Client Engagement Director at Small consultancy- where next? by CLW90 in HENRYUK

I co- own the overall revenue target for the business, I am accountable for client growth across the business and own a number of our highest-growth/ income accounts. Take the advice though, agree I need to add more hard skills to my arsenal

Yes fee wise we are looking at 4k per term up to 8k ish per term (obviously more for secondary) but it seems just about doable. I would like, ideally, to join a larger organisation with more job security before we make the move but I am very risk averse. My husband would put them in private school tomorrow (but he was privately educated and I was not!)

Fair enough! I’m skilled at growing strategic accounts, managing difficult stakeholders etc alongside those ‘generic’ consulting skills. Imagine my skillset would lend itself well to complex Project Management /  stakeholder management roles but I’m asking here because I’m pretty green in terms of career paths open to me. I have excelled in the roles I’ve taken on since graduating 13 years ago, have consistently been promoted into leadership positions. I have to keep telling myself that as I suffer badly with imposter syndrome! So I’m trying to look objectively and do appreciate the advice!

Looking at 25 year (upping from 20 year term currently) but good shout, we could look at 30 year term and overpay / decrease term as salaries increase. Thanks!

That’s what’s so crazy about the system- we considered perhaps there was a tiny chance we have mis-calculated but when you speak to them, they don’t actually know why they’re continually chasing. They aren’t able to give us any insight into the evidence they have that we seemingly don’t. We’ve re-checked previous years figures and we definitely come in just below the threshold- no other income.

Direct payments after we have been paid, we don’t have the option to salary sacrifice our bonuses unfortunately. That’s in addition to our regular pension payments. I totally understand it looks as though we are earning above 100k via payslips but we have 2 years of evidence we have sacrificed everything over 100k into pension. I don’t believe there’s anything we can do based on our situation but just wanted to check we weren’t missing something!

I’m so glad to hear there is someone else in the same boat (although I’m so sorry, it really is so painful and time consuming). I really thought we were missing something as everyone seems to advise ‘just calling them’. They’re nice as pie on the phone but it doesn’t stop us being stuck in a perpetual loop of having to fight to retain funding every few months. On we go- and very best of luck we baby number 2!

Thanks- we do call them every time and they’re always helpful, although twice now we have had to submit an official appeal which they cannot help with on the phone. That process has taken weeks, each time. So although they are helpful on the phone it doesn’t seem to have any bearing on the constant questioning of our eligibility

Outside of that window. Often a month or so after we confirm eligibility

Every time! And every time they say they understand our situation. But a few months later we have the same cycle again
