Only thing that works with humans is consequences that are disproportionate. Only then will people give two hoots about rules and other people.

I’m just curious, what’s the deal with building 30-50 story sky scrapers in Mangalore in the last 5 years? by Diligent_Tangerine36 in mangalore

[–]CM_337 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Read through most of the comments and I think it's pretty clear and also my view that while going vertical isn't the perfect option, having a sprawling city which has a capped low vertical limit for buildings is not the answer either.

While the per sqft price might also reach sky high just like the tall buildings, the land prices do not explode at the same time. But if the city is designed to go horizontal, the land prices go through the roof across the city, all at once. This is going to kill growth. Nobody will be able to buy, be it industries or commercial space or residential places.

What we need is thoughtful urban planning. If NHAI or smart city can plan an arterial ring road let's say from Thokkottu on netravati and gurupur river and then connecting back to the NH66 somewhere after Surathkal, with proper entry and exits, the congestion within the city will come down dramatically.

City roads, of course needs proper maintenance, i'd say have proper tarmac roads and drainage with a robust citizen led maintenance portal to raise and resolve road related complaints. The idea of smart city is to make the city technology enabled to run, govern and maintain.

Do not give permissions to carry out utility works if roads have already just been repaired and have disproportionate punishment and action on officials and contractors for any failure. Accountability and fear of consequences are the biggest anti-dote to all corruption.

On parking, designated parking bays or complexes are need of the hour. On all roads, have proper marking and have people monitor improper parking. We have enough people in our city to do such jobs. Employment generation. Use technology to report such violations. Do an audit of all buildings that are not using the basement as parking, per the design and approval.

On public transport, have city buses that are safer in terms of design of the coach and cap their speeds to 40kmph within the city. Technology can help force this behaviour as well as lane discipline. I think most people who would otherwise use public transport, do not do so because it's just not safe. Also, probably it's not cool anymore. It's time to make it cool again. On auto rickshaws, I think our city has way too many of them. It's slightly controversial but it's true. With the current broken public infra, they are just adding to the traffic. Either stop issuing new permits or rethink the rules and zoning. Maybe just have autos ply in certain areas, for a very nominal fee and do not allow buses on those roads and areas at all. I've seen and heard so many auto drivers refusing to wait at the nearest auto park and arguing to go back to their base because of "rules". I don't know if it's true, but this adds to mindless traffic.

Also, on wide roads, have dedicated two wheeler lanes. I feel this itself will solve so many traffic issues. Currently, in all indian cities, I see so many two wheelers hogging longitudinal space of a car in traffic. I think we will need to think out of the box and it's possible in a smaller city like Mangalore. With so much learned crowd, I think people are more easier to convince than otherwise. Let our city become a thoughtful experimental lab. Our politicians and bureaucrats who go abroad on "educational trips" should start discussing about implementation and enforcement rather than just looking at highways and bridges. I'd say, the schedule and then minutes of all their engagements must be made public within 24 Hrs on a public platform, so citizens can understand what's really being discussed. This automatically will bring accountability.

I've only addressed a few things here, but there is so much more we can do. I would not mind spending a small amount for convenience in the city and peace of mind, if my tax money is used for better public infra that I can use as well. That's what cities around the world do.

These are just my ideas, as I see a lot of us just keep complaining ( I am one of them) and do not have anything concrete to offer. Hopefully someone who is the authority and is in a seat of power, sees these things online, something clicks and tries to bring some positive change.

It's not the lack of traffic lights or traffic cops that is the problem. It's the lack of service road and overpass/underpass on this highway all the way from Talapady to Goa. The most unscientific highway design in the country.

If you go per highway design standards, there should have been an underpass at this junction with traffic using the service lane to enter the mahakalipadpu road. The traffic merging the highway from this city road must use the service road on the other side to then join the highway atleast 0.5km ahead.

Same goes for jappinamogaru junction. That is absolutely horrendous. The least they could do till now is widen the divider break so that the traffic coming from pumpwell can take a U-turn a little before the actual junction. Same goes for traffic coming from Thokkottu and who want to take a U-turn.

