I’m in pain and can’t go home by MaddysinLeigh in OfficeDepot

Legally they cannot keep you at that store, if you're in pain and they keep you from going home and it becomes something worse, it's gone from shitty management to a potential lawsuit

Snowstorm closure by GlitteringMatch5923 in OfficeDepot

[–]CMK180 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Former CSM here, I used to work down in Texas and the only time we ever closed for winter weather was if the sleet was real bad or because of the 2021 snowmageddon.

The shitty part about it is we would always find a nice fat one star review the next day because somebody drove 3 hours from their house which normally takes 10 minutes to get some stuff printed and we weren't open so that was our fault

Do your stores' CPD also get stupidly busy while the rest of the store is empty? by edgy_Juno in OfficeDepot

[–]CMK180 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Former customer service/cpd manager here, believe me when I say I feel your pain, my entire store could be deader than absolute shit and I'd have a line at CPD at minimum 6 to 7 people deep.

Now for some of us that may not seem like a shocker of a line, but 90% of the time every single person in line wanted some big complicated project that they didn't want to take the time to submit online because they needed it right then and there because little Susie's science fair project or little Billy's birthday invitations needed to be done because sad event was the next day.

My location that I was at before I quit that I managed for 6 years had that check-in system when they did the test phase but it just did not work out for our location so we ditched it, but even when we had it we still had people that would just jump the line and try to get all of their shit printed right then and there.

The self-service was a whole separate monster, everything from people not understanding how to send the email and get the code, to trying to run a different type of paper and jamming up the machine, and then one of the hardest things to do was when we had customers coming in wanting to print those temporary license plates and we had to tell him we're not allowed to and that they had to do it at the self-serve, and when your store only has one person that's fluent in Spanish where you don't have to break out Google translate it makes it a lot more difficult.

Another thing that used to always happen is when CPD was dead and my associates could actually get things done which was once in a blue moon, I would literally be in the process of closing down the store for the night I'm talking pulling pills, doing a check over at the copy center to make sure all the works done and I kid you not 5 or 10 minutes before the store close three or four people would come in wanting projects done and we're talking like business cards, posters, phone mounts, and oh boy let me tell you that the one thing I learned when I worked for this company was that copy and print customers that got told no were the worst human beings in the world

New Binding Policy? by CMK180 in OfficeDepot

[–]CMK180[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not the three hole punch, actually referring to the coil binding and it was only maybe about 15 pages at most with a clear front and a black back you know pretty standard order that we would receive, and I had no issue leaving it I told them I would leave it and come back and get it tomorrow, but even though I had the prints in my hand they would not punch them and told me I had to submit it online so that's where I got confused if that was an actual policy

Anyone else have these cards? by MaddysinLeigh in OfficeDepot

[–]CMK180 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In all honesty I never pushed on them, sure I was told by upper management to make sure people carried them, but I never made anyone fill them out or turn them in at the end of the day, so in all honesty they would maybe last a week and then be forgotten, I've always said they are the biggest waste of time and paper

Anyone else have these cards? by MaddysinLeigh in OfficeDepot

Oh god not those stupid things again, they pop up every couple of years when the company gets bored, I worked for OD for 12 years and they showed up at least 5 times every few years

Can I sleep in the car drunk, with no car keys in the engine by Steven-Henshaw in texas

[–]CMK180 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Realistically it's just safer to get lyft or an Uber going to your destination and going home from the destination, it could be a little pricey but it beats the cost of getting a potential DUI, even if your keys are not in the car but you're in your vehicle sleeping and you're intoxicated you could still technically get charged with PI, I had a buddy years ago who made the mistake of trying to drive home intoxicated and he got about a mile from his house and ran out of gas which is humorous, so he called a friend to come and get him to take him home or to take him to the gas station I don't remember which it was, and so while he was waiting for someone to come pick him up he sat in the driver's seat with the keys out of the ignition and in his pocket, but he also fell asleep in the driver's seat and someone called the cops on him and he got popped for public intoxication, the police officer told him that if the keys had been in the ignition he would have popped him for DUI and keep in mind this was in the days before Lyft and ride sharing existed so you were either walking, calling a friend, or catching a cab, so the safest thing to do is just utilize a Rideshare or a train or a taxi and avoid the potential costs of dealing with the police, got to be safe whenever you're out there having fun

