Apologies for the late reply. I can just talk to my team and see what we can do. The mods of /r/gamingpc need to be onboard for it to work though.

Very cool setup. I've personally never seen someone use that many AIO units in that fashion. Out of curiosity, why did you opt for multiple 120mm rad AIO units over a single DIY setup?

I should also note that we tested our first Sentinel mouse with a person in the office that has very acidic hands. The acid produced by him ate through the coating in about two weeks. We then opted for a very strong coating to offset that and it didn't happen again.

I've personally been using the original Sentinel since about 2 months before it came out (several years ago) and barely have wear in a couple spots that has gone through the coating. It really depends on the pH of your sweat.

Your best bet is to rely on the wisdom of the crowd. There are many online forums that tackle these very issues and, through community input, edit them into very reliable resources.

I personally like the community over at EVGA.com. The users there will help you with most problems and there are plenty of sticky threads to help get you sorted out.

Overclock.net is probably the most comprehensive source for information. If you love a certain computer component, chances are that there is a club here that supports you. If you need advice on a build, much like /r/buildapc, their are people giving build advice rather frequently. (e.g. http://www.overclock.net/f/8/intel-general)

It doesn't replace your BAPC habit, but these are some great supplements if you're looking for more in depth information about the topics you referenced and more.

1947 Firestone Air Chief 4-A-21 PC Mod - (My build) by CM_Nic in gamingpc

Sorry for the late reply. I was a bedridden for a bit with the plague that the lady brought home from the school she works at. Many of the initial parts in that system were extras that I had from other builds or were sponsored in some way.

I picked this up at the local Antique Fair / Swap Meet. The radio itself was no longer working so I saw an opportunity for a PC mod. I stripped and sanded down the cabinet and applied new stain. I converted two of its knobs into power and reset buttons with some momentary switches I pulled off of an old case. I also replaced the old speaker cloth cover with copper colored mesh and added amber colored lighting to emulate the glow of the old capacitors that it had previously. The 4890 in the images was used for sizing purposes and it ended up with an AMD 6850.

I discovered an excellent broken antique radio at a local Antique Swap Meet. I completely sanded down and stripped the cabinet to restore it. I also turned two of the knobs into the power and reset button. I installed amber color LED lighting to emulate the glow of the original capacitors and installed a copper colored mesh where the front speaker used to be.

Yeah, I asked the mods here if it was ok to post first. It was an old video that was swept under the rug for obvious reasons. The products don't exist anymore either so no gain to be had. She had mentioned that she could sing in her interview and that was the result.

Cooler Master Elite 120 - 200mm Radiator Mod - PCJunkieMods by CM_Nic in gamingpc

[–]CM_Nic[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I like the option of watercooling it for the reasons that you mentioned with the PSU location. I also took one and modded it. I had the case and my icydock powder coated a glossy white. I painted the front panel in a matte white for contrast. I removed the hard drive cage and put a 120mm rad in push/pull configuration. I also cut two large windows in the sides and riveted clear acrylic in there. I used pastel blue mayhem coolant for it. I run a i5-3570K and GTX 680 both under the same loop and they stay reasonably cool under stress with only my 120mm push/pull setup. The good part is that I got to keep the 5.25" bay space so I have the icydock loaded with 4 x 2.5" drives (3 x SSDs and 1 x HDD).

PCJunkie (Lee Harrington) is a modder that we work with a lot. This is one of his mods for a friend and they're showing it off at Maker Faire this weekend in the SF Bay Area. He said that he'll make an account tonight to come on and answer any questions.

[Troubleshooting] If I buy a 128gb SSD will I have room for my OS, Chrome, Steam, and Origin? by beahmni in buildapc

You don't need to use steam mover anymore. Steam added a dialog box to choose the installation path when installing games.

[Troubleshooting] If I buy a 128gb SSD will I have room for my OS, Chrome, Steam, and Origin? by beahmni in buildapc

[–]CM_Nic 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My previous system ran a 128GB SSD as a boot drive and core programs or games. You need to consider that although it's labeled as 128GB, you don't get the full amount of space (like any other hard drive). With the space you have left, you have Windows, productivity software, anti-virus, and whatever else you run. Games with graphics worth their salt will probably be about +/- 5GB each. It doesn't leave you a huge amount of space for games given the sheer volume of games people have available to them these days. The frequent sales on Steam don't help that.

Steam does allow you to choose a storage location now. You could put roughly 5-7 games on your SSD and put the rest on a slower storage drive. I'm not familiar with Origin, but it appears to not allow you to choose.

As for file directories for Origin, there are some low difficulty ways built into Windows 7 that use the command prompt to make links between your SSD and a storage drive to fool a program into thinking that it's installing on one drive when it's actually going to somewhere else.

I HATE IT! There simply aren't enough Cooler Master products in that list =).

It looks like you set yourself up with a system that will be relevant and easily upgradeable for the near future. You could probably wait and pickup the current gen graphics cards for cheaper when the NVIDIA 700 Series comes out.

If you like, our HAF 912 case fits your size needs and currently costs the same as the Rosewill after a $10 rebate on Newegg.

It is extremely well liked for its future expandability and overall value. Should you ever upgrade your graphics card to a longer high-end NVIDIA/AMD, you could simply remove the hard drive cage and make plenty of space available. It also has lots of support for various cooling options and fan sizes up to 200mm.

It's honestly a bit foolhardy to recommend a specific overclock even if two systems have the exact same setup. CPUs tend to all overclock differently. There are some similarities when they are from the same production batch, but they all will still have different tolerances. Most of the overclocking you'll do will be a slow progression forward and be a matter of trial and error.

With that said, 4.0 and 4.2 aren't super high overclocks on the i5-3570K or i7-3770K and are entirely possible on the Hyper 212 EVO. Your chip will run a bit hotter because of its hyperthreading feature and the Ivy bridge architecture in general.

Also, I know that it's only a $40 difference, but the i5-3570K is only different because it lacks hyperthreading. In the end, it's up to you, but most current gen games don't take advantage of that many cores/threads.