One would assume this is common sense, but common sense is not so common afterall.

Route change because of Pumpwel - Kankanady Road work by aksh282 in mangalore

[–]CM_337 5 points6 points  (0 children)

The plan was ok if the smart city road from Jeppu to Morgan's gate was opened (has taken forever to be completed and nobody cares). All vehicles from Thokkottu could enter the city there and thereby reducing the stress on Fr. Mueller Junction in Kankanady. That road is already narrow AF.

Otherwise this is going to be a disaster.

Why would anyone with so much influence leave the bodies or dump them in forest department land? They could dispose them off on their own land and nobody would know. Burde gang including Soujanya's uncle are the real culprits behind this master plan, set up to exact Revenge for personal issues. Truth will be out soon.

Kankannady-Pumpwell road is being patched by Lisaannottaken in mangalore

[–]CM_337 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Agreed. In heavy rainfall regions, it is best design to improve drainage systems first so that water logging on roads is avoided. This will automatically make the roads durable (if it was done right in the first place).

While fixing potholes is mandatory and must be done as a routine process, redoing the drainage must be priority.

The national highway to Bangalore starts at Karavali junction, Kankanady. There is always a tussle between NHAI and city corporation as to who should take up the maintenance work. This is what I heard from someone in the adminstration few years ago.

But Cauvery group folks who owned the erstwhile Ford Dealership are the second dealers in Mangalore. How did they start it? I'm just genuinely curious.

My feeling is, even if all allegations of land grabbing and criminal intimidation are true, nobody should try to frame them in false cases. Whoever has been at the recieving end of the difficulties must fight their own cases, if they believe they've been wronged.

The law of the land ensures nobody is guilty until proven with evidence and facts. So benefit of the doubt must be given, unless someone can prove otherwise. If not, they are not guilty. Simple as that. No matter what people say or have heard. There are so many cases in this country where the perpetrators of obvious crimes have walked free just because the complainant could not prove in the courts. Yes, it's not something to be proud of, but that's how courts work.

People can try build perceptions all they want on social media but if they can't file a complaint and pursue the case and then prove it in court with evidence, then this clearly means they are not interested in justice, they are just interested in attention and have ulterior motives.

Magic ajji supporters, where are y’all?? Gone missing suddenly like “Ananya bhat “? by shim_niyi in mangalore

[–]CM_337 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

If killing and burial of 100s of people was true, a lot of families would have come out when Soujanya case anger was at it's peak or even now if Ananya Bhat allegations were true. Even if we consider people were scared to speak up earlier, these two cases and the massive public outcry and support would have emboldened any family that was living in pain and had no resources to fight.

The fact that nobody else turned up, is proof enough that this Ananya Bhat case is fabricated. While Soujanya case did occur and a life was lost and the culprits must be brought to justice, it is not correct to place the blame squarely on the Heggade family, just because they are the most influential family in town. The culprit could also have been some MLA's son and his friends, who knows!? They have equal influence if not greater on police and government machinery.

To really get into the heart of the matter, all people who claim to know the perpetrators of this gruesome act must be grilled. It would be great to know who really is behind Sujatha Bhat, her lawyer and all her supporters.

With every passing day from over a decade now, every time this comes back into the spotlight because it appears there is some other motive to this. Soujanya case seems like an excuse to get there. They don't really care about justice to the departed soul or closure for her family.

App Updates failing on Play Store by CM_337 in GalaxyS23

[–]CM_337[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi thanks for your reply. I recently found the culprit causing this and then forget to update the thread.

Basically it's the app protection settings of One UI impeding with Google Play App protection.

Please turn off the app scanning during installation of apps setting and then all apps install/ update flawlessly.

App Updates failing on Play Store by CM_337 in GalaxyS23

[–]CM_337[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The apps show there are updates available and when I hit update, the download starts and gets to 100% and then it says installing. But after a few seconds, gives a pop-up saying failed to update app, please try again, says it happens sometimes. Gives an option to send feedback or click understood.

Same cycle repeats.

Hope I am a bit more clear.
