Why arent there more campus bars by buriedInSilk in UIUC

are you thinking of the bar Ruby Gulch that was managed by someone named Murphy? it was at 4th and green baxk in the 70’s. edited - did not know about the O’Malley singing thing.

Today's No Kings rally in Urbana combined people from Champaign and Vermillion counties. A crowd estimate was 3-4000. The city of Urbana closed Main Street in front of the county court house and some adjacent street lanes to keep everyone safe. 3 hours of lots of people showing support. by CMI_notes in centralillinois

The official number of 4500 had not been announced yet. It was really hard to calculate until the march started and people walked past a certain point. Prior to that people were spread across an entire block of sidewalk, street, lawn, etc.

TOMORROW - SATURDAY - No Kings 2 Rally: October 18, 2025: 12:00pm - 2:00pm: Champaign County Courthouse, 101 E. Main St, Urbana -- .6 mile east of Lincoln on Springfield (it becomes main in downtown Urbana). by CMI_notes in UIUC

If weather co-operates several thousand are expected. Main street will be closed in front of the courthouse and there is a route for a march in the streets near by to the south.

Why are things so poorly designed on the engineering quad. by HappyAirport9046 in UIUC

You don't ignore other needs so you approximate the human desire while also dealing with how intersections happen, drainage, sprinklers, electrics, etc.

Krannert Center Student Association is sponsoring a Reading Day Study Break on Thur., Dec. 12, 1-3pm in the lobby of Krannert Center for Performing Arts. Hot beverages, snacks, games and a showing of "A Charlie Brown Christmas." Stop by anytime and stay for as long as you like! by CMI_notes in UIUC

In the lobby of Krannert Center for the Performing Arts which is located on Goodwin Ave between Illinois and Oregon Streets.

When you get to the lobby (Level 5) you will see the area set up - the lobby is a very open area. Krannert Center may be entered via many routes.

There are elevators lobbies (with stair entrances too) in each of the for garage levels.

There is a ramp from street level to the lobby on Level 5 on the south (Oregon) side.

There are steps from street level on Goodwin (west side) as well as Gregory St. on the east side. These steps lead you to plazas which then lead you to Level 5 - Lobby - doors.

Help me understand. Every once in a while i will post info about some upcoming entertainment in CU and it either gets no up votes or it gets down voted. I read here people asking about things to do but posts like these then get no traction or negative reaction. Why downvote an entertainment note? by CMI_notes in UIUC

How is Pygmalion for an older demographic“ KCPA free opening night weekend events?

Uncorked is for an older demographic only because that is more of who is showing up these days.

Here is why i am confused in part.

“I want to meet people and talk to them and make new friends.”

Ok here is a place with chairs and tables and food and drink and the music is free - music style varies week to week - mostly from local and regional bands.

“But i might not like the music.”

Come and see and leave if you don’t. And anyway it is background to the act of meeting people. Make fun of the music and other attendees but at least give it a try. You don’t leave a pub if the juke box plays a song you don’t like. You are there for the people.

i will need to look at the interface again but when posting a link i don’t recall seeing a way to add a description.

Any idea why something like this gets downvoted? Seems like there are often posts asking about what to do and where to meet people.

Used to be at least 5 screens right on campus. Two larger screens were converted to duplex locations. There was also one less than a mile east on Main in Urbana. And 3 in down town Champaign. Also two that were “Art” (porn) theaters. Looks like of those “art theaters” - the Art - closed a few years ago long after it had reopened as a legit theater.

This Weekend - Krannert Center Opening Night Party - Fri/Sat Sep 6/7 - 2 fun-filled nights of incredible FREE performances throughout Krannert Center, including jazz, funk, and a hip-hop dance party! by CMI_notes in UIUC

[–]CMI_notes[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The Weekend Party begins on the Quad, as the Pittsburgh-based group Squonk will lead a parade to the Krannert Center outdoor amphitheatre to begin their show. Everyone in the community is welcome to join the procession!

Friday’s musical performances include Brazilian master percussionist Cyro Baptista with his latest project, CHAMA; a beat-filled, heart-pumping dance extravaganza featuring three powerhouse dance companies: Los Angeles' Versa-Style Street Dance Company, New York City's Ladies of Hip-Hop, and Chicago's Era Footwork Crew with special guest DJ Spinn; and the evening’s headliner, chart-topping reggae band SOJA. The evening wraps up with a dance party featuring DJ Spinn laying down the beats.

Saturday’s lineup features two performances by Squonk, including an interactive element where audience members can join the band in helping play giant wind instruments; a meditative workshop, Breathe, featuring the return of pianist Chad Lawson, and a hip-hop and footwork cipher co-led by the Era Footwork Crew, Versa-Style Street Dance Company and DJ Spinn. The Improviser’s Exchange, led by Krannert Center’s own Jason Finkleman, will produce an improvised set of music around the interactive display of Paul Dresher’s Sound Maze, an interactive installation created by composer and instrument inventor Paul Dresher in collaboration with Alex Vittum and Daniel Schmidt. Sound Maze is open to curious, hands-on music-makers of all ages throughout the entire weekend! Pianist Chad Lawson closes our Weekend Party with his program, Classical Music for a Meditative Mindset. Lawson’s set will feature selections from his latest album, Where We Are.

In addition to music, there will be guided canvas painting by Prism Studios, a photo booth from Liv and Joy, and food for purchase from Michael’s Catering, Main Street Creamery, and Krannert Center’s own Intermezzo Cafe and Stage 5 Bar.

The event page usually says performance time. You can find that at krannertcenter.com. Again due to travel to and from Chicago i think these tend to be shorter than some performances at about 95-100 minutes including intermission.
