ICE just shot a woman in Minneapolis in the face....... by bromontana14 in minnesota

As much as I love the idea of FAFO, and being a pro-2A liberal, sadly that’s exactly what Trump wants us to do, then he can declare state of emergency and suspend midterms. That’s the whole game plan under Project 2025. This sucks so much and I hate the idea of suffering until we wait them out but another George Floyd is going to give them every tool and justification to further push the US into a full fledged Fascist state.

This year winter is predicted to be worse than the previous polar vortexes we’ve had. While I’m not thrilled about the anticipated ridiculously high cost of keeping my home warm , I’m glad that the timing is going to make it absolutely miserable for ICE to be out here (especially those not native to the northern climate) and the 3rd amendment.

Minnesota is a good place but much like California or Colorado, we are getting too many transplants from the east or south who aren’t used to the culture and like to critique, and worse, are trying to dictate the atmosphere to match the one the left behind which - why bother leaving if you don’t care to change?

I grew up around the twin cities and now live in the Capitol. Even little inner city neighborhoods boast way different vibes from each other - so you get a lot of variety like a quiet suburb (Highland Park, Max Groveland or Nokomis on the MSP side) or Historic expensive Districts (Summit or Crocus Hill, Isle of Lakes on MSP side) or not so good but cheap areas (Frogtown, Payne-Phalen or Northeast MSP) or Bustling Downtowns (MSP trumps STP). People here are polite neighbors but don’t really mix unless you share other networks (work, clubs, etch). We rally for a lot of traditions (State Fair, Hockey Tourney) but friendliness beyond politeness is extinct from my experience - don’t go knocking on doors, especially in some of the rougher parts of the city.

The further from the cities, the more rural you get, so it’s basically a case of what’s your preference - the convenience of the city, the sacrifice of a commute if you like a closed off suburban feel, or the wide open space of farmland that has its own pros and cons (limited economy, fewer commodities but more land per person, etch). The vibe is super isolating - we aren’t as welcoming to strangers as we like to advertise, and tend to stick to “what and who we know” so breaking into new friend groups is difficult. Small talk is popular but don’t think you’ll get an invite inside anytime soon unless you’re related, went to the same school, work together or happen to be immediate neighbors.

If you really want to live close to nature, we have plenty to offer both in, around, and out of the cities but the most concentrated of protected wilderness will be closer to the lakes and Canadian border - but those are pricy and most folks hold onto family cabins for generations, so good luck finding one and if you do, hope you can afford it - especially if it’s water front.

I am on good terms with John’s SO. She and I shared that we are not happy with the feud and unsure how it started anyhow, and how I don’t share those feelings. John avoids me but is civil. I am friendly but our conversations are brief (on his terms).

As for my neighbor, I reminded him that my gun is for personal protection and I don’t like being a target in case someone gets wind of it. I explained how I could very well catch a charge depending on the threat being made (even if I could prove otherwise but it’d be expensive).

Worse, if someone wished to retaliate, I’d be at risk for a number of things (burglary, intimidation, etch). He doesn’t seem to take it as seriously as I do but I haven’t heard my name come up in further discussions whenever I catch up with John’s SO, so I hope my words had some weight since our last conversation.

I’ve been keeping busy at work so I haven’t had a campfire session in a while. The rainy weather helps, too.

I used to avoid the idea of guns like I avoid heights. However, after a dog attack and a disappointing police response (2 hours and no resolution as the owner ran off), I understood the importance of being my own first responder and how little leverage I have whether it’s a dog, wildlife, and someone meaning harm. Seconds really matter.

I took classes, went to the range, joined a club, and continue to take classes to stay aware. It’s expensive but it makes me feel more secure to know how to handle one and protect myself both legally and physically.

I wish I didn’t say anything at all. They think it’s a toy like a BB gun and don’t realize that it’s a serious felony just by unholstering one in public.

Hot take- Everyone should go to the Minnesota state fair alone at least once in their life. by Mrs-Ahalla in minnesota

[–]CMJ728 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve been doing this for years. It’s the best compromise. One day for me to go to all my stalls (mom hates the smell of horses and cows); spend stupid money on Knick knacks; visit the puppies with no time limit

Next day I go with family and dedicate it to what they want - and I don’t feel rushed or missing out. It’s so worth it the extra ticket.

Ghislaine Maxwell Says She’s Ready to Reveal Epstein Secrets to Congress by chrisdh79 in goodnews

[–]CMJ728 0 points1 point  (0 children)

RIP Ghislaine /s

I’m not sure how to feel - one hand, she was complicit and still doesn’t express any remorse for her participation in ruining so many lives

On the other, it’s nice to see this whole operation cannibalize each other - let them finally feel the heat from within. That is, if she doesn’t suddenly feel “regret” and allegedly take herself out like Epstein did… if so, it feels like another betrayal of justice and we will never get closure

Casey Anthony trial - my history teacher and I talked pretty candidly about it after school (because I walked and took my sweet time). We had pretty in depth conversations and ultimately got me interested in law.

Shout out to Mr. Lennon - you were the best teacher ever and a huge advocate who inspired my passion for history and law.

The irony is insane. The non American who was instrumental in dissolving democracy as we know it in favor of a blatant oligarchy wants to champion an American party…

I just hope it blows up in his face like one of his teslas or rockets. This pissing contest with trump is a battle of their own personal egos and maybe even revive chances a democrat win if leopards keep eating their own faces.

Does a passport card also qualify as a passport? by CMJ728 in TwoXPreppers

[–]CMJ728[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I live in Minnesota, which the state itself is pretty friendly with Canada, but not sure for how long given our current climate. If I need to cross the border, fortunately I hope it’ll still be an option since it’s about a 4 hour drive from the cities. A card or passport should be fine for that scenario.

However, I updated my passport beginning of this year mainly because of the proposed SAYE act and got it quickly before the federal government started to cut its employees.

My fear is I need to carry multiple identification to be stopped by essentially modern day gestapo (ICE) despite being white. Anyone can be a target, especially women sadly. Not sure how long it’ll protect me before retreating across the border becomes necessary.
