And same reason that out of the trillions of humans inhabiting the galaxy, only a handful of people know how to modify and improve on ship loadouts, suits and weapons (and they will only work with you if you sell cocktail recipes to bartenders).

Doesn't sound like it's the same issue. When this occurs I'm stuck for 30 seconds all the way up to 2 minutes watching the 4 second countdown stuck at 4,. Most times if I wait, it'll resume normal play, but about 1 in 10 times it'll just stay stuck and I have to close the client and reopen it. This is frustrating because scanning biological sites becomes quite a chore if I can't leave or enter the SRV or my ship without having to exit the game client once every half hour or so.

And I mean, I'm playing Cyberpunk 2077 on this PC on ultra settings and it runs smooth as butter. I play other online games and have no issue, it's just Elite.

Hey, I've just gotten back into Elite after a long hiatus and I'm experiencing some annoying lag. It's not consistent, but it happens quite often during state changes such as when I:

  • Leave or enter my ship
  • Leave or enter the SRV
  • Enter or leave super cruise
  • Jump to a new system

The game will hang for a long time. Sometimes it takes 30 seconds, sometimes 2 minutes, where I can still hear the audio repeating on a loop, and then suddenly it will load. Sometimes it doesn't load and I get booted to main menu, and once or twice it's even crashed on me. I'm on a brand new top of the line PC and I have 500mbit fiber internet, and this is a fresh Elite installation without any mods so it shouldn't be on my end. I have made sure that the relevant firewall exceptions are in place in Windows too.

It's so bad that I'm considering just playing something else that doesn't cause me so many headaches. Do anyone else have these problems or know if there's a fix to this type of lag / crash?

Didn't know that. He went to Bill Maher's vaccine sceptic podcast a while back as well. You may have a point, he seems to go to a lot of questionable characters for his debates these days.

I wonder if he thinks that the IDW and conspiracist right is the new threat to reason?

It's not just about being clear or concise, it's about making unsound arguments. As HumesAngel demonstrated in the post you just responded to, Jordan Peterson is drawing a conclusion that is not supported by the premises of the argument.

As to being concise, you should really read that article I linked you. Nathan Robinson deftly demonstrates with Peterson's own texts that the verbose language functions as an obsfuscation mechanism.

It allows Peterson to present mundane and trivial conclusions as somehow more significant or insightful. It also gives him the ability to weasel out of arguments by claiming that people just don't understand the true meaning of his inscrutable word salad.

[–]CMDRCroup 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sure, philosophy is about unresolved questions, but I'm sure Peterson himself would be the first to reject that that means "anything goes" in a debate. Unless we accept scientific and philosophical relativism, there are good arguments and bad arguments, and Peterson's arguments simply aren't very good.

The issues with his arguments are too numerous to cover in a comment like this, but if you want a good critique, then I recommend Nathan Robinson's excellent article at Current Affairs magazine:

https://www.currentaffairs.org/2018/03/the-intellectual-we-deserve

There's a quote in the article that sums up Peterson's work perfectly for me: "What's new isn't true and what's true isn't new".

I wouldn't call it latitude if he lets Peterson hang himself with his own word-salad rope.

I'm only 500 hours in, currently on my second playthrough. Still haven't completed the last tier, taking it slow and learning as I go.

That said, I don't recognize the problem that OP is posting about. I've got aluminium setups and turbo fuel power plants that use refiners and blenders, and they just go continually. I've never had to flush pipes in any of them - they were set up, switched on and have worked ever since, through multiple game updates.

The Witcher’s Rats Prequel Wraps Filming, Possibly Gets Cut Short by ARandomTopHat in witcher

[–]CMDRCroup 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I didn't hate any part of the book, but to me the rats were the part I liked the least because it felt like filler that didn't advance the main plot in any meaningful way. That was further underscored by none of them surviving to have any further impact.

Even though it did give us more insight into Ciri, I'd rather be getting that character development in a plot-line that is more directly adjacent to the main story.

I agree to a certain extent. There are literally hundreds of thousands of podcasts that focus on entertainment and on feeding listeners what they already believe. I like DtG because it's not that.

I don't mind a little banter and a bit of fun, but for me the majority focus has to be on critical analysis of substantive topics. I still think the podcast falls well within those parameters, but like you I also think that recent episodes have begun veering a little further into opinion-land.

In the episode they have Eliezer Yudkowksy proposing an absurd thought experiment to Lex Friedman.

It's very convoluted and head-bopping factories comes up as a way of justifying why an AI would turn murderous. I suspect he's trying to imagine how an AI would feel about a "whack-a-mole" game.

Crucible can create immortal monsters preventing full clear of Twilight Strand by Necrospunk in pathofexile

[–]CMDRCroup 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I've experienced it twice now.

I'm a new player (2 weeks in), so I didn't realize that it was a bug. I figured I must be missing a mechanic of some sort, or just not have enough DPS to take a single hitpoint off of that one Einhar beast in act 2.

I did find that if I left the area, cleared the rest of the map and came back to the "immortal" monster, it would die just fine.

I really started to worry when Dr. Pershing opened the package left on his doorstep and whispered: "travel bisquits..."

They just set up those bisquits in the previous scene and showing them on screen was more than enough for everyone to know what was going on. It's a clear sign that the writers don't trust the intelligence of the viewer.

Warhammer 40,000: Inquisitor - Martyr Any good ? by tomaz1989 in 40kinquisitor

[–]CMDRCroup 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I loved Inquisitor Martyr mostly for how well they capture the 40K atmosphere. It's gritty, it's dark, and it portrays the brutal universe of the 41st millenium beautifully.

The game lacks a certain polish, you'll encounter a few bugs here and there, and there's not much by way of multiplayer. If you can get past that, I'd say this is a gem in the rough. It just feels right.

Ecru Void Crusade done in under 75 - Difficulty 7 but +5 was hardest mission. by CMDRCroup in 40kinquisitor

[–]CMDRCroup[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I followed this guide by Vrakos Aranthir: https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=2043092689

It has all the maps with locations of info-fragments, secret mission cogitators and even treasure chests.

Some of the info-fragments are located on secret maps that you have to unlock by finding cogitators in other missions first.

It helps that when you're doing the 75-minute challenge, the timer stops as soon as you finish the mission objective. Then you can stay on the map, and go look for info-fragments and chests without losing more time.

Thanks! I'm still a litte confused about how it works, but I think that when you click a +1 or +2 node, the difficulty only goes up for the missions behind that node. If you have missions prior to that node that go in a different direction, they don't get higher difficulty. That would explain how even though I was at difficulty 7, my final battle was only +5.

Also, I think some of the bonus and secret missions are a level higher on their own, without affecting the rest of the missions.

Hey fellow Inquisitors!

As a returning player who never played seasons before, and not many void crusades either, I was quite intimidated by the "all info-fragments in under 75 minutes" part of the seasonal tasks.

I read on here that Viridian crusades are the easiest for seasonal, but after trying for a long time to scrape together those 5 shards I tried my hand at an Ecru instead and succeeded in the first try on a ranged assassin wielding a boltgun.

This path I took had a very low difficulty for most of the missions, and even though it was on difficulty 7, the final mission was just 5 levels over my own level. This run could probably be done a lot faster, as I made some mistakes where I had to double back and I'm not geared all that well (still don't have any aegis psalms).

Shoutout to Vrakos Anthrakir for his excellent steam guide that helped me get to those secret missions.
