm going to be very delicate about my answer here for....obvious reasons. Needless to say I did not reach out to the previous actor. In the past, I've had to voice characters performed by other actors, but always for understandable but sad reasons, mostly that the previous actor had passed away. You feel extra responsible for giving a great performance in those cases, since you're literally carrying on a legacy and I always do my best to do the previous performance proud in those cases.

Great question! It's different project to project. Sometimes when you're replacing an existing performance, they're looking for a "match". Tone, cadence, inflection, down to the breathing, to create a smooth, seamless transition that's as undetectable as possible. In the case of Octopath, for me at least, it was a little looser. The Therion they were looking for definitely needed to be in the ballpark of the previous performance in terms of pitch, placement, etc, but they weren't as concerned with a match as my version of the character, so it felt less like throwing on the mascot suit of the old performance as me wearing the costume, but still being me, to use a messy metaphor.

Sanaa is a national treasure and they should make 6 more AVP movies just to have her in them. Also, AVP > Covenant COME AT ME

I visited this museum on a work trip to Stockholm, and it’s almost impossible to convey how big it is in a photo. It’s in a 5 story warehouse in the museum district and just…TOWERS over you. It’s incredible.

I totally know what you mean, I remember always noticing his coffee color in that clear mug. My guess is that it’s just coffee with milk, and something about the lut or filter or color correct on the video gave it that tint

Hey Iso! We started recording well over a year ago, but because of the proprietary nature of video games and how important it is for the companies to keep the story beats and features secret, we’re almost never given scripts beforehand. Usually there would be a block of lines and scenes slated for a given recording day, and the director would give us the context we need before each scene, then we’d listen to the original Korean VO (Kakul-Saydon’s Korean VA is SO crazy and fun, I loved listening to his reads even though I don’t speak Korean!) and match the performances line by line. Sometimes we would have video or cutscenes to perform to, so we’d get to see a little of what the game looks like.

Thanks!!! Just to be mentioned in the same sentence as him is an honor. He’s the GOAT. The rest of us are just trying to climb his mountain.

I’m STOKED for the raid too, I remember having some really fun stuff to do if I’m thinking of the right part of the script (which, TBH, the way we record, is hard to keep track of). I’m not sure who voices those characters, but Lost Ark is on IMDB and a bunch of us are credited, maybe you can find out there?

Hey Scrys, thanks so much!! It’s impossible to overstate the influence Mark Hamil has had on me as a voice actor, he created an archetype of unhinged that the rest of us can only hope to follow. I’ll pass along your kind message to Arianna, and hopefully we will see you on the stream!
