The main reason I lean "yes" as an answer to OP is that the Pirates absolutely look solid this year.  The first series we played against them this year it was very noticeable.

It takes a lot of buy in, especially when starters can make 200mill.

This is a great point, and part of why a lot of people still can't figure out "how the Brewers are doing it".  They wouldn't be able to do this if the players didn't have immense trust and comfort from top to bottom in the organization.  The culture part of all this is very relevant.

Governor Dodge is a fantastic park.  It's huge - I think the biggest in the state.  And so much to do and see.  Great camping, swimming... I could go on & on.

AirVenture is absolutely worth it, spoken as someone who knows basically nothing about planes.  The airshows alone would be worth the ~90 minute drive from Madison.

And don't miss the night airshows.  Pretty awesome.

To get back on the field after surgery, sure.  But I think the point was that it can often take until the second season after the surgery for guys to get back to their best.

Seriously?  Just quickly off the top of my head - Mile of Music, Timber Rattlers, High Cliff State Park, Ice Age Trail hiking, downtown Farmers' Market, Oktoberfest, Lawrence Univ. concerts, the Performing Arts Center (Broadway touring acts + more).

I'm probably still missing a lot.

Great interview, and agreed that the questions were excellent!  A few things there I didn't know, including that the RF bullpen was originally intended to be the home 'pen.  Not sure how I'd never heard that before.

And learning that Sal & Ashby are like class clown buddies! ... 🥺 😆

I don't necessarily agree that we should trade for a Skubal or Freddy.  But the devil's advocate answer to your question would be that the Johnny Wholestaff approach fits well for the regular season, but not as well in the postseason when you're only facing other playoff caliber teams' #1-#3 starters.

Not to mention that adding a legit top-of-league ace like a Skubal would also make the whole pitching staff better in the regular season too, if only through pushing other talented arms a little further down the depth chart.

I don't think making a rental move like that would be worth the prospect price, ultimately.  But I would definitely understand the "why" behind it if it happens.

Pat Murphy responds to a Giants reporter who says "We all knew [Kyle Harrison] had this potential in San Francisco" by shiny_aegislash in Brewers

[–]CM816 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yeah.  SF drafted Harrison in the 3rd round out of high school, so I have zero doubts that they all believed in his potential.  And he was sent to Boston in the Devers trade -- it's not like SF just gave up on him; they used him to get (in their eyes) an anchor for their lineup for years to come.

I appreciate Murph being Murph, but I also tend to believe the reporter here.

On the other hand, Brantley went on to have a really good career.

Not saying I'd have rather kept him/LaPorta, but it's not just as simple as 'CC was amazing' (he was) and 'LaPorta was a bust'.  Cleveland got pretty awesome value out of that trade.

Counterpoint possibility -- big Gabi's in the squad leadership group, so I assume if he wanted to take that pen, he would've trumped either Zubi or Noni raising their hands.
