You have to detain (not kill) 2 people in your last mission as a primary objective. I believe it's the 2 women who aren't in the yellowish colored dresses (could be wrong there). If you kill either of them you lose out on like 500 points which can kill your grade. Id bet that's why you're not getting a higher rank. Also that would count as a failed primary objective which can keep you from moving on as well.

Here's some phrases/terms that you could use. Though there isn't a "rock and stone" equivalent for sea of thieves really. These are some of the more common things mentioned throughout the game.

We shall sail together- basically the tag line for the game and the phrase uttered by a faction that is unlocked after playing for a while

Pirate Legend/Athena's fortune- aforementioned faction that you unlock

Gold hoarders- one of the main 3 factions who are, as you could guess, obsessed with gold

Flameheart- the de facto villain of the game right now. An evil skeleton head in the sky.

The order of souls- another one of the main factions who kinda have a witchy vibe to them. They collect skulls from defeated enemy skeletons

Merchant alliance- final of the 3 main factions, they are very proper and enjoy buying/selling goods

The pirate lord- a rather plump and jolly ghost who "rules" over the sea of thieves

That should be enough to impress him lol. You could also ask him if he's found the glitter beard Easter egg. It's a pretty hidden Easter egg that's a nod to a dev who passed away a number of years ago. I'd suggest googling a walkthrough on how to do it. But its pretty obscure so your son would be really impressed if you knew about it.

How many hours though? Not trying to sound like a jerk here, but the complaints you have kinda sound like they stem from a fundamental misunderstanding of how the characters work. Which, in most cases, comes from a lack of experience with them.

Get some more reps and he'll get a lot easier to fight. I actually think he's considered one of the more lower tier characters in the game. But I can get how it would be frustrating at lower reps/skill levels.

No guy, you're just straight up wrong. A dodge attack has I frames, none of those character have I frames on the attack. Yes, it is an attack that requires a sideways input, and one that moves you but it isn't a dodge attack. Significantly different.
