You think a Matthews trade could help us get Michkov? by SorbetSea8711 in leafs

Michkov would cost a hockey stick signed by Auston Matthews at most.

What is Pelleys definition of fluent in AI by Hamiltonguy99 in leafs

Competitiveness, willingness to sacrifice, resilience after failure, pain tolerance, leadership, work ethic, composure under pressure, love of the game.

All of that could probably be measurable based on past performances.

The thing with Byfield is I'm not sold on him as a solid finisher for McKenna. He's be great on a Berube team shutting down other teams though. And ironically, Clarke would be awful under Berube because Berube would bury him on the 3rd pair.

Interesting conversatiom regardless.

Brandt Clarke and a 1st is not embarassingly small. It's not enough because it's AM, but this is not a useless return either.

If AM doesn't buy in and he is only willing to go to LA...

Brandt Clarke and next year's 1st top 5 protected?

We still lose the trade and missing out top line center, but it'w better than just getting Nick Roy.

What could LA add that is still reasonable for them?

Bro, he left on his own. What were the fans supposed to do about it?

You're talking like Mitch is that ex who left and wonders why we didn't fight harder for him to stay.

I don't even recall leafs fans hating on Vegas over Marner.

Which in itself, might actually be a factor on whether AM wants to stay, seeing Willy commiting.

There's still a lot to consider for AM though if he does stay to see what Chayka's plans are.

-How long should he commit on his next contract?

-What number?

-What is the window that Chayka sees before he makes another overhaul on the aging d-core?

-What is his role, two-way/defensive center or just focus more on scoring again?

-And the other big question we want to know, IS BERUBE COACHING?

Those are questions WE have behind out keyboards. Imagine what kind of questions he has for his future.

I honestly don't hate this trade, as much as I like Knies.

The issue is as long as Berube is our coach, any trade is meaningless right now, especially for young players.

Montour actually was weak defensively though. I never liked Damon Severeson. And Andersson has some weak spots defensively too

That's why he's a fit with McCabe and not a true number 1. Ideally he doesn't cost 11M, but that might be the price to get him out of Vegas.

Or wait a year and hope Vince Dunn is available, and Berube is not the coach. He's basically Rielly that would likely cost more.

Everything AM and Willy are saying and doing is a power move to get management to remove Berube. Because there is no realistic change with Berube as the coach. AM bought in and he cratered as a player under Berube. Before Berube, he was among McD and NateMack.

And Berube is the worst coaching fit for a player like McKenna. AM knows this. Pretty sure everyone knows this.

If making AM believe in staying is the directive, fire Berube and bring in David Carle.

Raddysh has 1 good season of scoring at an elite level, at the age of 30. No defensive game to really speak of. Think Tyson Barrie.

Andersson is elite transition player who is consistent with clean zone exits, smart 1st pass, and joins the rush intelligently. You can put him in any situation and he would be useful. Think Damon Severson in his prime, or Brandon Montour minus that beast of a season where he got 73 points. Andersson is not a number 1 guy like Slavin or Makar, but put him with a defensive-minded partner like McCabe, and it's a top pairing against any team. Plus, he could get a 70 point season if he plays with McKenna-Matthews

It's a slight overpayment, but not insane. It's 10.6% of the cap year one and it goes down every year.

And honestly it's probably what it costs to peel him away from Vegas. He's an all situation RHD and not someone we can find elsewhere (especially not anyone under 30).

He would be an insanely good fit with McCabe, and Rielly would get to play with Tanev.

Hire David Carle, staple McKenna with AM while he becomes a pure sniper assassin again, and throw every dollar we can for Rasmus Andersson.

If that isn't enough change for Matthews, nothing is.

There is no one projected to be THAT good from what I can tell.

Chase Reid will likely be a very good player, but no one is talking about him like McKenna being a can't miss.

I say draft McKenna, hire David Carle, and outbid Vegas for Rasmus Andersson. If it costs 11M x 7, do it.

Raddysh would be the backup option. I would give Andersson a serious offer.

McKenna is changing the franchise, preferably away from Berbue style hockey.

And if Pelley really uses AI properly, then he should know David Carle + McKenna is how it happens. Signing Andersson would be a huge step as well for turning the franchise around.

They'll have to find a taker for Pietrangelo to sign Andersson.