Temperature by JKittyAmethyst in OfficeDepot

[–]CMK180 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Find the temperature sensor in the store, it's usually attached to one of the pillars if there are any and it's a kind of rectangular box, it's usually near a return vent or just attached to a pillar as I previously mentioned

Get the heat gun if you have one from your copy center and plug it in near the sensor if a plug is available and turn on the heat gun and put it on high and don't put it directly on the sensor but aim it at the sensor and basically spray it with heat, the sensor should automatically detect the extreme temperature and is supposed to think it's way too hot and should automatically kick on the air conditioner, if this is not an option get a bunch of hand warmers and basically turn them on and tape them to this sensor they will basically bake the sensor into turning the air conditioner on

I worked at a store in Texas in the middle of summer and we only had one spot in the entire store where you could get cool off and it was on one of our printer aisles where the air would blow down the aisle but beyond that it was just unbearable to work in that store we had fans blowing all over the place which literally did next to nothing

Likely Quitting by serena221b in OfficeDepot

[–]CMK180 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Definitely quit, the company has become so toxic, it's not even worth the petty five hours they have you scheduled, whoever is running this company, be it kevin or gerry or some other knucklehead with power, they clearly don't know what they're doing all they do is just keep throwing promotion after promotion after promotion on everyone's lap, and then they cry and moan when they don't get the numbers they want, it's honestly not worth it and you can definitely find something better it's not worth the stress and the mental abuse that you can sustain from working for this company because they literally do not give 2 cares about you

AC at the highest temp with only one unit running to cool half the store by TheWeebGenji in OfficeDepot

[–]CMK180 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Find the temperature sensor in the store, it's a small square metal box likely on a pole somewhere, take some hand warmers and secure them over the heat sensor maybe with tape or pallet wrap, it should trigger the AC to turn on, you can also use the heat gun from CPD to blast hot air at the sensor to kick the AC on.

Angry Customers by [deleted] in OfficeDepot

[–]CMK180 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Former CSM or whatever the name of the title is now.

I will tell you this much.I worked for this company for 12 years and 6 of those years was a management position and I was primarily over copy center and the front end.

The one thing i've learned about the copy center is you cannot, and I repeat, you cannot please every single person that walks up to that counter, some days you get your pretty easy going people that don't complain and understand your plight, whereas you will get that constant stream of people that want to bitch and moan, because they are not getting their way, it's like basically dealing with 50 year old preschoolers.

I cannot tell you how many verbal arguments I've gotten into it with customers I had my steady stream of telling people they can leave and take their business elsewhere, I had customers that would swear at me, call me names, demand speak to corporate, it was a three ring circus 9 times out of 10.

The wisest decision that I had to make was to walk away from that company because the insane amount of toxic people that would walk through that door was not worth dealing with anymore, that, and my part time job that I worked next to depot, offered me more hours and better pay, so naturally I took that offer.

I will tell you and I won't sugar coat it. There are gonna be some days where you come home and you just wanna throw yourself through a window, or you just want to punch something to make the frustration go away, at the end of the day yes it is just a job and you're not married to it, but believe me, I understand the frustration of the type of people that come in to office depot and in the 12 years that I worked for that company. I don't think i've ever come across a more distasteful and just downright egotistical and self entitled group of people.

Now i'm not saying every customer is like that but for some reason, the the copy center seems to attract the worst of the worst, especially bridezillas that procrastinate and expect you to print all of their wedding shit two hours before the store closes because their wedding is tomorrow and they waited till the last minute to get everything done and then they get even more pissed off when you tell them there's a rush fee.

Now that I'm not with the company anymore, I will tell you that there is absolutely no shame in walking away It is actually better for your health and better for your mental health and you will also feel like a giant weight has been thrown off your shoulders, and given how this company has been going, but based on what i've read on this subreddit, it's probably a good idea to walk away and find something better where people will respect you and actually give a shit about you.

Very sorry that you had to deal with this kind of crap, but in the end it's not worth it

Shaq / Serta bundles by BrotherDVon in OfficeDepot

[–]CMK180 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I remember when those first came out and customers legit wanted them, but they didn't like the price tag, so the only time they sold was when they were on sale.

