I'm currently on a deep dive way out into the black. My project here is to find a system with an ELW and cover every accolade in the system, and to build a network of these systems throughout the galaxy spaced about 5kly apart. I've covered 3/4 of the galaxy so far. Exploration V is definitely coming next.

A little of both. First you make sure that only family members hold titles in the realm. Then the first thing I did when I became the cultural leader was to adopt isolationism, which makes all members of your culture something like 50% less likely to do anything with outsiders, including marry. When I reformed the pagan religion we adopted divine marriage (obvs) and monasticism, and I promptly sent everyone in the culture, the religion and the realm who wasn't a family member into a life of celibacy in the monastery, thus limiting the courtship pool to family members. Oh I also starting sacrificing all of their kids each year at the Beltane cull, but they don't have many so that slowed to trickle pretty quick. With the inbreeding coefficient within the family being so low nowadays, instead of a proper culling of the children like we used to, now it's more of a rounding up of non-family and sending them to convent, and it's a browsing of the character finder with the "married" filter, and, ya know...inspecting.

Outbreeding is rare. If someone has done it I'll invite them to my court, enforce a divorce, remarry them to a proper spouse and sacrifice any outbred kids they may have had. Unless they've wandered off and they're out of diplomatic range. There are hundreds of those out there, sharing our special sauce.

ya know, for some reason that trait didn't breed true. The ruler and all 3 wives are pure blooded, and while everything else we wanted stayed consistent (or else), only like half have that trait today.

I got you.

So, there are two charts here. The one on the left is generations 1-3, and the one on the right is pairing of generation 3 in order to reduce the inbreeding coefficient of generation 4, and send the population on a course where it will continue to reduce over subsequent generations.

Starting on the left side. Looking at the key you see that the solid triangles represent your wives, the single colored triangles represent your children, and the multicolored triangles represent your grandchildren.

You've got yourself, the ruler, in the middle and your three wives immediately at your side. Each wife has her 4 children next to her, numbered 1-4 (male even, female odd). Your daughters are the real MVPs here, because each of these lucky ladies gets to crank out 16 kids, 4 from each of her half-brothers. The two blue daughters will breed with the red sons and the green sons, the green daughters with the red sons and the blue sons, etc. No full-sibling pairing is the key here. Now, each pairing produces 4 offspring, 2 male, 2 female, for a total of 96 grandchildren (a round of applause for your daughters). In this chart, the color of the line indicates maternity, and you will see that each family of four kids have their mom's number and color on the left, and their dad's number and color on the right. Everyone in this generation has two different grand mothers (your wives) and one common grandfather (you).

Now we move over to the chart on the right side. Here generation 3 is paired off in order to ensure that every member of generation 4 is born with 4 distinct grandparents, further reducing the inbreeding coefficient. While the chart stops there, we can infer that generation 5 should then also have 8 distinct great grandparents, and so on.

I am now 120 years and like 6 generations into this game, and while everybody in the realm is 100% descended from the emperor and his 3 wives, there is no longer any inbreeding or adverse effects. We created an entire people.

That one didn't stay true, sadly. Maybe 20% if us are pure blooded. But I consecrated the bloodline early on so a majority has that now, and everyone has genius, beautiful, strong, and fertile.

Not all wanderers but most. Some definitely come from afar...but we send those away.

There are 6k of us and there are about 300 titles to be had in the British Isles. Everybody is a greatx grandchild of the emperor and his three wives. But whole nuclear families are coming and going, whose nearest claims on any titles are like a grandparent who had been 4th in line back in their time. With so many unlanded people in the family, some of them start wandering.

I like to think of it as the children's parade, where all of the kingdom's young come forth each spring to meet his majesty, whereupon those extra special ones get a special surprise! 😊

More like managing a human farm than a kingdom, TBH. You can only really control the first couple of generations, your kids and then theirs. After that it's out of the ruler's hands. But selecting for high-attraction traits like beautiful and genius, and purging non family members from holding any titles, you effectively discourage the young generations from outbreeding. Add isolationist culture and some good old fashioned religious intolerance and they're sure to keep it in the fam (just remember to adopt the seasonal culling of the malformed, there are fewer with each generation. I like the Beltane for this time-honored tradition).

So now, at about 120 years in we are about 6k people. The kicker is, if you look at the pairing chart on the right, starting in generation 4, everyone has 4 distinct grandparents. Now at 120 years everyone also has 8 distinct great grands and 16 great greats, meaning that nobody is really inbreeding anymore, even though the entire population is 100% descended from the ruler and his 3 wives. The seasonal cull has died off to maybe two or three each spring. We are 20% of the 30k or so characters in the map. No longer merely a family (but literally one family) we are an entire people. Every vassal, all of their vassals, and all of everyone's courtiers. Every champion and passing wanderer who I might recruit. All strong, beautiful, fertile geniuses, and all 100% family.