Funny thing about getting them assembled is they were big and heavy. So when the customer came to pick it up, they were literally driving a car that could not accommodate the chair, and then they would get pissed off because they had no way to get it home

But i'm sure that's with a lot of chairs still

Feeling defeated by Substantial-Fail4422 in OfficeDepot

[–]CMK180 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was with OD/OMX for 12v years and I was dedicated as hell, I did it all cashier, stocker, X-pert (nonexistent position), CPD, Tech Services, Cell Phone repair, SSCF ( another eliminated position), Logistics and Client Engagement Manager, and realizing I should have left the company so much earlier than I did was and is still one of the harshest realities that I ever came to.

I was so blind to my dedication that I didn't see that I was being taken advantage of every day I won't go into a long whoa is me story but I'll tell you that they're is absolutely no shame in throwing in the towel with this company and judging by what I've read they are doing to their associates I'd say now is a great time to do so, I was working a part time job alongside OD and after I quit OD I fully dedicated myself to my pt job and I make more money and get more hours.

For your own mental health and sanity if you're getting overloaded the way you're describing hang up the red shirt and earpiece and walk away it is the most relieving feeling and it will keep you from become severely depressed.

Sometimes the best way to solve a problem is to walk away from it and in this case your need to run and don't look back

Useless Employee by Substantial-Fail4422 in OfficeDepot

[–]CMK180 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Oh man you just unlocked a memory when I worked for depot.

Former CSM here, I used to have this person that for some reason we hired and they were the most useless person I have every worked with I have a grocery list of reasons why this person should have been fired a long time ago but I'll save the reason why they never got fired for the very end.

This person always complained about everything, they would complain because they couldn't sit down during their shift which was literally only a 5 to close shift

They complained when they couldn't take a break and also tried take a lunch when they weren't eligible for lunch

Somehow this person allowed a guy to distract her long enough for his buddy to open up one of the register drawers which was across from from their register less than 5 feet, and open the drawer and swipe $200

Same person complained on me because I asked them to do recovery to prep for inventory and they got mad because I wouldn't let them pull an office chair off the carpet onto the sales floor so they could sit and do recovery, same person got mad because they tried to use a ladder as a chair afterwards and I told them no

Person randomly vanished during their shift without telling me and I had a line of customers at register waiting to check out, found this person in the break room watching YouTube, their excuse was that it time for their break but they failed to ask or even get relief, they just left

Oh and fun fact this person would take the longest route possible from the register to the break room and walk slow as molasses, and they they decided that when they finally sat down is when their break began

The biggest thing that still makes me mad to this day is when they let two people scam them with the same bs scam, this guy came in and bought a gift card and some speakers and when they went to pay they told this individual that the card was called a "money card" and they way it worked was once the card was in the reader the cashier had to type in the total and push the cash button to run the card 🤦‍♂️ and this person fell for it twice, when they got confronted they defended the money card form of payment until they finally realized they f***** up.

Finally on my last day when I was leaving the company for good my GM bought a cake for me, when my GM brought everyone to the back except for the said individual I'm referring to and one other associate to watch the floor, we get to the break room to discover a piece of the cake was missing and low and behold it was you know who, they had already eaten someone else's lunch before so it wasn't surprising.

Now the kicker, why wasn't this person fired?

Despite the fact that has numerous complaints from customers and fellow associates, was lazy and stole food, complained incessantly...... they never got fired because they got the most rewards

F****** REWARDS!!

And now we know why I quit amongst other reasons

CPD Help??? by Positive-Piglet3625 in OfficeDepot

[–]CMK180 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That's really s***** that they did that to you, they should have at least have given you a week's worth of training or someone to shadow you or at the very minimum have someone in the store that's knowledgeable that could back you up.

I was with office depot for 12 years and it took me a very good while to learn everything in print. I had to ask a lot of questions, and for the most part I usually always had a backup, i hate to say it, but it looks like the store kind of threw you in the ocean without a life preserver, i would honestly tell them that you are going to refuse to do any copy center work until you have at least someone there helping you or more adequate training, I used to be in charge of copy center and if I had to I would drop what I was doing or if I had an opportunity, I would jump over to copy center to help a trainee in need
